I installed the Security Update on one of my imaged machines. I'll see if Apple releases another version of this update before pushing it to other Macs.

i have an iBook G4 and this update hosed up my airport or something. after my restart it won't automatically find the wireless networks and when i connect to a network, nothing happens. this happened a while ago and i had the wrong network password, but that's been fixed since then. when i try to open up internet connect, i have to force quit it b/c it freezes. any suggestions?

the same thing happens to me... before the install... i just redo the internet link put in WEP pw or whatever defunct system the modem uses, and away I go!

Restart Required 😱 🙁 No Thanks. I'll wait 'til I have a break I can afford to reboot in. I wish Safari had a memory for all the windows and tabs that are open so you could restart it from where you left it last. Is that in Leopard's Safari anyone know?

A plugin for Safari called SafariStand that already does it. 🙂

Installed, rebooted, no sweat, no strain on two different machines. (iMac G4 & G5).

Might I suggest restarting the machine, then installing the update, and then restart again. I had both of mine update shortly after very recent reboots. Like I said, absolutely problem-free; no permissions issues, Keychain, Spotlight, nuttin'...

Same here on both an iMac and a MacBook. It took a while on the restart after the install, but that's it. Both are working fine.

Strange Reboot

My 15" MBP stalled on the apple boot up screen, then it restarted again, then the login screen popped up, it was kind of strange. Don't get discouraged if it takes a while to reboot.

As long as humans are involved with writing code, no system will ever be completely secure. It's not a black-or-white situation - it's all about shades of gray. OS X is quite secure by default... it's just not perfect.

Not to mention that some of the security fixes are not Mac-centric. The Kerberos vulnerability, for one - any OS that uses MIT's Kerberos implementation will have that vulnerability. This would also be the case, for example, with bugs in Samba or the CUPS printing system (I'm not saying there are currently bugs in those sub-systems; just using them for examples of OS X components that are used in other operating systems as well).

Because there are always things people miss, so software is insecure, it's made by humans so is inperfect, though it seems Apple does a good job of fixing issues before they get exploited which makes it more secure.

After restarting my MacBook after installation, I seemed to hang on the Apple start screen for quite a while. My laptop restarted once again, and then went straight to the login screen.

Very odd. All seems fine now though.

not the only one man i really wonder why it does that😕

I had that hang up too, where the restart took forever. Does anyone know what causes this?

anyway no need to brag, but my windows PC has been up for about two months, and my mac has been shut down, about twice... Then again I never use the pc, and my mac is a notebook. 😛

Not An Unusual Sequence On Reboot

Since you're new here, you may not know thie kind of restart after applying some updates is not unusual. 🙂 Always need patience when you apply any updates that require a reboot. 🙂

All Went well here!

No problems here on Intel Core Duo. Took several minutes. After restart, install began and about another 1.5 minutes sytem rebooted by itself and poof here we are.

Honestly, you will "likely" have some updating to do, but it will be painless.

Aperture 1.5.3 addresses issues related to overall reliability and performance in a number of areas, including:

Generation of thumbnails for adjusted images
Entering and exiting Full Screen mode
Working with large sets of keywords in the Keywords HUD
Restoring from a vault

Among the specific issues that have been addressed:

Previews now update properly when images are sent to an external editor.
Leaf Aptus 22 and Aptus 75 images are now imported with the correct orientation.
When folders are imported as projects, the folder structure is now correctly preserved when identically named subfolders are included in the hierarchy.
Reconnecting referenced images that have been externally edited now works more reliably.
Setting the ColorSync profile in the Aperture Print dialog now correctly suppresses color management settings in the Mac OS X Print dialog.

You're kidding, right?
One of the reasons the OS is (and stays) secure is because Apple is constantly updating it.

You'll never, ever, EVER be 100% secure without ever taking your normal precautions.

No OS is 100% secure. 100%? No.

Depends on how many mbp's they have with the 10.4.6 version already.
You'd figure they'd update it all the way to 10.4.9; they've been doing it since they released Tiger, but I don't know how long it'd take.
