Trying to install the beta on my 2020 iMac (i9, 5700). Reboots to an Apple logo with no progress bar. Seems to be stalled there as it hasn't changed in over an hour. Tried rebooting earlier and it did the same thing. I am able to boot back in to Catalina by holding the option key and selecting Macintosh HD.

I've already installed the new beta still Messages app fail to open. Crashed immediately. Any ideas?
Working fine for me; always has.

Do you have the iCloud sync option turned on? If you do, and you're feeling brave: log out of iMessage (Sign Out), then quit the Messages app, rename ~/Library/Messages to e.g. MessagesOLD, reboot, then open Messages. It should open and ask you to log back in. Make sure "Enable Messages in iCloud" gets re-enabled.

1Password is broken in Safari now. Hoping an update to 1Password fixes it soon. Other extensions such as ad blockers are working fine.

SMB shares are borked. Not even my windows VM can connect to them.
Use the following to repair file sharing not working:

  1. Open the Terminal app, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  2. Type sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC and press Return.
  3. Enter your administrator password and press Return.
  4. Quit the Terminal app.
I had the same issue and now file sharing works again. I am on Public Beta 2..

That doesn't work. Clearly it's a new bug and I'm willing to bet it will fail in PB3 of Big Sur.

Currently trying to install Beta 6 on my 2020 iMac. Download and install started. Currently on reboot and sitting at the apple logo that this moment. Anyone having luck?

Edit:
Not sure to restart or let it be and hope it figures itself out...

Updating to macOS Big Sur 11 beta from previous versions of macOS might take significantly longer than expected. Data loss could occur if the update is interrupted.

Doesnt work on the 2020 imac. Its listed on their dev notes.

When starting the update, mine froze for about 10 minutes, never moved past the original spot of starting. Rebooted and downloaded and is updating now. On 2020 MacBook Air. Had problems getting it started a couple betas ago, and had to go to terminal to get it started.

iMac 2020 supported in this beta?

Edit:

  • macOS Big Sur 11 beta 7 is now supported for iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020). (67093251)

Wonder why it says beta 7?

Be warned. This beta once installed does not recognize any internal or external RAID systems you may have. Leaves me in a bit of a fix since most of my work is stored on an external RAID on one system and an internal on another.

Sounds like it's not going to work on 2020 iMacs. Even though it's supposed to.
What you are experiencing is exactly what happened previously, when anyone tried to install it on a new iMac.

Here are the commands to force fetch the latest beta

sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Seeding.framework/Versions/A/Resources/seedutil unenroll

then

sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Seeding.framework/Versions/A/Resources/seedutil enroll DeveloperSeed

It’s crashes immediately, no chanche to sign out.

Not sure which beta this was enabled in, but you can *finally* move the active phonecall notification wherever you want!

Hopefully this isn't just a bug, though.
