So you are saying battery case from Amazon will make you phone unable to make call? Is that what you saying?

He's not saying that at all.

However, any battery case that obstructs the iPhone's antennas will result in diminished signal reception and transmission. And possibly resulting in greater power dissipation (along with battery capacity reduction).

When they had the 6/6S battery case, I thought it almost doubled usable life.

With the 7/8 battery case, I though it more than doubled usable life.

Now with the XS case, despite its bump being way bigger than the XS battery, Apple is only claiming a 65%-80% increase in usable life.

Since the XS battery case has a bump bigger than the XS battery, shouldn't their Talk/Internet/Video claims be more than something like 40/24/28?

I stick by my initial BWAHAHA after 1369mah reported by 9to5, that is useless. Not even close to a full charge; maybe half a charge or less depending on which device.

At least the Mophie mentioned by others for just under that price is 2000mah.

The iPhone 7 battery case even had a more sizeable 2365 mAH battery for $99.

Complete waste of $129. Less for more money, the new Apple.

Yeah but wait to see what the Mophie actually delivers. Given it wirelessly charges the phone there will be an efficiency loss.

Who cares about wireless gimmicks. It's a backup battery first and foremost, and 1369mah for $129 is dog turd; not even a half charge.

$30 more expensive than the old battery case model with a 1000mah smaller cell is a ripoff, period, no matter what else it has.

Ugh. I just saw the battery capacity info. That is pretty weak.

I expected at least 3000 mAh.

I'd rather have more capacity than wireless charging.

ONLY 1369 mAh isn't bad, but for a $129 Apple case, I expected more (since their previous cases had bigger batteries).

What are the other Battery Case options for the XS?

Yuck. These are just as ugly as last year. I'll stick with my dbrand skin for the back of my Xs.

(I'm not a fan of bulky/ugly cases, so I'm a bit biased)

And the SoC and power management IC in the XS are much, much more efficient than what's find in the 6s/7 phones.

"This is significantly less than the 2365 mAH battery found in the iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case. The XS Max case features the same 1369 mAH capacity …"

Almost half the capacity for the 'max' sized model as the previous regular, no SoC efficiencies will make up for that difference

That must have been a dilemma. There is a push/shift toward wireless charging, so you need space to include the coil and components. There is also the need to have a large battery to make it all worth it, but you can’t go high on the back or you’d block signal. And finally, you can’t make the whole thing too big to the point nobody would want it. All of that had to be factored in, so they had to settle on a smaller battery that would still make the project worth it.

Or I could be totally wrong. What do I know? I’m an accountant.

I think you have it right.

Product development always entails dealing with engineering tradeoffs. And...making decisions as to the consequences you're willing to accept for the features that you need to have.

Specs on paper.

Apple lists the extended runtimes to be:

Talk time up to 33 hours*

Internet use up to 21 hours*

Video playback up to 25 hours*

Plenty of runtime.

Also, looking at how the XS Smart Battery Case is designed, it appears that Apple got rid of the hideous "chin" from the 6s/7 Smart Battery Case. They could have moved it up to just under the battery hump to minimize the size of the case. I'll take a bit of a hit in battery size to make the entire case not substantially larger vertically than the phone.

Half just seems like a steep cut to me, ymmv

Rather than carrying this monster all day - I'll sit around 20 minutes with a $12 charging brick
But I have to admit being a donglemania-victim...

Man you can get one whopper of a battery for £129. Or two. Or even get a small one and charge it off a bigger one. How is giving Apple your money even slightly compelling?

Will you be able to post any pics of the XS Smart Battery Case on the X?

Images of Apple Smart Case on iPhone X. The area around the camera looks worse in this picture. In regular light it isn't that noticeable.

I would love to pay $130 for one! In Canada it’s $180!!!!

If I buy anything in Canada for CA $180, it only costs me $132.33 USD currently. Therefore, aside from the weaker Canadian dollar, you're only paying approx. $3.33 USD more than we do in the US -- and that's presumably due either to taxes, or fluctuating exchange rate. That's not bad.
