It's crazy how some people are saying "They did not have this issue" and "some did".

Apple charges over $1,599 for this monitor without taxes. You bring it home and hope there are no issues with it. Not fair! It's like winning a lottery.

And I would bring it home to find I already have a camera better than the one built in.

I had the sad occasion of having to putz around an Apple store for almost 2 hours yesterday (getting another phone battery fix) ...

I find the ID of the monitor pretty good, but at this price point I just think they need to be doing more still.

Height adjustable and rotatable and easily switchable to VESA mounting... should be built in to all models -- that's honestly table stakes anymore.

And, yes I know it's 5k and that presents perhaps challenges... but as someone who's been living and loving the high refresh rate lifestyle on macOS with my M32U ... I just can't go back. The smoothness isn't there and it degrades the experience, especially as a "downgrade" when you're used to better on that front.

I hope they are working to get ProMotion everywhere and in all their products sooner rather than later. I worry they are going to drag that out for a LONG time though -- to milk it as an upgrade bullet point.

But Apple is going to offer a continuity camera holder soon. That does solve the weak camera problem. Everything is broken down into pieces and it's all separated.

Would have joined you guys if it was at Apple Park. That visitor center is too crowded.

just had a thought, which is prob. previous obvious now to most but:

IN NO WAY is apple capable of shipping an imac 27" now.

Call it supply shortages. Call it apple behind the display game yet again.

But can you imagine the issues stated for the Apple Studio display if it were included up to an imac pro?

Yikes.

So much blind hate for this product. I’ve had mine since day 1 and it’s been exactly what I’ve wanted for years.

It looks amazing, I’ve had no audio issues (though glad there’s new firmware), and the webcam now looks as good as any other built in webcam Apple ships.

The only other 5K display on the market is ugly to look at, is 6 years old, and still costs $1,299. 4K is not the same as 5K. PPI is glorious. $1,599 is expensive but the display is a luxury item and I’m happy to have it.

The capping and high amount of copium in this post is real

This product has a lot to hate. Aside from the absurd price...well...we got the elephant in the room: That cable

Yes, and it involves your phone, making it unusable for tertis during work calls...

Have had my Studio Display for over a month now. Just a few days ago the speakers started going goofy, cutting out after a few seconds of playing. You have been lucky if you haven't had this problem. Hope this software update fixes things. Good Luck
I've had my SD for around 10 days now. It could be I already have the update. Will check when I get back home.

IMO, the speakers sound surprisingly good, especially for a computer display.

I guess this wouldn't be worthy of a post on the LG forum then...
Not sure what you're getting at. I was replying to someone who was acting like this is weird.

I like the ASD.

Keep up man, I was called an Apple shill in another Apple Studio Display thread a few mins ago actually.

Sadly, that's the way it is here regarding most things Apple.

I've had mine for a little more than a week and am super impressed with display quality. As a photographer, that's important.

Fair enough, each to their own..

Using the Studio display at 60hz after using the ProMotion MBP display is pretty awful though.. i think they really needed ProMotion on the Studio
I just bought the MacBook Pro and haven’t even noticed the magic that is 120hz. When switching between my old iMac and this new MacBook Pro, I really don’t see what the big deal is.

I don't think the issues would be there. iMac was Steve Jobs's baby. Pretty sure there was only one assigned team that worked on the iMac's. With the Mac OS Studio and Studio Display, I have a feeling there are two different hardware teams working thus that is why there is a lack of improvement. I don't even think they are on the same page. Of course, I could be wrong, just my thought.

The moment when apple doesn’t put their A chip or M chip on every single of their product that does not fundamentally demand computation power is when we can expect some decent quality from apple. Make the best monitor, not a monitor that can do everything but nothing particularly well.

I welcome the firmware update for bug fixes. But this update should’ve never existed. What if software support ended? Throw the display away? No answer just yet but I don’t have much hope.

A ton of people complaining about a monitor they don’t own (and were never in the market for anyway).

Bought mine day one, it’s exactly what I wanted it to be. A modern replacement for the Thunderbolt Display that has a camera, speakers and mic built in. I use it 8+ hours a day for work. Haven’t had one single issue.

The camera was a bit blown out before the first firmware update, but not nearly as bad as reviewers were claiming. After the first firmware update the camera quality improved and is on par with the rest of Apples devices.

I have no buyers remorse because it’s a fantastic display for people who wanted a replacement Thunderbolt Display that worked like the old Thunderbolt Display. If it’s not for you, cool, go somewhere else and buy something else.

Typing this while using a Studio Display and have had no issues with the monitor. Really enjoying it.

Oh okay,
I find it night and day. As long as you dont notice it, it’s all good :)
