Mine has always said the 7th. I ordered the second the UK store was back up, so I am probably in the first batch and you are in the second batch. That's all.

Mine has always mentioned the 7th as the shipping date - no mention beforehand of a delivery date though which was todays update.

I ordered mine about 5 mins after the store came up - 6.59GMT and the Keynote must have finished about 6.45pm with the stores uptime a little delayed.

Spooky. Mine is listed as 6:59GMT as well! Either we ordered at the same time or they have batched all the orders together...

I remember looking at my watch and the computers clock at work - was actually 6.59pm so I guess we were clicking in unison :D

This mentioning of ship dates of February 7th has me a little confused. My order shows the order time of 11:05am PT (7:05pm GMT), only 6 minutes after the above couple mentions, but my estimated ship date has always been Feb 15. Could they have really sold THAT many MacBook Pros in 6 minutes to push my ship date back? I thought I was pretty quick, since a co-worker and I were alternately refreshing the store to see when it opened and immediately lept in (lag held us back, of course).

Are they just shipping to the UK sooner than the US? What's the deal?

It might depend on if you changed any BTO options.

That's possible I suppose... I upgraded to the 100GB 7200rpm hard drive instead of the 5400rpm. I don't understand why they would let that add an extra week to my shipping date though...

Hahah... don't you just hate that when that happens? I can't wait to get a Macbook Pro.... I'm going to wait a while and get the best of the best for it. How long do you think these laptops will stay top of the line?

That's a very good question. I would hope that with the frequency of upgrades Intel are doing at the moment, and Intel assistance in motherboard design, we may see a more frequent upgrade track for Apple. At the moment it is a challenge to buy a Mac at the right "sweet spot" where you get the best technology for a good price.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a bump by the WWDC, though perhaps they'll release a bigger and smaller MacBook Pro first and leave the 15" for later. But who knows!?

The MacBook Pro is what finally pulled me over to buy a Mac. I've always been a PC user, but ever since OSX, I've wanted a Mac... the latest operating system is beautiful and just lets you work easily without a lot of hiccups. I kept putting off getting one and began saving a bit for when I finally made the decision... then they announced a while back that they were going to Intel chips, so that made up my mind- I was going to get an Intel PowerBook, and the MacBook Pro is exactly what I was waiting for.
My hope is that it will last me a decent amount of time before it's completely obsolete and I won't have the same issues with PCs where upgrades are constantly an issue. I don't know though... after I put another gig of ram in it, it'll be a nice little powerhouse.

But looking at my situation more, I see that robbieduncan (in the UK) opted for the 120GB hard drive instead of the default 100GB... yet the ship date is still Feb 7.... it's still not making sense to me why I'm being held back.

Apple probably expected most people to not change the HD, then they probably anticipated people upgrading for more space, which leaves 100GB 7200 RPM drives last. I don't know, it's just my guess :)

I opted for the 7200rpm drive and mine is still the 7th.

I think the shipping times are generally longer in the UK so chances are we'll all end up getting them at the same time.

I opted for the 120Gb drive (5400rpm) and I'm the 7th. So the whole BTO takes longer is simply not true.

My take on it is that there are a very small number shipping on the 7th with normal service (i.e. lots) shipping on the 15th.

My UK order was updated overnight, 1.67 BTO with the 100 gig 7200 rpm drive.

It now says shipped by the 7th, Delivered by the 14th.

(Ordered 7pm after Macworld)

Edit: Oops, just like others then =) i can't wait.. its like torture.

Because Apple have decided to stop shipping to Jersey I have had to order it through a local store who again deals with a 3rd party distributor... I am going to have to wait a LOT longer than you guys :(.

My only comfort is that the store is often busy and it only sells Apple hardware :).

Same here!

Is there anyone in the States that has a shipping date of the 7?

Im in Chicago, and im starting to think that maybe I dont have a ship date because they havent received my cashiers check yet

I have not read the last 6 pages or so, but are we saying that the UK shipping dates are before the US?

Seems like it. It might be because of transit time. When they switched to the aluminum PowerBook, a lot of UK orders got held up in customs as well. Maybe they're trying to avoid that this time?

But you realise that hardware wise, Mac and PC are now essentially the same. So the availability of upgraded hardware will be the same for both.

How often will Apple update their hardware? Who knows - but then they can't really afford to fall behind the PC specs, because there aren't any smoke and mirror tricks they can pull (unlike when comparing different architectures).

You'll be out dated in 3 months when the newer MacBook Pro's come out with 2.0 Core Duo & probably 2.3Ghz .. probably with an updated exterior styling and probably with a few more revised features.

Jonathan Ive has a tendency to improve on his past work. The desktop range is generally controversial and goes through the 'what an ugly piece of S**t', 'It's not that bad', 'Oh, my God it's perfect', cylcle before it is accepted. The laptops on the other hand are generally fantastic improvements.

Having said that I am not sure that the MBP will case a case re-design in the short term. I think the iMac G4 to G5 needed it to stay fresh. The laptop does not and if Apple have lots of great new stuff in the pipeline then Mr Ive is a busy man that doesn't have time to tweak a piece of kit that still turns nearly every head that has never seen it before.

I just put my order in for the iMac 2.0GHz w/256mb video - After weighing the pros/cons I decided to get the iMac; you get so much more for your money (and better performance).:)
