So you want a graphics tablet, but Apple haven't produced one. Is that a reason to criticise a device that is designed as a track pad and will do the job just fine for those who want it?

All he said was, "pass". You call that critical?

I've been waiting for this every since the magic mouse came out!!! Yay!

Same here. This is what sold me though:

It's actually very similar to a tablet. Especially that one. Since it's a Pen Tablet and a multi-touch input device. It does the exact same thing the Track Pad does, but also ads the ability to use a pen with pressure control.

I agree, this isn't a tablet, so don't compare it to one. It's neither large enough, and nor does it have the touch sensitivity. I'd imaging using a stylus would not only be hideously inaccurate because of scaling issues, but it'd scratch the surface to hell.

Wow, look at all the pages already.

I think things like this are baby steps towards Apple eventually phasing out physical keyboards. You heard it here first.

Yup, he seemed to be saying this device wasn't worth purchasing because it's not a tablet... It's a bit like saying a motorbike isn't worth buying because it's not an RV - the very fact you commented seems to imply a negative comment/criticism because this isn't the device he wanted...

Going to have to get me one of these...will be interesting how it compares to a mouse with everyday use.

BetterTouchTool

They just released an alpha of BetterTouchTool which supports the Magic Trackpad. I've been using this on my MBP for quite some time and also with a Magic Mouse and it pretty much enables you to do anything with these multitouch wise that Apple doesn't officially support. You know, for any of you sitting on the fence out there.

So...he's now required to buy this and a motorbike? Geez, lighten up dude. Let him shop, too.

I see...

I wanted something like this for a long time. I like the trackpad on my unibodies and I was hoping that Apple would make a keyboard with multitouch glass trackpad on one end. Of course, that would impose issues between left-handers and right-handers.

Also, now you have to buy a keyboard AND a trackpad.

Seriously, for this money, you can get a Wacom Bamboo with pressure sensitiveness. It doesn't match your alu tech, but it will also work as a proper graphic tablet.

Not in stores yet. Stopped by today but they didn't have it in my store yet.

I went ahead and got two day shipping on it. Hope it come before my trip home on Friday.

I fail to see how this could be better then a mouse. In fact, I prefer using the mouse over the touchpad on the MBP.

I just ordered one. I really hate trackpads, but the Magic Mouse surprised me in that it's now my favourite mouse. So maybe this could surprise me too, or maybe it'll end up in the trash like the Mighty Mouse. But it's :apple: we must try. :D

Enh, it's not for everybody. But I, for one, will be ditching the mouse.

I have fallen in love with Apple's trackpads. Nobody does it better.

I've had my MBP 13" for a year now, and it's my only Mac machine, and I'm soooo used to using the trackpad with OSX. I equate my desktop Windows machine with a traditional mouse, but with OSX I automatically think multi-touch trackpad, and when I get an iMac I'll probably almost always want to use this, plus I'd be recycling my Logitech MK700 mouse instead of the Magic Mouse.

The only problem is when you order an iMac, Apple.com makes you get a Magic Mouse, Magic Mouse + the Magic Trackpad, not just the trackpad... or the just the wired mouse. :(

First? Apparently you've missed news of the iPhone, iPad, and Jobs' ""PCs are going to be like trucks".

It looks nice. But I really thought that Apple would release an input device with a small LCD screen. I imagine that's a few years away.

That's available now. It's called the iPod Touch. Just add a remote control app and you're done! lol

Interesting HTPC Input Device

The first thing I thought of when I saw this is having a Magic Trackpad on the armrest of my couch to control a Mac Mini or Apple TV hooked up to my living room TV. This has potential as a nice little input device that is always on and always connected. With the ability to customize commands for each gesture this could be pretty useful.

The games you probably mean are designed to work with standard mice. A trackpad is probably not going to do the same thing. This device is not intended for serious gaming. But see, gaming mice aren't very useful to me for everything else. Trackballs and pads are far more ergonomic for daily use.

Very true. For a lot of gaming, I really prefer to use a mouse and a trackpad is almost impossible. But, for everything else, I much prefer a trackpad.
