Love it! Want it!

Been waiting for ages for something like this. Haven't been using a mouse for years because Apple got the trackpad perfect, especially the current glass ones. The 2 finger scroll and exposé swipe are just perfect, as well as the tracking speed. Also, for some reason, the Mac's mouse acceleration curve is just wrong, it's a big jump from slow to fast.

I like how you can use a big trackpad on a couch, unlike a mouse that gets confused in the cloth's wrinkles. Perfect for media centers.

AGAIN a battery eating, radiation emitting, wireless only device. "We are so green at Apple".

I love the trackpad on the MBP. Whenever I get to use one it feels so natural and I don't even think twice about the gestures. Apple should have went straight to this and forget about the Magic Mouse. Trying to do gestures on top that mouse is horrible and it has limited gestures.

Wow, some innovation from Apple not connected to iDevices. Still, I don't think this thing will be able to beat my 8 year old Microsoft Trackball Explorer.

More hypocrisy from Apple. Here is another one. The 1st and 2nd iPhones (aka 2G and 3G) have the same internals, except that the 3G has, well, 3G. Other than that, the CPU, GPU, RAM ect... are the same. However, Apple would only port iOS4 to the 3G, and not the original iPhone. The intended effect of this is clear, make users move to a new device rather than making due with a perfectly functioning one; however one of the core concepts in conservation is to extend the lifetime of your current items.

Apple professes to 'be green' yet they do not follow this mantra by preventing the original iPhone to be upgrades, thereby forcing people to move to a new device and increase pollution and reduce natural resources.

If they included pen with it so it can be used as graphic tablet as well - it would be an instant buy...

Can I get a sticker to go over it with a numeric keypad, which would activate when I hit some button?

+1

Incredible idea.

I've already ordered mine, much prefer using this as part of my workflow than a mouse. Left hand is my trusty intuous 3, keyboard center, and now a track pad to the right instead of the magic mouse - now if the trackpad doubled as a numeric keypad then I'm in heaven...

From the site:

Now there’s a more environmentally friendly way to go wireless. The Apple Battery Charger comes
with six high-performance AA NiMH batteries. And once they’re done charging, the charger automatically
reduces the amount of power it needs, so you don’t have to worry about wasting energy.

Well, there is a more environmentally way to work.

With a wire.

No need to charge.
Always works, doesn't interfere with other devices, no need to pair the devices.
Cheaper to make (sounds interesting, doesn't it?)
No radiation that goes through your body.

Apple can be greener.

You're talking about something completely different. This isn't a tablet.

Did you actually click the link before commenting on this or did you just come to the conclusion that it was just a tablet??? Very similar to the Apple Magic Trackpad and i think i would spend the extra and get a tablet and multi touch device all in one!

LOL!! There is far more radiation going through your body every time you are under the sun. I think you'll probably survive the existence of bluetooth. And the wire also uses electricity, are you insane? Maybe you should just go live in a cave, stay away from all that dangerous radiation. Oh, and:

So in your experience the trackpad, at least on the MBP, is a viable substitute in gaming situations? If true, that's one possibly one significant hurdle overcome for me for the magic trackpad.
The games you probably mean are designed to work with standard mice. A trackpad is probably not going to do the same thing. This device is not intended for serious gaming. But see, gaming mice aren't very useful to me for everything else. Trackballs and pads are far more ergonomic for daily use.

Dude, chill out. Nobody forces you to buy anything. You don't like - you don't buy.

Yes, and we could all be greener - don't use a computer, work on a re-used slate and a piece of environmentally-sound chalk from a sustainable source.

Of course any company can be greener - what's your point? They're not claiming to have zero eco-impact, they're simply stating that this is a greener device than many in its class.

Doesn't seem like something I can use but others would... especially in graphics... Apple should have just came out with a touch'screen display instead :)

Like this - pass... :(

So you want a graphics tablet, but Apple haven't produced one. Is that a reason to criticise a device that is designed as a track pad and will do the job just fine for those who want it?
