On an older iMac, early 2009, I have next to no problems on El Cap. Occasionally, as for instance today after 5 days continuously open, waking/sleeping, it woke up this morning with a case of rainbow wheel. Rebooting and signed in, all better. At work, it's even more dramatic. The old iMac, among the first ones eligible, left on 10.6.8 for years, I backed up, then updated to el Cap from the App Store. Works like a new computer. I was worried if the old thing would work. It does, with a new lease on life. It loves Metal.

I've had issues with screen sharing. I have a Mac Pro and a Retina iMac in the same room at home. From work I can remote into the Mac Pro running 10.11.3 from my iMac running 10.11.3, but I can't get to my Retina iMac running 10.11.4. But I can remote into the Mac Pro and then remote from the Mac Pro to the Retina iMac. Of course daisy chained screen sharing leaves a lot to be desired. I'm thinking it's time to pull my last machine out of the beta program. Early features aren't really worth the bugs.

It's understandable, when the whole graphics system is different from Yosemite to El Capitan. The Mac Pro is compatible on the OS level, and it has the speed to do the conversion from the old one to Metal. I'd go to El Capitan for all, unless there's an app problem with compatibility.

Since installing the second public beta I began experiencing a problem where whenever I try to put a word inside inverted commas (also called quotation marks), the first letter of the word is autocorrected to a foreign letter with an accent and the inverted comma disappears. It would happen for single and double inverted commas depending on whether there is a foreign symbol assigned to the letter.

I went through the autocorrect settings, as well as my personal dictionary but could not find the cause. I tried disabling autocorrect but that didn't help and I also tried different versions of English (US, UK, AUS), but to no avail.

In the end I discovered the problem resides in System Prefs > Keyboard > Input Sources.

My input source was listed as 'US International PC'. I added regular 'US' and removed the 'International PC' and since then it's no longer a problem. I hope this helps anybody else that encounters this problem.

I have to remember to disable Wi-Fi before connecting the Ethernet adapter, otherwise it will get stuck on Wi-Fi no matter what, until I reboot. If I plug in the Ethernet adapter and then disable Wi-Fi, I just stop having an internet connection. Even though Ethernet is connected, El Capitan won't even bother trying to use it. It just says "Your Mac is not connected to the Internet."

You should define a separate 'Network Location' setting for your wired network and switch to it, when you are connected via Ethernet. A guide on how to do this can be found here: http://www.cultofmac.com/242667/add...witch-among-them-in-the-apple-menu-os-x-tips/

How do I update? I've been enrolled in the public beta for a while but this update isn't popping up in the App Store Updates section like before? Thanks in advance.

First, open System Preferences and click the App Store icon. About half way down, make sure it says "Your computer is set to receive beta software updates." If it does, click the Show Updates button below that.

If that doesn't work, try signing out of your store account and signing back in. If that doesn't work, try restarting your Mac completely. If that doesn't work, try throwing a brick through the screen of the computer. If that doesn't work, switch to Windows as a last resort. ;)

WD MyBookLive has not been happy since El Cap. WD My Cloud seems a bit happier, but not as reliable as before.

I thought we are talking about NAS'es.

As much as I want to take you seriously, I can't. When I was shopping around for a NAS, I was strongly debating between buying Synology, QNAP or build my own with Freenas with Xeon/Avoton based hardware. WD hasn't even been on a remote thought or map, let alone being considered.

I went with an Intel Atom based Synology, DS713+, and by golly it has been a good solid choice, both performance and stability wise. I would still build my own now though, because manufacturers have a nasty habit of locking you in with their products. Apple doesn't do this.... /s.

If you want/need a proper NAS, you can start counting the minimum number of disks from two (RAID 1, you know), otherwise you're wasting money.

And going back to your post, I don't think your mac has anything to do with the performance and stability of your ARM based NAS. Admittedly, Finder is a steaming pile of crap for mounting and navigating mounted filesystems, but it can be avoided by using Pathfinder.

I haven't had a single issue or notice a single bug on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015).

I feel sorry for those who do, but leave me out of it. ;)

I'm guessing you don't have to use it professionally? I would normally keep our work machines a year behind updates to avoid problems but our new Mac Pros had it by default.

Does anyone else have a problem with Spotlight? The search results have been awful since I've been on Beta and the last 3 Beta versions won't even pull up an "Application" even thought all categories (with the exception of Bing) have been turned on - also, I used to be able to search Apple mail based on a few keywords from an email and it never finds the results - the search was amazing about a year ago.
Apple, spotlight is one of the most important features which I used to use on a daily bases at work. Please make it Amazing again. As a beta tester, I have sent in Feedback.

Rootless can be disabled, the green button behavior can be changed with the Option key, cut/paste in finder is done with the Option key, you can tell Mail not to download attachments automatically, folders on top is inconsistent for keyboard navigation.

Don't mean to sound like a fanboy, but, your green button, cut/paste and folders on top complaints sound like someone who came straight from Windows and didn't bother learning the OS X shortcuts would complain about.

I really think the green button behavior should be reversed. You should have to press the option key to send it to full screen. Maximize should be the default. im basing this on how i think most people would expect it to work/use it.

Metal is only supported on 2012 and later models so unless you have replaced iMacs original GPU with newer GPU I have hard time believing it would support Metal...

As for speed I am curious have you tested 10.6.8 and 10.11.3 on the same Mac? Based on my experiences with older Macs I haven't seen a single instance where 10.11 was faster than 10.6 on same Mac.

Spotlight have been buggy since the first 10.11 beta and it's slightly better now but it still cant find the same files that Mavericks Spotlight finds without problems. I have tried everything, reindexed drive which helped for a few hours, next I deleted index and created it again. It helped for about a day, afterwards same problem appeared again and I have given up because I have reported the same problem to Apple about twenty times and the bug is still present. It seems Apple regards customers as beta testers given how buggy 10.11 was when it was released and Spotlight bug is just the most obvious one...

Since El Capitan finally turned my mac into garbage, e.g. buggy Finder + my accounts (xcode, itunes, appstore) can't login (stuck in endless loop), all i have to say about this OSX update is:

You are ASSuming that Apple HAS a QA department....

They don't...it died when Jobs did.

New people run the show. You ask that question to Apple now and they will say, "what does QA stand for?...that sounds to harsh and will offend someone...

There is no one left at Apple that will yell at you and say, "That sucks you idiot, go back and do it right..!"

The New Apple is more concerning with political agendas and political correctness. More concerned with not hurting anyone's "feelings" now..." happy" people now run the show... No aggressive A types.

And is why they are working hard at wrist bands and play toys instead of grown up things like an OS working.

That's because  is now run by liberals who just do things to make people "feel better" because it's the thought that counts. Welcome to the FRAGMENTED STATES of AMERICA.

Yea I said it, it had to be said. Queue the complaints because I offended someone...

Mr. Orlandoech, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Ok Billy Madison...

I've had quite a few but my usage is probably unusual. I'm using an Ethernet adapter with a switch and El Capitan constantly switches me back to Wi-Fi. Only a restart fixes it. Safari also screws up occasionally when you have multiple tabs/windows open.
[doublepost=1455128333][/doublepost]"an import function for importing Evernote notes into the Notes app,"

Lol, pretty aggressive. Has anyone actually switched to the Notes app from Evernote?
Have you tried turning off Wi-Fi? Or are you saying that El Captian is turning Wi-Fi back on?

The Magic Mouse only has one button
Yeah, but there’s a two-button software option:

As usual, Apple needs to do the following:
  • Get rid of root as Apple's effectively given 3rd party developers the finger
  • Put in the option to change the green button's behaviour (full screen on a large desktop screen is completely redundant)
  • Add option in keyboard commands to have cmd+x and cmd+v act as cut/paste for MOVING files in the Finder
  • Fix the way attachments are handled in Mail (christ, a 600 billion dollar company should get this right the first time)
  • Add option of folders on top in the Finder

Excellent ideas. The full-screen is such a pain on desktop OS X compared with Windows (especially with all its snapping abilities). Window management in general seems to be much better in Windows 10 than OS X.

Folders are part of the structure and should always come at the top -- at the very least you should be able to enable this.

Yup. And the best part is, all of the demands are options (except for root). So nobody would feel forced out of options... you know, like many of us have already been with El Capitan's root and other issues.

I've been using quite a few linux distros on the mbp recently, and have to say elementaryos is by far my favourite. It will definitely be my exit strategy if I'm ever inclined to leave OSX entirely.

Could you explain the removing root thing please? I'm not sure if you mean the root/superuser account, the new rootless/SIP stuff, or something else?

Updated my Macbook Air. For some reason the update is not shown in the App Store Updates section 'Updates installed in the last 30 days'. Bit strange but not a big deal. Next beta update will arrive in 2 weeks :)

can you please tell me how you updated? I'm having the same issue you're describing and the beta profile is still installed on my macbook
