Apple Releases Third OS X Yosemite Public Beta, Developer Preview 8

Thanks, I didn't realize that. Texting at work will be a lot more tedious for now.

sms-relay was causing a major security issue with people that have two-way-authentication enabled. security codes come in on the same device that is requesting it. That's probably why they disabled it for now until they find a way to prevent relaying the security codes.

Linux vs OSX? Lets be real. Do you want a OS for work or play? Nothing will ever replace my primary Linux machine for work.

Both actually. I even have a selection of Steam Linux games I can play before I can be arsed rebooting into windows for something else. :apple:

Is anyone having problem sending non-iMessage texts in the Messages app? I'm able to send iMessages to other iOS friends, but it will not send regular SMS's anymore. I've tried wiping my iPhone and logged out of and back in iCloud on my laptop and still having the same problem.

Yea, I was for a long time. One of the DP's also reset my iPhone allowing Messages to use my phone number, so had to even reenable that. Messages has had a lot of problems the entirety of Yosemite...

Update to fix Mail issue before ios8?

Does it seem at all reasonable that a fix would be released for the Mail snafu before tomorrow's release of ios8?

If not I may revert to PB2 from a Time Machine backup in the morning.

Check out this post from earlier today and see if it solves your issue.

What problems was that person experiencing tho? Was it the signature hangup? or was it a completely different issue that this fixed?

Doubtful...this is beta software -- not final release, so the urgency to fix issues is probably in a queue ten miles long. They fix them one by one, but since it's not final release, their response is likely "shouldn't be running beta software on a machine that's not a test bed"

All mail issues are the result of a glitch with signatures that contain images.

Ya, I kind of figured that. But this is one of the first bugs I've run into that is so central to one of the most common uses of the operating system. Everything else I've been able to work around. This one isn't something that I can work with and I thought if many are having the same experience that there may be some sense of urgency.

Luckily it is not affecting a production machine. Just a laptop that I use a lot, but I have my iMac still on Mavericks.

One thing I noticed was the favicon's in my bookmarks are not populating when I visit that site.

Continuity Stopped Functioning

Guys, are you having the same problem of Continuity not working with DP8 with IOS8 GM. It was working perfectly with DP7 , but when i upgraded to DP8 it stopped!!!

Just to confirm, I had the issue where I could not reply/forward emails from the built in Mail.app.

I tried to delete the Users/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.com file as suggested in this thread however this file was not there. On my system it was in the sandbox directory for mail, /Users/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

Deleted this and rebooted and now all seems fine.

works for me - thank you

URL craziness in Messages

Sorry, haven't checked through all 20 pages, but: Does Messages make a hash out of URLs for anyone else? Instead of simply adding a hyperlink like MacRumors, now it says "MacRumors <http://macrumors.com/>" (but without the actual hyperlink), which becomes an enormous mess when you're pasting anything with numerous URLs embedded. Any fixes, workarounds?

I highly hope that you just were ironic...

Ironic? I think you're trying to use words above your vocabulary. I think you meant to say 'sarcastic.' And no. I'm
Not. The air is not a powerful machine and especially not a 2011.

Thanks for the correction, I might have misused the word (I'm not native english), but my point is the same nevertheless. The 2011 Air has all the technology (let alone computing power) that is needed for handoff. Or are you trying to say that you need the latest and fastest CPU and 8 gigs of RAM for such a simple feature to work? As far as I know, only two things are needed: Bluetooth LE and as I heard, some special type of WIFI chip (there are debates over if it's really necessary or just "planned obsolesce" from Apple). I might even accept if this turns out to be the case. But to say that Handoff won't work just because the 2011 Air is "not a powerful machine" is my friend, plain BS...

Same issue with Mail here. Can't reply to emails. Makes Yosemite unless for me. I'm going to revert back to PB2 via Time Machine. Too bad, I was liking PB3. But with a hosed email system it is useless.

Test in Guest

Log out/in to Guest User.
Test Mail.

If the problems go away then this indicates issues in your User's folder.

To troubleshoot your User's Library:

With Mail quit....

Go to the User's Library folder. This folder is hidden by default. To unhide: Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library.

Go to Containers. *Drag the com.apple.mail folder to the Desktop

Go to*Mail folder. Rename Mail folder in the User's Library to MailXX.
* * * * * *
Go to Preferences.*If you find any com.apple.mail.plist files, delete these.
*
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
Log in
Open Mail. It will recreate a new blank profile.
Add accounts one at a time and test.

You can revert to MailXX by simply removing the new folder and removing the XXs.

The air has always been underpowered. It can process word docs and *MANAGE* Facebook but for everything else it's kind of a slouch

I have a 2013 MBA with the low-end processor and 8GB of RAM. I used it daily for a year, including running a Windows VM. It was plenty powerful enough for my purposes.
