Not sure if it's known or it's just mine but noticed it in PB2 and it hasn't changed. Background and animations in Time Machine are buggy.

Time Machine has been buggy and near unusable since the first Public Beta. I literally just use it to back up now because actually entering Time Machine is a messed up experience right now!

----------

Gonna grab PB3 now. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow when I can get to use the hand off and continuity features for the first time! It's a shame about Photos and SMS continuity though! I guess we'll see those in the future.

I installed PB3 as a clean install.

Anyone else notice a placeholder for a missing "Photos" app in the dock?

Also the Downloads folder in the dock is missing the traditional "About Downloads" multilingual PDF that's always been installed with OS X, but in PB2 it was problematic for me, displaying in Arabic instead of English.

Is it just me or have they stopped putting the user's Documents folder in the Dock by default also?

I can still select menu bar control panels (such as Wi-Fi, Battery, Date and Time) from the launchpad screen! I've reported this bug.

All in all this definitely won't be gold master. It's still fairly buggy, but mostly of the niggling little type than major ones.

I don't think we'll see Yosemite being released until the October event at the earliest. We'll surely see iTunes 12 come out of beta and bundled with Yosemite before it goes gold master.

Also, does the Messages icon look a darker shade of blue to anyone else?

Overall I'm liking the work that all the icons are getting. We haven't seen a major icon refresh since 10.0. The speed of app launches is also very impressive. I think this is the biggest overhaul of OS X we've seen in one release.

Maybe they're recoding a lot of it in Swift because everything just seems so much Snappier™!

System Information > Software

Thanks Grahamperrin.

The build number I have for Public Beta 3 is OS X 10.10 (14A361p)

This is easier: Click on About This Mac, then click on the 10.10, it will show the built number.

Seems to me this built is much faster, BUT...

Google doesn't work at all anymore in Safari ????
Nothing happens, either when I type it in the URL Bar nor in Google page.

Read back, it’s been brought up.

Thanks, I've downloaded it from the "purchased" list.

Almost all bugs that i've reported are solved now. The OS is very polished now and runs really good on my old machine (2010 macbook white). I'm very curious of how it runs on my iMac, but I expect something similar. Happy.

Fixing Mail in DP8 - this worked for me.

For people having issues with Mail in DP8, I was having the same; I couldn't type into a compose window, and couldn't close a new message window.

I solved the issue by deleting the mail preference file at:

User -> Library -> Preferences -> com.apple.mail.plist

then rebooting. This solved the issue for me, and Mail is working flawlessly now.

Not missing here.

Not possible on my machines.

It's not intended to be hence the name OS X Yosemite Beta 10.10 in About This Mac.

FYI:
A reboot is not necessary since it is not a system file, a relaunch of Mail is sufficient.

I did have to reboot - tried without, and the problems remained. Does OS X never cache plist files?

A logout and in again may be sufficient, I suppose.

For those wondering about SMS relay...

From the DP 8 release notes.

SMS Note

- SMS Continuity is not currently available for testing. It will be available in October via a free update to iOS 8.

Also, for those who are using FileVault...

Installation Known Issue

- Users with automatic installation of updates enabled will not be automatically logged in after reboot from installing Developer Preview 8. If FileVault is enabled, the system will shut down if the user does not log in shortly after reboot.

SMS and call relay still working for me on DP8. I'm an EE customer, the only network in the UK that currently supports relay so maybe whether it works or not is network dependent.

WiFi Tx rate issue is back

Unfortunately after a day with PB3 - the WiFi problems has returned back - the Tx rate fluctuate from 260 to 1300 mbps... (the same was with DP6,7,8). With PB2 - the WiFi rate was 100% stable to 1300 Mbps (the Airport TM is located on the same place , 7 cm away my iMac)

Mail App not opening reply/forward windows

Just to confirm, I had the issue where I could not reply/forward emails from the built in Mail.app.

I tried to delete the Users/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.com file as suggested in this thread however this file was not there. On my system it was in the sandbox directory for mail, /Users/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

Deleted this and rebooted and now all seems fine.

I said with Increase contrast option enabled...

He wasn't talking to you. He was talking about the translucency issue with the HUD showing the background picture. Showing that bug is not present for everybody.

Still hosed for me. I deleted the referenced files and a few things improved, such as the ability to reply. But signatures are trashed and accounts in the mail program aren't always showing up in the Internet Accounts preference pane.

They clearly need to issue a fix asap.

----------

PB3 has completely hosed my mail program and none of the fixes supplied have completely cleared up the issues.

I'm considering doing a clean install of PB3 and then porting over all my docs and settings from my TM backup.

But I'm uncertain how to access and install PB3 on a machine who's hard drive has been wiped.

Any guidance?

If I can't then I need to revert back to my TM PB2 install which was mostly stable.

Mail usable again

Followed your instructions and at least it is usable again. Signatures are still gone or weird, but that's nothing compared to the big headache of before, where one could not even type, reply, etc. Thanks man!

OK, I figured out that most of the mail problems are all related to the signature settings.

When I am able to get the signatures for a particular account to set to "Random" or a specific signature then I am unable to reply to or compose an email.

But when I switch the signature back to "None" I am able to reply to or compose emails again from that account, but of course I don't have signatures.

So, the hangup must be occurring when we go to reply to or compose an email and that account is set to insert a signature and since that feature is broken, it simply refuses to even try to create the email.

Setting signatures for your account to "None" will solve the reply or compose issue, but you won't have signatures. I had to toggle the "Place signature above content" box in order to change to "None."

why is that little sound gone when changing volume? Was kinda useful

It's still there, they just flipped the pref so it defaults to off. You can turn it back on under system prefs>sound.

Those that found skeuomorphic/textured backgrounds distracting, I'm really curious, if you don't find the translucent salad mess in Yosemite any less distracting?

I hated the overly done skeuomorphic but like the translucency, much more subtle. They do need to make some fixes to the implementation though, like the "hole in the window" thing.

I second that, to solve this issue (it is a Signature Problem) ..... Use TEXT format in your signature , and it will solve your problem. In some cases you will need one TEXT formatted Signature , not multiple, and the problem will be solved
