Same here. I've been on all the public betas on my iPhone X. The latest public beta downloaded and the install started. After the phone rebooted, the progress bar got to the right hand side, and stayed there. For 20 mins. This isn't normal.

A vol + / vol - / hold power button reboot was needed, which started the update process again.

The update has completed successfully now.

Note to self: remember to reboot the phone before doing a major SW update.

Just came here to say this. Indeed, this requires a forced reboot @bkaus and @johannnn.

Force rebooting during a system update? Isn't that like the ONLY thing you should never do? :O

The iOS software update mechanism is very robust and redundant. It can survive a power failure and forced reboots and picks up at the last successful segment of the update.

Mine is moving again and doing so quickly, starting at the last point before it got stuck.

Depends how comfortable you are using alpha/beta quality software.
I've been in much worse messes than this before.
You can always recover using DFU mode.

Maps in iOS 12 in the Bay Area are seriously amazing. Everything renders instantly and there are accurate 3D representations of everything! Every little house gets a 3D render and flagship buildings get very detailed representations.

I’m looking forward to this being rolled out to my city and to the world at large so people can stop complaining about Maps. Apple had to do it when they did it and it has not only caught up but in my opinion gotten ahead of Google. I would not trade Flyover for anything else out there.

Confirmed working after force reboot. Didn't even know how to force reboot iPhone X.

I learned about the forced reboot after my 12 beta 1 iPhone X crashed as I landed at JFK at 2 in the morning. Had to borrow the cabbies iPhone to search how to do a hard restore, which was a big relief given I didn't have my laptop with me at the time and I was a bit freaked out about how to access my entire digital world with an iPhone stuck in a crash loop.

No.

You might find people who say yes, but just because someone hasn't encountered a specific bug doesn't mean you won't. On Beta 2 I've had to reset my phone about six times for major failures, most seeming to revolve around calls, FaceTime, and maps.

It's on my daily driver, but it's certainly not stable enough to be called that. If you're at all concerned or need your phone for work (I have a separate phone for just that, not by choice), then don't do it.

It’s absolutely fine as a daily as long as you check the app compatibility thread first. Most apps have been updated but the odd one hasn’t. Apart from the odd random respring I haven’t had a single issue with beta 3.

I tried to give IOS 12 a test on my iPhone 8 Plus, but after the install, it would no longer sync with iTunes on Mac OS 10.13.6 final release. So how many people are going to test it if it renders your iPhone useless?
Did you ever get prompted to download and install a tool on your Mac? I did once I had iOS 12 on my iPhone X(ten).

iMessage on my iPad Pro 10.5 no longer displays contact name or photo. Only a mobile number is shown. However, messages on my iPhone 7 Plus rocking the same PB3, works fine.

I have submitted feedback to Apple.

Stable as a daily driver?
Depends on who you are. As a general rule of thumb, it’s not a good idea to instal a beta on your daily driver. That being said, if you understand that it is a beta you’ll be fine. I have it on my iPhone X and beta 1 was amazing. Now that I’m on beta 2 there are far more bugs. The most annoying one is my phone forces a respring 2-3 times a day. There are a few other ones. But they’re all not to bad and don’t even come to mind. If you’re techi I’d say go for it. If you’re an average consumer I’d say just wait 2 months for the official release.

If you open up Maps, there's a pretty hilarious hard line across the center of California where the new Maps end and the old Maps still exist.
That’s actually a political boundary. North county lines of San Luis Obispo, Kern, and San Bernardino. california-county-map.gif

It is both: the fourth developers beta and third public beta, as the public one will remain one step behind until the end of the beta cycle.
One step behind by number but...
Developer Beta 4 = Public Beta 3

Right?

Can you share an example? Just looked at downtown San Francisco and everything still looks like chunky salsa.

I did a power cycle on both of my iOS devices before I initiated the OTA update. Everything went smooth, I’d say it took less than 5 minutes per device. Screen Time now seems to be working just fine. I’ve been using both of my iOS devices as daily drivers since the first PB - few gimmicks here and there but nothing crazy. Please make sure to give devs feedback so that they can address your issues. Cheers!

iMessage on both of my iOS devices been displaying contact information just fine, but on my Apple Watch, I only see mobile numbers as opposed to contact name or photo. I also have not been able to send or receive SMS messages on my iPad or MBP - I can only send and receive SMS on my iPhone.

I hope the speed increases are apparent. My SE and ipad have been super slow since being forced to 11.

I have got prompted to download and install a tool on my MBP, running PB3 of Mojave. It helped me make a full iTunes backup of my iOS devices but Image Capture still does not work - I cannot import any media (photos/videos) from my iOS devices.
