As we speak, the Apple TV is being marketed using phrases such as these (emphasis added by me):
"Apps have liberated television. They allow you to make individual choices about what you want to watch. And when and where you want to watch it."

It doesn't exactly scream "only content curated by Apple and its partners" or "only at home, not in your cabin". Note that the Apple TV already has some of the attributes of a semi-portable device. It already fits nicely in any kind of bag. It already lacks any sharp foot long spikes that would make it difficult to carry. Reading media files from a similarly portable USB storage can be seen as a very logical way to realize the promise of the quote.

I'm sorry did Apple forget to idiot proof that "where" remark with an asterisk?
And say:

"only where broadband connection is available" "where referees to anywhere in your home. As long as a LAN or wireless broadband is available" "Not meant to convey the Apple TV is a portable device"

Well, 9.1.1 killed both Wifi and ethernet connections on my aTV4.

[edit] just talked to apple support. they're sending, for free, a USB-C cable so I can load new software.

Manually updated, on restart it could not connect to my network either via wifi or ethernet. I restarted the aTV4 again, no change. then thought resetting the aTV4 would help. on setting up it can see my wifi networks but cannot log into them wifi no connection via ethernet. So its a brick until

[edit 2] got it working by manually putting a fixed IP. But now I redownload all the apps and reset them up. automatic network still can not connect

So one would be an idiot to assume an Apple product can do what competing products can do? Flame Apple all you want, but try not to get an aneurysm over this. I'm just quoting how they are marketing it, since you brought it up.

After the update I tried out a video podcast. When I went to fast forward it somehow got stuck in a 2x speed play. I tried to counter it with rewinding. Now it's stuck in a half-speed play. Leo Laporte sounds like he is on quaaludes! I've used the multitasking screen to quit the podcasts app several times. I've restarted several times. I've unplugged it. No luck. All podcasts are playing in slow motion! Any ideas before I try a total reset?

after the update, audio in netflix no longer works. I tried deleting and re-install the app. but nothing

I do not believe this to be true. I listen to Podcasts on my iPod which then syncs with iTunes... the mark as played and playback position DO NOT ever sync to my iPhone. It's useless for cross device listening and makes me wonder why anyone would use it.

The syncing is there, but it's glitchy. Mark as played doesn't sync for me on my Mac for example. Playback position however does sync for me everywhere. But its supposed to be there, it's just half baked still: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204207

Not if you don't sell those copies. I doubt the MPAA is going to raid your house for making backup copies of your DVDs.

Um...

THEY HAVE IN THE PAST!

The RIAA PAID hackers to break into peoples computers from the public internet, and then filed charges against them IN COURT, and many people, far too many in my book, settled with them, rather than fight...

Also, did you know that EVERY disc your computer writes is tagged with the serial number of your drive? The DRM has gone very deep...

Well I use a Mac Mini with homesharing turned on in iTunes. Has been working well for me for some years now.
... and regardless of what the ATV4 specs tell you, iTunes 10.6.3 and OS X 10.5.8 running on a 1st gen Mac Mini G4 will work just fine with it...

I'm going to the new exciting yet exclusively Apple coffee shop around the corner which has never been done before. Impossibly thin cups, ridiculously drinkable coffee that we've fused with the mooest of cows milk and optional sweetner in a packet, a first of it's kind.

Well - what you will get is only the coffee - they will sell the cup at astronomic prices as an optional "adapter" unit - and certainly will refuse to fill up 3rd party cups.

Don´t want to burn your fingers? That´s even a more expensive OPTION.

If you keep on criticizing their way to sell coffee without any equipment/container:
---> "YOU ARE JUST HOLDING IT WRONG!!"

Already to enter the apple-coffee-shop will only be able with a very expensive ticket.

At the end - after paying an astronomic amount of money - Jony Ive is astonished why you are not at all satisfied with his coffee: "We worked more than a whole year very hard on THIS coffee we just sold you - and I am very proud: THIS IS THE THINNEST COFFEE WE EVER MADE !!! "

:D
