No conspiracy theories. The old version wasn’t fully compatible with the Series 4. The charging tone would chime every few minutes or so when charging my Series 4 with the Stianless Steel band. Not sure if it was positioning or something more, but glad they released a new version. Hopefully this won’t have these issues.

I’m kind of surprised this wasn’t mentioned in the article. There’s several posts about this in the Apple Watch forum. MacRumors tends to ignore everything but the biggest of AW news, though.

That’s not a Series 4 bug - I have a Series 3 that has been giving me the intermittent charging tone since upgrading to WatchOS 5.

Weird. My S3 is fine; it only happened to my S4 using the aforementioned dock in an upright position with the stainless steel link band. And neither the 5.1 or 5.1.1 updates have fixed it.

I don’t like wireless charging very much due to heat inefficiency. Paying a mint for it is not my thing.

Sometimes, you know, there is no choice, unliess you might have discovered that hidden Lightning socket.

It is not something cheap, but, I like it. The old one charges the S4 without any problem by the way.

Eh, probably nothing major. Just added the ability to levitate or something.

Diet Snapple Peach Tea! That’s my drink! I buy that stuff 4 and 6 half-gallon bottles at a time! I just bought a few from the grocery store only a couple of hours ago, in fact. That’s some good sh... shtuff!

I found tilting my Series 4 back slightly on the stand so the charger lines up better seems to eliminate that intermittent charging tone. Not sure how other bands would fare with that "fix" though, lol.

What’s funny, is when I tried to charge my 44mm watch on the old dock, it has to be tilted to fit. Not the aesthetic I think apple wants, hence the new model. But as a consumer, that sucks because now I gotta shell out another 80 bucks if I want my new watch to fit correctly. Ugh

Always thought the included Apple Watch charger really looks like a semi-mini version of AirPower. Has similar shape, just smaller.

Another thing I like is I can toss it in my bag for travels and not worry about bringing another cord.

But for those complaining about the price tag, it does include an extended length lightning cable for your typical long way to the plug nightstand. So that is a factor in the cost.

I have been using my Series 4 Stainless Steel and revision one of this charger with no issues. Sometimes you have to listen to make sure you have set your watch on it correctly. But this has always been the case. My wife has the same issue with her Series 3 Apple Watch and I had the same issue with the Series 2.

It sounds like your old charging stand or some component was faulty.

Nope. This is a well documented issue for series 4 owners with the original version of this product. It doesn’t happen with my series 3 or series 2.

My nightstand has a lamp, phone charger, watch charger, AirPods charger, and a spare USB plug for occasions I need to charge anything else (like the larger headphones I usually charge at work, but they last like 3 weeks between charges and I take them home for the weekend).

And on the other side of the bed, my girlfriend has another 4 to 5 powered items on her nightstand.

Rather than running ten long cables, I just have a power strip attached to both our nightstands. And I go out of my way to find *short* cables.

I'm guessing my number of devices is normal for anyone who owns an Apple Watch.
