$1699 for the 27"?! How does Apple do that? That 27" IPS panel is easily $1,200 + on its own.

design didnt change much.

I agree. What was all this garbage previously about "2 new features"... I have to assume one is the mouse. The other is... more air around the outside of the form?

However, I am surprised they released these today. These rumors are crazy.

on the Topend imac Displayport!! New imac meet my Xbox 360.. let them have sex & i am very happy..

Just ordered mine with the i7. Im digging the video in too! This is pretty much on point minus blu-ray. Very happy with this update.

I made an order for the base model 27" iMac, 2.53 GHz mac mini, and a magic mouse. I'm going to give my current mighty mouse to my sister. :)

what ??? no more 24" ??

21.5 may be too small

and 27 definitely tooooooo big

seems like having a LCD TV on the desk !!!

damn nvidia 9400 ! still here

and they kept the core 2 duo :(

8 GB in option, is it useful to upgrade memory from 4 to 8 ?

Radeon HD 4670: good gc ??

No, the 9400 and the 4670 suck.

Beyond expectations

It's finally time to retire my G4 733 after 8+ years of service. And what a way to do it!

This is astounding update. Except for the lack of a matte screen option and the default tiny keyboard, it's everything and more than I've been waiting for. In FantasyLand I'd want more expandability, but it's an iMac. I've submitted to the lack of middle-ground between the expandability of a Mac Pro and what the iMac offers. The new iMacs are powerful, beautiful machines.

An i7 with a 27 inch IPS screen?!?!?:) It looks like the wait, anticipation and dread has been well worth it.

Thanks Apple.

I think this is a big mistake. For me, 24" is perfect, now they've made it extremely difficult with such a huge gap between 21.5 and 27 inch options. Neither of which are suitable for me.
I do however, like the new options for the Mac Mini.

Then buy the mac mini with their 24" cinema display

Personally, I plan on combining my mac with my tv viewing, so I'm getting the mac mini and a 32" samsung hdtv

Does anyone know if the Core i7 is the desktop version or mobile?

I'm willing to go out on a limb on this one and say I don't know :p

Without the i5 there, I'd tell you it's an overclocked mobile part, just like we've seen before. However, the i5 (which lacks hyperthreading) is only available as a desktop part, and AFAIK, there'll be no mobile part like this until we hit 32 nm Westmere cores. Even then, there's no quad-core part planned. Arrandale is dual-core only. I find it highly unlikely that Intel would make a mobile variant that only Apple would get. (again, this isn't just a clockspeed thing as they've done before).

Therefore, I'd say the i5 has to be a desktop part, and the i7 may or may not be a desktop part.

Hmm, I want one so much, but the 4850 seems to be the only bad thing about the system. But I suppose you don't have to run games at max resolution, hell, I don't now. But the i7 should make up for it and let you run Crysis on high/very high on a decent resolution. Wonder when the next updates will be?

Grr, why doesn't Apple make the normal keyboard wireless??! The wireless keyboard as it is is too cramped! How difficult can that be...?! Now I have to buy a normal keyboard :(

Kids, don't try this at home

# Mini DisplayPort output port with support for DVI, VGA, and dual-link DVI (adapters sold separately). 27-inch models also support input from external DisplayPort sources (adapters sold separately).
# Support for extended desktop and video mirroring modes
# Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to a 30-inch display (2560 by 1600 pixels) on an external display

Theoretically, it would be possible to purchase two of these 27 inch models (like a school as an example) feed iMac A video to iMac B via the external displayport input, and use the ethernet connector to connect to mac B for use as a rendering engine or something.

Dual display, pseudo dual quad core, about $4700 with minimum memory.

Conceptually, his would be very cool, but it really would be best with an application to smooth out the wrinkles.

Imagine how cool this would be with a 10G connection.

Before everyone get's their panties in a bunch, yes the stock config on the new iMacs come with the smaller wireless keyboard as standard...but you can switch to the wired, bigger keyboard in the build-to-order section at no extra cost. Same for the mouse if you don't want the newer multi-touch mouse.

So no, you don't have to buy a normal keyboard.

Yeah, the quad version is almost there, but without an eSATA port not quite there. No fast storage beyond the built-in hdd.

FireWire 800 speeds are almost the same and you can do so much more with FireWire. I don't see a problem here. eSata connectors sucks so hard that I don't even have words to describe.

Everything in time :D

I bought that argument last year, but as of now there's no reason not to at least have BR as a BTO option in the Mac Pro. Apple has some of the best hardware and software for HD editing... WHY can't they complete the package with a BR drive? As many have pointed out, every other PC maker has offered SOME type of BR solution by now.
