New remote control

When you look at the options for buying a new imac or mac mini the remote control now has black buttons and forward and back buttons where the menu button was on the white remote.

Grr, why doesn't Apple make the normal keyboard wireless??! The wireless keyboard as it is is too cramped! How difficult can that be...?! Now I have to buy a normal keyboard :(

Logitech has a mac version of their wireless (not blue tooth) keyboard that I got from ClubMac for $39. The batteries last about 4 times longer than Apple's older white full size blue tooth, and it has number pads, etc.

For a Bluetooth version, there is the DiNovo "Edge", but without the 10 key, and with a small track pad that can be used in parallel with a mouse. I got one of those for $89 from ClubMac recently.

Both are set up for Macs: special keys for iTunes, email, Safari, etc.

So, there is an option.

imho

I'm often the first to find flaws but I also believe in giving credit where credit is due. It has been a long time since I have been impressed with a product update. However, this update is nothing short of spectacular. Really worth the wait and I'm quite pleased with the offerings.

To all the people who complain non-stop that you can throw a machine together and slap ubuntu on it for a lower cost, it's mattering less over time. You only need to look at the design, quality, and specs of these to know why Apple is slowly gaining marketshare. It's not just OS X anymore, the form and function of these machines is starting to get the respect it deserves.

Can it run Leopard?

Yes, and it also contains integrated radar to detect trolls.

Anyways, enough about Blu-Ray, that would be OK to have but nowhere near as important as finally getting a quad core option on a Mac that isn't a Mac Pro! Also happy about the faster specs on the mini.

Anyone else think the new MacBook looks like an MSI Wind? :D

I bought that argument last year, but as of now there's no reason not to at least have BR as a BTO option in the Mac Pro. Apple has some of the best hardware and software for HD editing... WHY can't they complete the package with a BR drive? As many have pointed out, every other PC maker has offered SOME type of BR solution by now.

So go and buy that solution ;)

I can't believe there are no matte, anti-glare screens. I feel sick. Apple's just not listening. A message to matte-supporters. There is a great need to increase the number of petition comments at http://macmatte.wordpress.com - so far there's close to 600 petition comments but we need to get this into the 1000's to get Apple's attention.

is that supposed to be a joke?

Not a joke at all, most likely. There are some people who need a Macintosh that can be booted into multiple operating systems, like Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard. If you develop software, then you likely want to test it on all these operating systems. I am quite sure that the new iMacs do _not_ run Leopard.

No, the 9400 and the 4670 suck.

I run all the latest games on an old Dell (a Core Duo) with a low profile 4650. Granted, it's not at some insane resolution (like the 27 inch's) but the 4670 should be plenty good for gaming on the 21 inch iMac. I'd upgrade to the 48XX on the 27 inch though.

Was there any sort of video card update? I thought the 4850 was BTO on the last gen iMac. As far as Bootcamp gaming is concerned, these are no different from the last generation -- they will be completely GPU limited :\

Yes, you are getting a last generation video card in a premium priced computer. In the case of the $1,200 21.5" 9400 card, it's two generations old.

As I stated before, there's an option that's even more simple: Just get the new iMac with a normal wired keyboard as it's an option...at no extra cost. People just have a knee-jerk reaction with "OMG, it only comes with a wireless keyboard" instead of taking the 5 seconds to look through the options of what you can get.

Still no blu-ray huh? I don't understand, especially when apple was one of the backers of blu.

Do they even make slot load laptop blu ray drives? If so how much do they cost? I for one won't miss blu ray because I don't watch movies at my computer desk.

FireWire 800 speeds are almost the same and you can do so much more with FireWire. I don't see a problem here. eSata connectors sucks so hard that I don't even have words to describe.

eSata is 3Gb/sec, FW800 is 800Mb/sec. With a single drive, the benefit is marginal, especially if you are transferring a lot of smaller blocks with seeks in between (like multi-track audio); but for video streams and external raid, eSata gets close to it transfer maximums for uncompressed HD video and Prores 422.

I, too, would like to see built in eSata with port multiplier support.

What's so different about the new Core 2 models? The HD 4670 should be covered under the existing Leopard HD 4000 drivers.

Otherwise the base 9400M G model has the best chance.

Do you sit outside often with your desktop? Just curious. This complaint is pretty valid on a laptop, but on a desktop I don't see the problem, personally.

I feel like I should wait to next year for Blu-ray, but it’s sooooo tempting especially that $2199 Core i7 model.

Gotta say, they LOOK very nice...esthetically.

However, I'm bummed about them still starting at $1200. I can't justify the $1200 for these specs even now. :( Moreover, I just can't justify spending $1200 for any computer system (Windows or Mac) that includes a monitor/kb/mouse for basic to average computer use these days.

Maybe next year Apple will get my money. I still think the baseline iMac (especially considering it's price/features are only updated when it is refreshed) is overpriced at $1200. I was hoping $999.

Now we know what that "extra air freight" stuff from the conference call yesterday was about...

Apple is now in the business of shipping TVs!!! 27 inches is HUGE!!! The difference between 21.5" and 27" is insane!

I will wait and see if peopale star having heat or other problems with i5/i7 and if that's only minor problems I guess I will try my luck with 27"|i7|2TB|8GB :)
