Really wanted a 256 SSD in the 15inch, but, can't bring myself to pay the £519 extra for it

Bit disappointed about that to be honest.

i7 2.66 will be a wow upgrade to my 2.17 Core2Duo though, and the card a huge upgrade to my Ati X1600. All round a nice upgrade for me.

****! I thought I was gonna be the first one to reply. Other than that, and in regards to the update, I respect the almost-price match for Canadians... We're still paying $50 CAD more than Americans!!!

Well, that's not too bad!

A few questions:
  • How do the 2.4 and 2.66GHz processors in the 13" model compare, is it just the speed or is there anything more to it?
  • What magnitude of speed difference is there between the Core 2 Duo, i5 and i7?
  • What kind of performance can I expect from the 330M graphics chip, should I be able to run somewhat recent games at medium or low settings on native resolution?

Most important feature:

Most important feature:

On-demand performance.

Off-the-charts efficiency.

The 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models come standard with automatic graphics switching. It’s a breakthrough technology from Apple that switches graphics processors on the fly to give you performance when you need it (when you’re playing the latest 3D game, for example) and better battery efficiency when you don’t (such as when you’re reading email). MacBook Pro transfers the workload between the powerful discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor and integrated Intel HD Graphics so seamlessly, you won’t even notice. Whether you’re using applications like Aperture, Motion, or Final Cut Pro or just surfing the web, your MacBook Pro always knows which processor to use. You don’t have to log out, shut down, or change your preferences. Automatic graphics switching does it all for you.

Price up again in the UK where I work. I'd say it was unbelievable but it's every time Apple release something now over here that the price goes up. The pound has rallied from 1.30 to the dollar to about 1.55 since the last update too so they should have been cheaper than they were!. Tw@s. If only there was a greater choice in OS's I'd give Apple the bullet at the drop of a hat.

Any benchmarks for the GeForce?

nVidia and ATI's numbering system are the most complex they've ever been.

So much easier back in the days of Voodoo and TNT!

Suprised to see the new MBP's use Intel HD Graphics and NVIDIA graphics-previously models used 9400/9600 graphics.

I wonder if the chipset is still NVIDIA or a Intel 5-series one in the new models.

Next we'll hopefully see a updated MacBook Air.

since they did not revise the air, im wondering if they will just let it die quietly...

No USB 3.0 support is the big disappointment for me.

Anyone know if the ExpressCard slot on the 17" will support the USB 3.0 Expresscard adapters?

13" = twice as much RAM, better battery, and better graphics for the same price. What's wrong with that?

You have got to be kidding. Waiting for months for this ****** update just wasn't worth it. I can tell you numerous things right now that they could have improved upon, but I'll skip that since 99% of the readers of the forums probably think the same us me :)

Core 2 Duo on the 13"? I guess Apple didn't want HD graphics only on the MBP. Also, good news on high-res option on 15". Good battery update too. Other spec updates…I don't think they're great…

So much for taking the MBPs to the next level... what a joke. One of the worst updates ever! How disappointing!
At least they didn't just have HD graphics in the MBPs.

Since the MacBook Pro 13" has been changed (better battery life), I guess that means there won't be a 13" MBP with i5 or i7 processor for a while.
Waiting for Sandy Bridge-MB…

When are they available?

Ok-- as much as I'd like to wait for a 13" with i3, I'm going to school in August and need to get this update.
which begs the question, does anyone know how soon are they available in store? :)
thank you!

OK, people opting for the middle 15 incher:
I think Apple killed that model, just compare the specs with the low end, a slight CPU and HDD bump, other than that they are basically the same thing, so before trying to justify the switch from the mid to high end just focus on the low end: it now has dedicated GPU! Kind of a no brainer.
