I was expecting MBPs 13" with i3 cpu...
At least it has now a better GPU and more HD space than the previous generation. It's time to buy one!

Dear all,

Just for my understanding. is the i7 quad-core or not?

With kind regards,
Bas

Sorry, no!

With two processor cores, the Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors offer virtually twice the computational power of a traditional single processor in the same space. To enjoy the greatest possible performance for processor-intensive tasks such as video rendering, gaming, and more, you can upgrade the processor in your MacBook Pro to the 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 processor — the fastest dual-core processor available.
From Apple spec sheet.

Would have loved to have an iX processor in the 13, but I'm still happy to go spend my money on it! Can't complain with a 10 hr battery and better graphics. :D

Nice update. I would have expected at least an i3 in the 13" though. Maybe Apple will update that when they do the MacBooks to the same processor, to maintain their economies of scale.

Also, the option to increase the screen resolution to 1680x1050 is a very nice addition

Excited

I've read these rumors for a few months now and finally registered and can't be more excited! Excellent updates, will go with the 13" for 1199 as 1899 for an i5 is big bucks for a university student. LOVE the battery life!!! main reason for the switch as very few laptops can compete with this and sitting in class all day hoping for a seat with a plug is not an option for me.

All I can say is I'm glad I was patient and pleasantly surprised.

One more thing....can people stop complaining already!!!!

That's all?

You could always drive to the US and pay $50 less for your computer (and a hundred for the trip, plus taxes).

Other than that, and in regards to the update, I respect the almost-price match for Canadians... We're still paying $50 CAD more than Americans!!!

i5/i7 still dual core !?!

Is it a typo on Apple's website, or are these new i5 and i7 MBP still just dual-core machines?

If it is correct, don't expect similar performance like you get with the highly praised i5/i7 iMacs.

IMHO using the same term for a dual-core and a quad-core machine is a bit misleading and could generate a lot refurbished MBPs due to people returning it, when they realize their mistake.

In July 2009 I bought the previous model 17" FULLY LOADED - 3.06 GHz, 8GB Ram, 500GB 7200 rpm, etc.

I was planning on upgrading if Apple would surprise me, but after seeing the update, I'm not too tempted.

I don't think the updates are as bad as people are making out, it just that Apple have become too greedy, they were already pricing their laptops at a premium, there was no need for price increases.

Wow, UK got screwed, $1199 -> £ + 17.5% is 915. Yesterday the price was £918, good price match, today it's gone to £999. Almost 10% up. Anyone know what the 15" prices were yesterday?

is it worth getting 8gb of ram or should I get it from somewhere else and install myself - where in the UK can I get it?

If you can't see the difference, then you need to have your eyes checked grandpa.
QFT. There may be little difference between 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 when playing a video on the screen, but the extra pixels are always welcome when actually creating those videos.

Higher resolution for photo editing, video editing and even Excel worksheets is always welcome.
