What if you're at home and don't want to have to put it on the charger? There's no real reason for this

Apple does this to ensure the watches have enough charge during the update process. There would be enough people trying to install at 5% of charge and subsequently bricking the watch when the update doesn't complete fully.

Just guessing, but is WiFi speed the limiting factor here? Doesn't the UG have to get from the iPhone to Apple Watch via Bluetooth?

Mine has said 2 hours remaining for the last 20+ minutes. Trying to detect movement of the progress bar is like watching paint dry.

I don't have my watch on my charger but it's allowing me to download. I started with about "2 hours" about 15 minutes ago and now it's down to 40 minutes remaining.

I'm in the UK 9.1 Public beta and showing my watchOS 1.0.1 - your software is up to date. I've restarted my phone numerous times and been trying for an hour. Was wondering if the 9.1 beta was the issue but appears people have been successful elsewhere. I'm so tempted to try and install iOS 9 if this doesn't resolve soon. Any suggestions greatly welcomed
Check your apple watch app on phone go to profiles under General tab make sure you didn't install the beta watch profile if you did delete it and reboot the watch

Sure. My watch didn't charge fully because wasn't placed in charger correctly last night. At 35%. Now I have appointment and have to leave soon. I'm taking with me in car.

are twitter and instagram native apps with watchOS2 or does an update need to be pushed out for those? i know they where updated last week but no mention of being native. also facebook messenger app that was mentioned at the keynote? did this delay prevent native apps from being released? and will start to see a bunch of them pushed out today?

I seem to remember Apple saying the Facebook messenger app would be coming later this year, I could be wrong about that though.

Some apps updated for third party complications last Wednesday when watchOS 2 was supposed to be released, so who knows! Should see more apps updating in the coming days now though

According to the documentation, you can make wi-fi calls WITHOUT your iPhone in proximity as long as it's a known network. Sweet!! I like this. Will be testing it as soon as I can. This is only on networks that support wi-fi calling, like T-Mobile.
but it should also work on FACETIME AUDIO calls, so that shouldn't be network or carrier dependent. Assuming both parties are on ios of course

its not even letting me download..., tried many times states software update failed...anyone else in the same boat..

Excellent. Thank you very much. Downloading now!

Yes it will work with FaceTime Audio. I prefer to use FaceTime Audio or wi-fi calling when possible for the clarity of call. I've been missing FT Audio calls since I couldn't answer on the Watch so def looking forward to this update.

I think you are mistaken. Wi-Fi calling has not been available on the Apple Watch before this update.

will I live in a 1870 stone farm house with thick walls and I can guarantee you 100% I made a call well out of blue tooth range this morning. on my apple watch.

In a totally different part of the house but with wifi coverage, away from phone (in fact I have tried with bluetooth off...and it worked)

It didn't work with powerline adapters I had to setup a 'roaming' wifi network with apple gear.

Have you got powerline adapters or wifi extenders?

cheers

Nice surprise, I wasn't expecting it today. Of course its estimating a full hour - ugh. So sloooowwww.
