Yes update notes this:

"Support for running apps without iPhone in proximity, including access to networking capabilities when connected to known WIFI networks."

I believe the iPhone is needed to discover a network, and then the watch will remember that as a preferred network for future iPhone-less access.

I will test this once software is updated.

Besides native apps, this might be the next best feature!

BTW my watch made this weird noise (like it was breaking wind) its twice its done that now and its still verifying

is this normal?

In Germany, running iOS 9.1 and was on wOS 2 beta... zero issues downloading, and a total time of 11 minutes.

Unfortunately, it's not running as well as the most recent GM was... will give it a day or so before proclaiming it their most innovative software abortion yet.

yes I think the key here is when the watch starts to show signs of install you know the install is working okay

my watch is on a £10 charge stand (great it is)

I was showing that the watch was up to date. I had to go into the watch app, General, profiles and delete the iOS 9 beta profile after which I restarted the watch and phone. Update 2.0 is now underway!!!
I installed GM last week and since then, I no longer see the beta profile. I am guessing the act of installing GM removes the profile? Anyway, I see the update for final watchOS 2.

No powerline adapters here. But you are saying you did something that according to Apple, shouldn't be possible until Watch OS 2.0. I didn't try turning off bluetooth and attempting a call. Yours is the first I've heard of this being possible before version 2. I assume you were running Watch OS 1 at the time.
He's right, it does work. I've always been able to do it in my home on opposite sides with bluetooth off. What apple is advertising is the ability to use the watch to answer phone calls lets say at work if you left your watch at home and your phone supports wifi calling. T-Mobile will enable the watch do it.

Clicked out? Elaborate please...thxs. I tried closing watch app on phone and restarting but to no effect.

sorry, hit top left general and reinstall (from memory) dont want to try again because its still installing

but the download must have been on phone because it took 1 min or so to download!

cheers

Good god there's people on Twitter complaining because the Watch needs to be on its charger in order to update. Seriously you can't wait until you get home to update? Sheesh.
Well to be fair, it's a silly requirement.

Did the update but can't use the watch. My watch keeps locking up after I enter my passcode. Attempting a reset now.
