This watch is starting to become a more interesting device to me now. I think in a couple years, when battery life has improved to a point that LTE doesn't drain it completely, and it can have a few days of life with usage, then I will pick one up. For now I am going to wait.

That will require some special new battery technology to come to market, which isn't going to happen. You can get a few days out of an Apple Watch today, but not if you plan on talking on it and listening to music on it all the time without a phone nearby. You may have to be waiting more than a few years for that.

What charging bug?? I have a series 1 and no problem charging...
But lately my watch will go into airplane mode and it won’t stay “off” until I reboot the watch. Extremely annoying. Is this related to charging?

Intermittently, in nightstand mode the watch stops charging and you get a "this charging device is not supported" message. It's happened to me a few times since 4.0. A bummer to wake up to that and an uncharged watch in the morning. Quite a few reported the same or a similar issue on the Apple Support boards with the new OS.

No idea about the issue you mention, but I did notice on a recent trip across time zones that while my iPhone reset to the time zone on my return, the watch did not. It had been in airplane mode. I also had to reboot the watch for it to reset. Not an issue I'd seen in previous versions of watchOS.

I don't know how well or poorly this might fit other people's day, but my charge routine is that I put it on the charger when I take a shower in the morning. I get dressed, eat breakfast (overall about an hour) and put the S3 AW back on before I leave and it's fully charged.

Exactly what I do as well these days!

I still have the original Apple Watch. Installation of any update is very slow and most times verification taps out where I have to press install again.

People with newer models: How is installation? I wanna upgrade next year, this is one of my only gripes.

The installation took quite a while for me. This is my first AW (3) so i don’t have anything to compare it to. Probably took around 20-30min? Or maybe it felt that long. But i was getting worried that something went wrong because it took way longer than a phone update.

Does this mean if you switch your phone off lte will work now? As cultofmac video the guy turned his phone off to test it.

So the ability has returned? Things are the way they used to be?

Nope not at all. Just updated my original series Apple Watch and it still says no music. Cheers Apple I really love having a 10+ year old iPod shuffle attached to my wrist. It’s totally useless now for music. Watch OS 4 has destroyed the killer app for me and the reason I bought the watch in the first place.

Agreed. An unfortunate reality with a device this small and current battery technology. It will be interesting to see how battery tech improves over the coming years.

With iTunes Match you can access your entire library from your watch. So no it’s not a remote control for your iPhone anymore, but can access everything if its in your account (paid I know, but works great) - iCloud Music Library also shows up for your iTunes Purchases.

How is this visible. I have iTunes Match but the music app simply says no music and that I should transfer music to the pathetically small internal storage. As I said - like the shuffle.

My understanding is that the main page is a scrollable list of everything you’ve synced - if you scroll up and tap Library that should include your iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match music. I am not positive if they’ve enabled that for Series 0,1, and 2 - that may sadly be disabled for those watches because of the slower WiFi chip included in those models. If that’s the case then yea watchOS 4 is a big downgrade and sticking with watchOS 3 would of been the way to go in many regards (if you swim though the automatic stroke detection in OS 4 is pretty amazing)

For those of us who updated not knowing Apple would do something so underhanded is a real slap in the face as there is no way to reverse to watchos 3

I am fuming that a watch I spent a significant amount on and cannot refund has been changed like this.

Apple today released watchOS 4.1, the first major update to the watchOS 4 operating system that runs on the Apple Watch. watchOS 4.1 comes more than a month after Apple released the new watchOS 4 to the public and it follows several weeks of developer beta testing.

watchOS 4.1 can be downloaded through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General -> Software Update. To install the new software, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery, it needs to be placed on a charger, and it needs to be in range of the iPhone.

The watchOS 4.1 update introduces support for streaming Apple Music content directly to LTE-equipped Apple Watch Series 3 models, allowing Apple Watch owners to listen to Apple Music even when an iPhone isn't nearby. A new Radio app that offers access to Beats 1 and other Apple Music radio stations is also included.

The Music app on the Apple Watch looks largely unchanged, offering up access to the Music Library, recently played songs, playlists, and Apple Music mixes, but now all Apple Music content can be streamed over an LTE connection and doesn't need to be downloaded to the device.

watchOS 4.1 also introduces a new Wi-Fi toggle for turning off Wi-Fi to force the Apple Watch to use an LTE connection and it displays the Wi-Fi SSID when connected to Wi-Fi os users can see which network the watch is using. The update also brings GymKit, allowing the Apple Watch to pair with supported gym equipment for information sharing purposes.

Along with these features, today's update introduces a range of new Unicode 10 emoji characters that include vomiting face, head exploding, mermaid, zombie, hedgehog, fairy, broccoli, and more. The new emoji are also available on iOS 11.1 and macOS High Sierra 10.13.1.

There are also several bug fixes and security improvements, including a fix for a serious vulnerability in the WPA2 Wi-Fi standard that protects many modern Wi-Fi networks. Full release notes for the update were released early and are below:For more information on watchOS, including the new watchOS 4.1 update, make sure to check out our dedicated watchOS 4 roundup.

[doublepost=1509549156][/doublepost]What settings for sleeping with the watch on? So it does not wake you. And, what setting to stop electromagnetic signals while sleeping (to avoid exposure)?

Yet I still cant listen to music or a podcast through the watch speaker.

So? I pay for the power :)
I think the argument could be made that many people wouldn’t make the correlation and think that the Apple Watch has a crappy battery or when your watch is dead by noon that you’d have some upset users, so for now that is simply not allowed, for now a small Bluetooth speaker is what you’ll need to do something like that.

I’ve been told elsewhere that you cannot. Can you access any song/album via the music app now like previous to 4.0?

Ah crap. I’m in the same boat as you and everyone else who liked having access to their phone’s library and was excited to be able to select songs/albums from the watch. So when I first went to the music app on the watch after upgrading, I got excited.

Unfortunately, I was apparently selecting from music already downloaded to my watch. After playing with it more, I can remotely control from music already playing. Including volume changes and moving back and forward between songs. Unable to select playlists, albums and songs therein.

For now use the WatchPlayer app - you can download new episodes over LTE, you can browse a directory on your watch or use scribble or dictation to search the iTunes Podcast Directory to add new shows directly on your watch, a pretty great solution until Apple rolls out their own.

Or you can follow this link: https://watchaware.com/post/20789/hack-music-apple-watch-podcast-app. It will show you how to put podcasts on your watch. It works great!

[doublepost=1509644234][/doublepost]I updated my S3 to 4.1 on Tuesday. So far everything has been working well. However, I noticed that when I'm away from my phone and on cellular with the watch the radio app has an issue. When I start the radio app up the last station I listened to shows up and I push play and it works as it should. But, when I hit back in the upper left to go back and choose a different station I get a message that says, "No internet connection. Must connect to cellular or WiFi to stream radio. Yet I'm currently listening to the radio and my texts and calls work. So what I do to fixed the problem is that I have to go into the control center toggle cellular off then back on. Then when I go start the radio app again all the stations show up.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I'm wondering if I toggle cellular off on my iPhone then back on if that will fix this issue moving forward? After updating to 4.1 I also had an issue where when on cellular texts were sending as SMS and everything was green. Then I toggled iMessages off on the phone and back on. That fixed the texts so when I'm on cellular they are now sending as iMessages and everything is blue. I'm wondering if it's the same issue with the radio. If I toggle cellular of on the phone it will fix the issue on the watch?
