Yup, I know, but there should be a "connector"
There is one AFAIK but it's only accessible for Apple service technicians.
Might have missed it. But according to the break down from iFixit, Apple Watches don't have data ports. Only the charge coil which serves as the only physical "port" besides LTE, BT and Wi-Fi.

Interested to know how important to your life the ECG feature is. Do you need it for medical purposes, or just to impress your friends. Assuming it’s the former as you attach such importance to it. And it will be enabled via an app download, not a watchOS update
I have Atrial Fibrillation, so yeah it’s for medical purposes. It’s actually for the exact purpose the feature was intended to monitor. It’s not an app download, as nothing for the feature has launched. No one knows what Apple is doing with it and is all speculative. Is it an app included in a WatchOS update? Is it a separate app to download on the phone with zero functionality that you then need to install on the watch after it’s downloaded? No one knows and Apple is silent on it as they have nothing further to report other than ‘later’.

I still can’t believe that an OS update can actually brick an Apple Watch in an unrepearable manner. Causes me to lose some faith in this device. Why? It can happen at all and again and again...

There is no DFU USB restore mode like with iOS/tvOS because the watches don't have a physical port.

There is a factory port underneath one of the wrist straps I assume is used for restores, but Authorized Apple Repair/Apple Stores don't have a procedure to do so.

With the publicity and cost of this, I expect they add a recovery mode to the boot loader or create procedures for local repairs.

I just searched for it, found an image, probably the original watch, don't know if it's still there though.

It's also there on the third generation and post #81 mentions it is still there.

Edit: Yup, still in the same place

I updated. No issues. I have a phone call with Apple Executive Relations tomorrow and I'm going to give them an earful about last week, though. What the heck happened to the beta testing?

It is an app download and the functionality is already in the Digital Crown on series 4 watches. At least that’s what Apple has stated.

It was extensively beta tested. They have a huge open beta and developer beta program. Sometimes these things still happen (not just to Apple but all companies rolling out software).

If the potential for something like this bothers you that much, I'd suggest waiting to update with every release going forward rather than doing so release day. There's the potential for issues with every software update from every company. Don't risk it and wait.

Apple has told us that it will be a built-in app. https://www.apple.com/watchos/feature-availability/#apps-ecg

Interesting thing to note, when the Series 4 first launched, it only listed the United States on this page. Now they've added Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Wat? It clearly says on the Apple website:

With the ECG app, Apple Watch Series 4 is capable of generating an ECG similar to a single-lead electrocardiogram. It’s a momentous achievement for a wearable device that can provide critical data for doctors and peace of mind for you.

ECG app coming later this year.

It will be a stock app on the Apple Watch just like the Workout app. An additional download will not be required, simply an update to the latest watchOS version.

I was commenting on what someone else stated that it won’t be in a WatchOS update. Who also said that I only wanted the function to show off to friends. Thing is I doubt the functionality is coming this year. Apple is soon to go on break for the holidays. Unless it’s a critical bug for the incoming iPad, I don’t think there will be anymore updates this year.

Updated my S3 from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 with no issues.

I’m just hoping this fixes the issue where, after placing it on the charger and it finished charging, it would make the “ding” sound (the sound it makes when you initially place it on the charger) every few minutes.

It obviously wasn’t tested enough, or someone pushed out a bad build. Shouldn’t happen with a company like Apple anymore. I remember the dread after the iPhone updates that caused bricking and or no cellular with iOS 8.
My S4 that was only 2 weeks old was bricked and it was such an annoyance that could’ve been avoided. Got it replaced easily enough but regular apple consumers are not meant to be beta testers...

Reread my post. I didn’t say you only wanted the feature to show off to friends. I asked you why the feature was important to you as you said you should have just stayed with your S3

Still no ECG feature. I thought for sure the .1 update would have it like the music streaming feature in WatchOS4.1. Probably should have just kept my S3. I’m beginning to doubt it’s coming, especially in 2018 as stated.

Yup, ECG will be released when that AirPower thing is released lol.
