Really wish this could be turned off. The Smart HDR has pretty terrible skintones, especially for video, turning everyone into a "Trump-orange" color in many situations. I wouldn't trust the new version.

I do agree that Apple should let you turn this off but I disagree about the orange color. I've taken many shots and haven't found this to be the case at all, on the iPhone 11 Pro

This latest update for the iPhones, and iPads, is a hot mess of bugs, errors, and just down right whiffing it at the plate.

13.1 was almost out before 13 shipped. Now we are up to 13.1.2? This should look like a fail for Apple. It's a fail of the software that supports all the goodies. If the damn software is all that crazy, I could imagine a meeting with steve, and him pacing back and forth like a caged lion, and then unloading on the teams like there is no future.

It's a sad joke now.

Smart HDR on the iPhone XS is very good for landscapes, sunsets, etc, but it is pretty terrible for skin tones in general. On harsh lighting it recovers too much of the highlights making people appear flat and often times orange. It is so bad that when I see such pictures, I can instantly tell it was taken with an iPhone XS.

They toned it down a lot on the new iPhones, though. It's looking much better.

So it can’t be fixed on the xs unless you buy the new phone?

That the Xs doesn’t have focus pixels does not make it cheap. What it does make the Xs focus system is one different than the pro has.

So dark mode works only with the wide camera. Deep fusion works with wide and telephoto. Nothing works with ultra wide which hardly gets used anyways.

Update: It was never coming out today in the first place. If it was, it would’ve been out at 10 AM pacific. Next time wait to publish a story when it’s actually out.

Why Apple PR would inform people of an update that isn’t ready sounds too good to be true. I think too many took the bait or are making up things that aren’t true.

My 6s is still on 12.4.1. By the time it gets pushed OTA, it’s probably iOS 13.3 already

Not that I’m complaining. I always wait for first or second point updates before upgrading the OS to avoid bugs. Exception was iOS 12, where I downloaded it right away simply because iOS 11 is just worse.

As for this feature, it always amazes me how much work the Ax chip ISP does. And all the front end user see is just tapping the shutter button, yet all these processes (including all previous ones like tone mapping etc) are happening within the split second. That’s amazing.

sounds like you should go to android where it’s a mess to start with, they don’t updates and good luck having your issues fixed. But then at least your complaints would be valid

They are going to delay that feature until they see what google releases camera wise on the 14th. Makes sense don’t play ur ace camera card until you see if it needs to be tweaked vs google. Smart business move
