If you don't like this change, just sign-out out of iCloud completely.
It's not just about this one thing...
It's the direction - the implications --- a change in how they are viewing user content and privacy

That's not the problem. The big issue is creating a method that allows Apple to review content that's supposed to be private.
They care about the kids yet no matter how parental controls are set on the AppleTV music app my 7 year old gets to surf past 3 naked guys with their junk blurred out (Lil Nas X) to get to her kids bop songs.
This is an interesting perspective I think from Daring FireballApple knows they won’t walk back, nor bother to have a discussion. Either apple is evil or someone is forcing apple.
One of the best posts I have seen on this topic so far. Privacy was literally their selling point. Now that that's gone it's become that much clearer. If Apple is about to do what Google does, why not go with Google services which are much better anyway? Some of us, chose Apple's inferior services for privacy.
I don't think Apple is evil per se, but based on Neuenschwander's responses, they definitely have that "holier than thou" mentality. The fact they don't want the whole system and process to be as transparent as possible supports that.Apple knows they won’t walk back, nor bother to have a discussion. Either apple is evil or someone is forcing apple.

Snowden understands the situation. You…not so much.Don’t know what Snowden is upset about. Apple is in their right to keep child abuse off their servers. This feature acts as a deterrent so that nonces don’t even try it. It protects the PRIVACY of children.
Why are you defending Apple so desperately? Have some dignity, how the technology works is not even the point.

I feel like a lot of people are also missing that the people maintaining the list of images that are to be reviewed are funded primarily by the US DOJ 🙄
I understand how it works, and I still hate it.
I assume that also comes with a refund. If you don't like this change, just sign-out out of iCloud completely. It's not that inconvenient.
These devices are going (have gone) well beyond being communicative tools. They have now invaded our finances, our medical records, our education, and now family privacy.
I don't think it's just about data, but Apple has always been "having the higher morale." Watch Jobs' insistence of no porn in the app store. This can be as simply as an extension of that mindset. Problem is, the implication of the mass scanning system is rather big.Clearly Apple has data that this is a major problem. Also it seems the average person seems aloof to what a problem this is especially in other parts of the world as well.
The technology increases child abuse. How much liability will Apple hold as a result? And people complaining how the technology works is literally the point.
Nope, that’s not the case at all.Because it is illegal for Apple to have child abuse or any such content on their servers. By having the scan happen just prior to an upload, it protects Apple from being complicit. It should stop the image upload or the image from being sent to a recipient. Apple’s method right now is that the image will become blurred and a parent will be notified. It is better if the image simply doesn’t transmit.
You are not suffering any consequences if you’re not a nonce. It simply doesn’t affect you.
