that's handled by laying your phone on the tv during setup. Through bluetooth it takes your phone's wifi settings and itunes account.
I guess I should have used a bold and extra-large font for the words "after the initial setup" in my posting. Not only is changing passwords from time to time an important security practice, but you may also want to connect the Apple TV to different networks.

So i normally do not call for some one head on a spike. I however must say we need the head of who ever thought it was ok to ship the apple tv with out the remote app workings head on a spike. I sold mine with in a day of ownership due to the text entry mess. I am now refusing to buy one just out of spite.
What did you think Apple wouldn't update their product? Dumb!

When are they going to update the iOS Remote app to work with Siri? I mean the iPhone and the dedicated ATV Remote are basically the same thing, yet the iPhone is hardwired already to incorporate Siri.

That'll show 'em.

If you are saying you sent it back after trying to set it up using text entry on the remote, I too hated setting up my ATV for the first time with all of the apps that needed my login info and other set up requiring text. The text entry linear swipe sucks. Also, the accuracy of the touch sensitive portion of the remote sucks and I hope it can be calibrated in the future.

That said, I did not send it back because it is an excellent device overall. yes, it needs some fine tuning on the TVOS (text entry) and calibration of the touch portion of the remote. One down, one more to go for me.

Sigh. Did you even read the comment? This only works during the initial setup, but you cannot use it to change the password later, which is what I explicitly wrote.

My bad. How often do you change your wifi password?

I know they lost sales from a couple of relatives. They "heard" that the ATV4 was no good/not finished after it came out and bought Roku's. ...which actually have an interesting lineup of channels vs. Apple TV.

Interesting is a good word, I just went through their entire line up and only see Starz and Amazon Video (on it's way already) that I would want on my Apple TV. There is loads and loads of garbage. https://channelstore.roku.com/browse/movies-and-tv/popularity

what mess? you just used the touch swiper. it accelerates as you swipe so you can get pretty speedy with it. not a big deal at all, and i was done with it after 5 minutes of set up. then i moved on with my life and enjoyed the device.

What if you want to search for a specific movie... and SIRI keeps redirecting you to ITUNES. When you want to watch it on another app... Also my eye sight isn't 20/20.. so sitting on a couch with a 43 inch TV isn't ideal for type entry. Much easier to do my search on the phone.

It's actually MUCH easier to do a lot of search on your phone or IPAD. I guarantee I can find what I want to watch quicker than you using the remote app.

About once or twice a year. I have 3 ATVs in the house. If all 3 were ATV4s, this would be an even bigger pain (fortunately two of them are still ATV3s which support the Bluetooth keyboard I recently bought).

I also sometimes take an ATV with me when visiting friends and family, and logging into their Wifi networks would be painful as well with the ATV4.

Thank you, Apple. I had a feeling you'd make things right. And thanks also to all of those who actually bothered to send feedback to Apple.

Tim Cook's vision of the future of television started off with the 1980's stand-up arcade game version of text entry. Text entry for passwords, YouTube, HBO, the App store, and changing iTunes accounts was an epic fail with that swipe keyboard. Thank God Apple listened. Keep listening Apple. We love what you make, but please do not assume everyone will use Siri for all queries or want to feel nostalgic when entering text. ATV3 was great with the remote app. Don't change what works!

Well I guess this makes up for the embarrassment that is the Smart Battery Case.

Stopped in to pick up a mophie case and the apple person showed me the case.
the top third is very and felt wicked cheap.
I was torn but stuck with the mophie.

So I guess you had no problem entering YouTube searches, HBOGo shows, App Store searches, and passwords with various types of characters? I didn't return it but did consider it. Very happy Apple decided to move on to 2015 from its Original NES text entry.

Me too. The amount of times I pick up the remote and it goes fast forward crazy.
The remote is great.. But Apple LOVES to try to force users into new habits...by disabling older working options. This time.. they left out a VERY practical thing of being able to do password and searches on a compatible product. Also IPHONEs are great as second controllers in games. Thankfully they realized the folly of their ways this time.

They placed it on the list of dead and non-working items. Items that land on that page do not always come back to life. This is normal the grave yard for apples finished things. So yeah i did no think they would after placing it on that page. This is also something that should have shipped as working so.

After people wrote nasty grams I know i was not very pleased about it. I can not believe they would try this non-sense of forcing a new habit with out having dictation there. If there had been dictation for searching like inside of apps like youtube. Then we could have maybe been semi ok with out it. I know what people will say well that is googles issue they did not want to play ball and be indexed. I would counter and say apple tried to play hardball and came up on the loosing end and had to re-enable the functionality they took away.
