It is so obvious the videos were doctored. Why didnt Steve himself lay out these handsets on the table at the press conference and do a live demo?

Because signal strength is very location dependent (plus a host of other factors including the weather, passing trucks, etc.)

I often get very different signal strengths from one side of a building to the other, and it varies from day to day.

And do you think all the other similar independent user videos on youtube are doctored as well? Why would Apple doctor a video if joe-blackberry owner didn't need to?

This is sort of a theme among the negative comments here. Even though Apple and independents proved conclusively that antennagate was total Gizmodo garbage, basically, lies, the negatives here still seem to insist there was a design flaw.

The only design flaw is in the brains and eyes of people that are looking for reasons to hate on Apple. Antennagate was really reaching. Other phones performance is absolutely germane. It's ridiculous that other manufacturers would complain after dogging Apple in ads and in the press. Apple exposed them. There is nothing special about iPhone 4's attenuation issues... they are universal to all cell phones, and it makes sense to use other phones to show this.

I totally disagree with Apple's decision to give away bumpers. They should have stuck to their guns.

The videos were doctored. E.g., n97 mini was in energy saving mode in which the antenna software behaves differently than under normal operation. Droid X was apparently not in 3G network in the first place.

The Droid X does not show 3G when making a call.

The phones in the videos from Apple are held in an awkward and unnatural way. The iphone 4 can be held like you would be making a call and the signal drops. I tested this on my 3g, my friend's droid, and my wife's iphone 4. I love Apple products and love the iphone 4, but let's be real about this and quit trying to make excuses.
