I’m curious to know if this was a somewhat coordinated plan, or if one decided to ban him and the rest just jumped on the bandwagon.
All within 12 hours is not a coincidence.

They don't want to keep drawing attention to this. They want de-platforming to become instant and commonplace. They are numbing the public to it and targeting someone high profile.

If these companies, including Apple, were truly independent in their actions, it wouldn't be like this. It's coordinated.

I guess my greatest concern is that banning companies/individuals (ie InfoWars/Alex Jones) creates a slippery slope.

It definitely seems time for some clarification to come into play as to what these platforms are, what they’re responsible for, and how so.

It's a bottomless pit used to ban and de-platform and censor conservatives. None of the Alt-Left dominated Tech companies (including Apple) ever cited specifically what he said or did.

"Islamaphobia" -- why? Because Jones pointed out that the increase in acid attacks in London and the new no-go zones all in Europe are a result of shared values of the groups they are importing?

"Bullying" -- of what? Jones didn't bully a kid, as lied about by major media. Jones pointing out strange inconsistencies with Sandy Hook is somehow supposed to make the parents feel "bullied"? Give me a break, are these people not mature? "Bullying" effectively means "you said something that offends me". Fine, then I could cite every post here that refutes my logic as "bullying" and should push to get those people banned.

Apple became a massive enemy of free speech today.

"OH BUT THEY'RE SO PROGRESSIVE, LOOK AT ALL THOSE PUNCH TRUMP APPS!"

How do you define hate speech other than speech you don’t like? And who are you or Apple to decide what speech qualifies as hate speech. Anyway now Jones can play the victim being supressed by the nasty liberals. Thanks Apple & Facebook.
Apple decides what speech they will allow all the time...and always has as it relates to their app stores and products. It’s just now they decided Alex Jones was going too far on their platforms and they believe it could harm their business or violates their terms and Alex Jones if all people is the hill people want to die on....

You are make inferences not in evidence. I'm not mad, simply stating objective fact.

What IS An objective fact is that you don't understand satire.

You like conspiracy theories. Now it makes sense that you're coming to Jones' defense.

Not nice, Apple, not nice .. As far as I know hate speech, as long as you don't call for violence, is protected speech just like any other kind of speech in U.S. Snowflake virus is infecting this planet fast.
To be fair, Alex Jones' conspiracy theories about Sandy Hook forced some of the parents of those dead children into hiding due to death threats. I think most would agree that they were protecting themselves from violence. Additionally, this is the free market speaking, not Government, and at one time Conservatives cherished protecting that.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes. Cynthia Nixon. Debra Haaland. Pramila Jayapal. Earl Blumenauer. Plenty of examples.

Now since you're claiming these people campaigning on abolishing ICE, you wouldn't have any links providing evidence to reinforce your claim, would you?

A steady stream of racist tweets is not "satire," it's racism.

Says the man who doesn't get satire.

YES! Oh my God we agree :) you have no idea how happy I am after all this back and forth :)

I'm sorry if I wasn't communicating this well but this is what I've been saying all along, the first amendment CAN be applied to private property when it takes on the definition of "public square." It's not common, it's not all spaces, but it absolutely can be applied.

You were clear. I didn't exactly understand the full thrust of your point. Which is extremely nuanced. And I mean extremely. This is not something easily explained to someone with 0 background in constitutional law. So thanks for the patience. I enjoyed the spirited debate.

now we're into theorizing, which is great. I think you could argue that major online platforms, as the continue to consolidate, have become the public square. If people primarily communicate on platforms like facebook/twitter/youtube then you can make an analogy - again, despite the private ownership of servers/bandwidth/etc - that those online platforms have become public square. Especially if that is where significant political debate takes place. I think there's enough there to file. Would it hold up, who knows, the make up of the next court may not be favorable to that argument. I think it would be an interesting case though.

I concur. Defining it as a public space would be the best bet. Though that would take a leap. Even if rigorous debate were to occur there, it's still a leap to defining it as public space based on the nature of discourse - but it would be interesting to see it done.

I think it would all hinge on whether online platforms can be classified public square. Given the political debates taking place on these environment I think you could. I'd so be following that case if/when it happens! :)

Agreed.

Totally. Way back when we had a lecture on these in constitutional law, I loved it. Marsh obviously stuck in my head all these (ugh, too many now) years.
Good memory!
It's a good case, and it's use for testing private spaces as public, today are oddly still valid. Pruneyard I believe, won't last long. It's been severely limited.

Don't forget to include the 19 ICE agents calling for it as well.
http://thehill.com/latino/394757-more-than-a-dozen-ice-agents-call-to-abolish-agency

This is a deliberately misleading headline and the body of the article contains false statements that are not supported by the evidence. A reading of the actual letter reveals that they are calling for no such thing. The group of regional supervisors, not agents, who signed the letter are asking for Homeland Security Investigations to be split out of ICE and into its own entity. In no shape or form are they calling for the abolishment of ICE.

Companies don't have to believe in free speech. Governments do. Companies have the right to decide what type of speech they don't like and to ban it. You're free to take your business and ideas onto a different platform. Your rights are not affected. Jones is a complete ******** and should be removed from society not just the Apple podcasts.

Sorry, I assumed you were familiar with the first amendment of the constitution. Read that and my post should make sense to you.

I have read the 1A. Have you read the thread title? It’s about a company choosing not to use their resources to facilitate the distribution of Jones’ crap. It’s not about some government crackdown on nutty speech.

CNN also led the campaign to purge Infowars from tech platforms. It was a coordinated politically motivated attack and they have been at this for months.

They just successfully censored and banned one of their major competitors. Infowars had over 2 million subscribers on YouTube alone. CNN only gained traction on YouTube after YouTube changed their algorithms to favor MSM sites.

From twitter:

"The same leftists who spent the last 2 weeks defending Sarah Jeong & James Gunn for their offensive online speech are now celebrating Infowars being banned for offensive speech. "It's OK when we do it.""

I’m not sure it’s fair to put InfoWars on the same level as the MSM to start with. And the MSM may be full of misleading BS but I’m not sure they’re anywhere close to spreading the amount of nonsense Alex Jones puts out.

Jones media should not be normalized.

There is nothing to understand. The tweets are racist. Stop prevaricating.
There’s nothing to understand. The president is racist. Stop prevaricating.

The double standards in some parts of the right (not necessarily saying you) are insane. On one hand saying someone making stupid “white people” jokes (in the past) should preclude someone having a job...

Ooook. Well there are people high up the GOP doing much, much worse and revelling in it. Why is political correctness terrible until the right need to clutch their pearls about the Libs saying offensive stuff?

If there was ever to be a real crackdown on fake news? Infowars would have to be at the top of the list to axe. Because it’s almost all entirely made up fearmongering ****.

Someone earlier called TYT genocide deniers too, and more disinfo is spread. They have addressed that, on numerous occasions. Far too many people trying to character assassinate rather than either empathise, listen or apply any sort of nuance to a situation.* But only when it’s convenient. It doesn’t have to be this tribal.

*infowars also had no nuance, was never a legit news source, and is outright damaging. Too large a proportion of the public can’t tell the difference between sub WWE level “performance art” and reality and would rather be in a ridiculous ARG than confront tangible issues. This is not healthy, and causes real harm. Jones’ rants about “taking people down”, pedophile conspiracies, people being literal demons, the fema camps, the fluoride, the satanic witches who tried to date him in high school (lol) the new world order, the.. Everything.

Good riddance, again.

Islam (Muslims) aren’t a race!! People who follow Islam come from many different races.

You can wrap it up any way you want, the EDL and Tommy Robbinson are a bunch of racist thugs. Nazi salutes, Tommy Robbinson was not too long ago arrested for live-streaming to Facebook outside a court room while a court case was taking place.

CNN now agitating for Apple and Google to ban Infowars from their app stores. They aren't happy with their Chinese-style political censorship until it is total and complete.

If successful, they will start agitating for Google to de-list all search results for Jones and Infowars.

This is the modern left, folks. They defend to the death anti-white racists like Sarah Jeong, but will stop at nothing to de-platform and censor anyone who opposes them.

Are you referring to the case of Muslim gangs raping white British children and forcing them into child prostitution? Is that the case you are talking about?

Remember when we could all agree that the Nazis were the bad guys? Good times.

Remember when everyone you disagreed with wasn't called a nazi? Good times.

None of her comments are jokes. Sarah Jeong is a straight up racist. Full stop. You can't run from it. The left owns this now.

Isn’t it funny how the fact that they are Muslim seems to be a thing. How often is it mentioned when it’s white men commiting these crimes?

He was arrested for contempt of court. Live streaming outside a court while the case was going on. I wonder how many times he did that against a white person who was on trial....Oh that’s right none!

Clearly reason and logic is difficult for you? Did you read what I wrote? How can you not understand what I'm saying and just say the same thing over the over.

"People who follow Islam come from many different races. It’s impossible to be racist when you are speaking against a belief or religion or cult."
