This is the digital future folks. Nothing out there is yours, and your access to it can just go away whenever the true owner feels like it. This isn’t just an Apple thing, this is your favorite movies, shows and music too. It just takes someone getting offended, worked up, or there’s a corporate pissing contest and the customer is the one who loses. Game studios can be the worst at this, making some games entirely unplayable after so many years. If you complain, they would just say that they own the content and you can go pound sand.
exaactly digital ownership will need to be reworked so that people can OWN again. Like with sony if they ban ur account which is within their right u lose access to YOUR PAID software. dosnt matter if its a mistake its gone. Like groove music!

I think it was a calculated move, Epic knew Fortnite would get pulled and is taking the short term money loss for what could be a PR win long term
But it
Epic trying to use the popularity of Fortnite to extort policy change from Apple. Good luck with that! 😂
ikr - you don’t have to develop for that platform. I don’t get why some iOS devs seem to be shackled into this mindset.

I hope that Netflix, all Google apps, Amazon video and kindle and all MS apps are updated to bypass Apple’s 30% BS fees. The consumer backlash against Tim Apple will be epic.

So Apple's not allowed to make money?

Lol they don't have these rules because they want to "create a level playing field" - they created these rules because they want a cut of the profits. Typical greedy BS, same reason they pioneered 1000 dollar phones and 4000 dollar midrange spec laptops

It sounds like you're defending microtransactions as a beneficial business model and that consumers losing access to paying for those microtransactions is harmful to them (the consumers). Is that correct?
It is up to the consumer if they want to pay for microtransactions, what epic have done here is prove that if the consumer does want to pay for microtransactions then Apples app store policies is forcing the consumer to pay more for those transactions than they would otherwise pay if they could pay the maker directly. BTW there is nothing inherently wrong with microtransactions, the customer has the choice of buying extras by microtransaction or not.

Apple should just create a paid developer tier for the cry babies where they are charged for advertising, bandwidth and server storage and charge them for their use. Fortnite was distributing a hefty sized file for free on Apples servers and bandwidth and they have a cheek to moan about a % going to Apple.

love it can’t wait to see how this all plays out. Hello EU. Where are you?

lawsuit that was fast.
This is definitely a planned coup of the App Store by software developers (mostly the big ones).

the argument for vendors like Epic (trying to be so with this news no doubt) will be to day there was a reason to first agree to the policy binding contract and use apples tools and destruction system yet feel they should NOT have to pay for that distribution and monitoring to Apple. Moreover the court I’m sure will somehow hear Epic loosing fees for the cost when their sales numbers skyrocketed through the roof on a successful platform during a pandemic.

this isn’t just greed.
this isn’t just a battle to not pay for a smartphone we store front.
this isn’t to go against curation of na App Store.
This is by all counts a push to go against app stores and delivery systems entirely - to release control there of.

yes Google no longer charges a fee - yet at what cost to the vendor and the end users on their devices that is no so obvious. Many argue that any “potential” harm of personal security or virii is not enough to shun them away. I call it digital pimping of their personal data lol.

one potential debate or thought to any abatement of smartphone or laptop app stores is ... whom will keep up a collection of apps on a central website for end users to download from?

going from vendor to vendor on the completed has lasted decades and makes sense. The PC platform in no way has as many applications installed per user (business or consumer) as their smartphones. I’d wager this is demographically scaled from 12:40yrs of age, then evens out thereafter.

Let me get this right.
Epic games knowingly broke the rule which they agreed, now suing.
What if I break the Terms of services (TOS) on Fornite and got banned? can I sued? Where is the logic here? When is Fortnite going to open up so I can sell my own weapons?
apples to oranges comparison again. u dont own fortnight you can Buy an instance but now own it apple owns the store which is true but u have bought the hardware they telling u what you can and cannnot have on such hardware will not stand its an ownership issue. One we will have to face. say I die and I want to will my purchesed content to my daughter this becomes a whole haslle because eulas state you may not have been able to do that which woould require actually legilslation to say hold up u dont have the athoritiy to make such agreements stand in a court of law

Two sides of the same coin. If anything, more popular apps should be pay Apple more than 30%. Small apps need more revenue to grow than large ones. Instead Apple rewards success by charging the same percentage.

This is why media shouldn’t be writing about an issue they don’t understand. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

Epic needs to realize if Apple didn't charge, then effectively Apple would be hosting other people's businesses for free. That doesn't seem fair to me. I know people poo poo the App Store, but it is still HANDS DOWN the best option for any developer to release a product that gets seen and used. Many of these little companies or homegrown developers wouldn't make any money if Apple didn't provide such a great space and ecosystem to thrive. Before the App Store, they would have to package their app, find distributors, market and make 1/5 of what they can now. There are other app ecosystems. If you want to do business in a market, it costs you. This is the cost to do business in the IOS Market.

They agreed to Apple’s terms when wanting to use Apple to grow their game but now doesn’t want too anymore. Kinda hard to argue monopoly when there are other operating systems. Apple built something successful and now others want in at their own terms and screaming injustice. Should we sue fortnite for charging too much or I can’t buy their in app products elsewhere.

Ok devil's advocate here. if true, then why does dev need to rip off people for these pack upgrades for $8 then regardless? For tiny upgrades to the game. Why not $3.99 or $4.99?

Maybe THAT should be regulated that you cant charge $x for a tiny pack of visual updates for your character etc to begin with. If it was a reasonable price for what you get, there would be money for all in it and still be reasonably prices to the consumer without the consumer charged $9.99

If you want some government regulation of some monetary conduct, then that logic follows. It begins a slippery slope.
