Exactly, I just don't have the warm fuzzies that I'll get 6 years out of this MBP.I do not feel the current crop of products can live up to the same quality and standards.

I am a huge Apple fan as I like OSX 10x better than windows.
With that said I am rooting for them to fail now. I realize they are a trillion dollar company but I think I am
one iSheep going to leave the herd as well.
Probably going to start with an X1 Carbon and see where Apple is in a few years....
Dell's in-home repair is second to none..
Personally, I don't think a corporation that concerns itself at least somewhat social issues is a bad thing — but they are definitely trying to squeeze every last buck out of their loyal customers. For me it seems Apple (or the leadership) seems more focused on profits and/or social issues.
i really love my macbook air from 2010 more and more everyday.Exactly, I just don't have the warm fuzzies that I'll get 6 years out of this MBP.
Basically same experience as described in this thread BUT what's worse IMHO the senior Apple Care representative promised some things and then the store didn't honour what was promised. And it repeated several times.![]()
I pay my ISP $7.51 per month for 500 Mbit/s. I pay Apple $4300 for the laptop and $379 for the additional warranty. For the inherently broken laptop which I will have to give away for 2+ weeks each time several times during its lifetime (both things are appalling by the way - you pay premium for the inherently broken model and you pay premium for the warranty and still spend 2+ weeks without the laptop). I guess difference in expectations is quite justified. The bigger the company equals less communication. Ever call your internet provider to deal with an issue and be told one thing, and then the next time you call back you are told something completely different?
Can't say I am rooting for them to fail… BUT! I do think Apple need to be pulled up short a tad.
The success of the iPhone has made them lose focus — and designing on the bleeding edge of ever thinner and lighter computers is starting to show diminishing returns for end users such as myself.
Sure, explore the possibilities and how far you can push design, but make that an expensive niche product that really showcases what they want — something to drool over, but not necessary — make that Ive's vanity project — but give the rest of us the machines that are reliable day to day work horses.
(Oh, and at least reasonably affordable.)

Geniuses in store were quite rude... I don't even know what I pay for anymore.Oh I agree. When i took my Audi to the dealer for service i was treated much better than when i took my Nissan to the dealer. The "experience" is part of what you pay for.
Lattes, comfortable waiting area, nice loaner cars, etc. But the service I received at both places still sucked.
Which store do you frequent? That's one of my points of frustration. I waited an excessive amount of time, even though I had an appointment. On one level, with them being so busy, I can understand walkins having to wait, but why make an appointment and then wait 45 minutes
There's already three class action lawsuits in the pipeline. I'm sure one (or all three??) will cover any and all 2016/2017 MBP owners.
Apple reminds me of IBM in the 80's. They could do no wrong and they are obviously around but not the King they once were. Fail may be a bit strong but they are too arrogant and I do not like that.
I do hobbyist iOS development so I am stuck with something Mac. I wish Apple would allow developers to make a native iOS app on a Windows machine. Then I would leave.....
My late 2008 MBP still lives on as music player and CD ripper in my jam room. The high water mark for me, is 6 years, since my 2012 rMBP is that old and it still functions. That machine is now my kid's and they'll be using it for homework.
That’s what I’m shooting for with my 2017 MBP. Saved my pennies for 3 years in order to get it completely guilt-free.Exactly, I just don't have the warm fuzzies that I'll get 6 years out of this MBP.
MarketStreet in Lynnfield Ma, and also the Apple store in Boston on Boylston StWhich store do you frequent?
I think we have to be real about how important Macs are to Apple and the corporations long term success. The revenue numbers speak a lot to priorities. Macs are less than 10% of the companies revenue, and some quarters as low as 6%. Services (iTunes, iCloud, TV , etc) is larger and growing.
I have had a couple good, long looks at the XPS 15" and really wanted to like it. Aside from the terrible location for the webcam, I was also not impressed with the display (too dim), the sound (muffled due to the speaker location) and how it throttles when on battery vs the MBP. Some other dislikes as well, but mostly aesthetics. I didn't like the thickness or the mixed materials look.
This is exactly right.....

The Lynnfield store lacks personality. But JP Licks is near by.MarketStreet in Lynnfield Ma, and also the Apple store in Boston on Boylston St
This may not be the answer you are hoping for, but maybe try installing the Mojave beta to see if you still have the screen issue. High Sierra has had a lot of video bugs, even on the most recent 10.13.6. I have issues with static on my 2017 MBP on wake, that goes away. It took three computers for engineering to acknowledge that this was a software issue, not hardware.High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G65)
Why?
Why are you trapping yourself in the IOS/Xcode camp? There are several alternative frameworks that can let you develop and run on IOS and Android to increase sales and get products to end users on both platforms faster. Check out Native Script, React native, Xamarin, or Flutter.
I have tried them. You still need a Mac for debugging on the simulator, they are not 100% Mac Free.
In addition, I feel pure native apps give the best experience...

It's a shame some stores appear to be like that. I have always had good experiences with the stores near me to date, with only a couple of exceptions. Even in those cases, you receive those emails asking how your experience was and if I make a negative comment about a particular visit, I always get a call from the manager as a follow up. Overall though, very good experiences with the 2 stores near me. It seems to not be the case with all of them however.
