What's the deal with the power cable being removed from the box? By that i mean what does that actually mean? Surely they include a cable for wall charging it, right?
The new apple which is pretty petty. Remember they don't include any sort of dongle which would have been a nice move on their part.

That is a heck of a price ? Did you get that from Lenovo direct ? I was looking at the Costco version for $1499 but your deal is way better.

Lenovo is showing your deal for $2200, did you find some stackable coupons?

Use BeFrugal rebate site.

Then...

Follow the Lenovo 13% casback link.

I got the ready to ship student bundle, $2200 (Ready to ship) and then used the THINKSCHOOL coupon and also get 13% cash back buy going through Befrugals site.

Profit

Man is it heartbreaking to see all the amazing options and choices available on the ThinkPads.

It kills me that I'm so tied to and prefer macOS because I completely prefer the hardware on those ThinkPads.

God I wish they'd let macOS work (natively - non Hackintosh) on any hardware..
sigh..

Have to agree. I've always loved Thinkpads. Had a few when IBM made them. Well built machines that were tough and reliable. Lenovo isn't IBM, but their newer machines look really appealing. I really like the Thinkpad P52 and P72. If Apple doesn't get their act together regarding their pro lines, I might pick up the updated P53 or P73 next year. I love MacOS but I can live with Win10 if it means I get better performance.

Apple has never been about hardware customization.

The MBPs have the latest processors, 32GBs of RAM, plus whatever else you want.

You could literally have made the exact same argument in 2006, 2009, 2012 and 2015. What’s changed?

Absolutely awful and in my opinion, one of the top three problems with Apple. I am referring to the issue at the store and not your machine. We know there are machine and keyboard issues.

It’s just inexcusable to even wait in line 1.5 hours, to say nothing of a repair backlog. The Apple stores are atrocious—I’ve had similar wait time problems myself, as I assume many in these forums have had. Getting help from someone is nigh impossible and there is absolutely no order to the stores and where you have to go to get what you need. This is Angela Ahrnt’s department and she needs to fix it or Cook needs to launch her.

Going to the Apple store used to be a fun experience. I live less than a mile from a store and now would rather just order online.

Then again: I remember waiting for maybe 40 mins at the Grand Central Genius bar in 2012, 20 mins at a random SF store in 2013 and then 1 hour at a PACKED Lincoln Road Miami Beach store in 2015, and maybe 10 mins at the Sao Paulo Brazil store this year to walk off with a brand new iPhone in time for lunch?

This is a solid case of YMMV, but 100% of the time you’re guaranteed to have a new device at the end of the hour or so or a deadline to have it fixed, and Apple is still the best in business at this. Would you rather send your Samsung off to a depot in Nowhere, AK and wait 30 days to see if there’s a chance it will come back?

Well - Except for Dell with their premium support and onsite hardware repair.

That's a big plus for anyone who's busy or whose time is valuable and can't be bothered wasting it going to/from/at Apple Stores.

Maybe not a Samsung product, but my understanding is if you buy a Dell, the repair guy comes to your home next day or they overnight you a replacement.

If you buy a Dell, does it come for free with onsite support?

Premium support does - In my mind I was comparing that to someone who buys Apple's "premium support" (AppleCare)

Neither Apple or Dell (or others) have onsite support for free.

Having to go to an Apple store is a nice middle ground to have as an option, no question...but for a busy professional, it's hard to beat on-site premium support.

I would have preferred to have the MBP 13” & AppleCare+ Over the Lenovo.

The Apple stores are overrun by iOS users these days. Typical stores have very limited OSX repair staff on hand due to this being the reality of things.

Unfortunately, it seems that Apple like most other companies now routinely fight repairs and place the blame back on the consumer with any claim they can. (Water damage, Non authorized cables and or chargers, Etc)

Pricing and premium was part of the security and trust between Apple and their consumers.

This is what irritates me most about what they have become.

Apple was the company I could go to for help. They treated the customer as if they were right and golden.

Here’s one example...

Does anyone here remember getting a $200 credit for the first iPhone? This was done because they needed to be more competitive with pricing due to slower than expected sales. Ask yourself, would this Apple do this today? Apple giving back to every adopter the credit because of their miscalculation?

These days are gone and those of us long term users that have seen the change have become completely turned off.

All this being said, I would still have preferred the 13” MBP but I needed something today.

Kennel Panics
Throttling (Just patches not fixed) See Bootcamp as the example.
Pricing
And most of all....
Arrogance!

These things need to be addressed immediately.

I’m sure I will have another MBP or Apple laptop soon enough.

As for today...

No sale Apple!

So then why does Apple offer different CPU's, GPU's, RAM and SSD sizes? Isn't that hardware customization? Why can't I want a little more options?

The new MBP's don't have whatever else we want. dGPU is a big letdown. If you're into game development or 3D/VFX, it's not a great GPU compared to other laptops that are much cheaper.

Just because Apple's been doing it for years, doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about it.

I think this is mostly something power users care about. While the vast majority of Apple purchasers don't really need or care about it. Which is fine. I love Apple, but I don't think Apple is some godlike perfect company. I just wish they were better at doing certain things. Especially for the price I'm paying for their products.

So what other gpu is that much better at the same 35 watts? They can't just put 1060 there or probably even 1050 ti without changing the chassis and adding more fan noise.

So I agree with your statement that Apple stores are typically filled with predominantly iOS users, but honestly this is no surprise, because the average individual these days does most everything on their phone, from getting directions, paying bills and managing finances, for taking photos, and for so many other things. In many ways most people don't need or won't buy computers for personal use anymore, so that means the stores will fill up with more iOS users than those who use MacBooks.

Also, I don't really see how Apple is any different today than they were before about fighting repairs. I mean the most obvious one, "you're holding it wrong" on the iPhone 4? Of course any manufacturer is going to try and push back at first, as they are in the business of making money. They are not going to want to give handouts or free repairs until it is proven they are at fault in their design of their product.

Simply put, I don't agree with looking through rose-colored glasses about how Apple used to be. They are who they are now, and whether people see that as a good thing or not is their prerogative. Ultimately Apple still has some of the best and most secure products, and still delivers good, reasonable customer service for a company of their size and relevance.

They can put a 1060 in the MBP if they didn't make it so thin. There are a lot of manufacturers using innovative cooling systems to get Hexacore CPU's and even an Nvidia 1070 Max-Q in a thinner design. I don't think there are any manufacturer's using the 35 watt Radeon Pro's in their laptops. I don't think it's because Apple has some exclusive rights. It's most likely because the chip doesn't offer much of a benefit when they can use better GPU's in their machines.

No one is saying the Radeon Pro is useless. I certainly appreciate having it over just having Intel's iGPU offerings. However, for the price we pay for MBP's (which is certainly a lot), I don't think it's wrong to ask Apple to put in the best CPU and GPU in their machines. If they weren't so obsessed with thin and light, they probably wouldn't be so constrained with what they can offer as options.

Apple's painted itself into a corner with the Mac with a single point of focus, net result everything is compromised for the sake of it...
