Naw, I'm 100% confident in saying the vast majority of people do not care about phone specs.

XR is 1792p.

Yes, 1792 is not 1920, is it?

When it comes to myself I'm not talking as the "vast majority of people" but as a discerning nerd who wants native 1080p and 3D Touch for this ridiculous price point (disclaimer: I live in Germany and prices here are the bomb)

It doesn’t matter. That’s a company’s purpose — to sell you things.

And not make a fool out of itself.

Well, Apple got caught trottleling, and they had to fix this abuse.
So, of course people are going to keep their iPhones longer.

Ummm if you work in Apple Retail it was always your job to discuss benefits of an upgrade with a customer. The new phones are just better so that’s kind of an easy argument and thing for a customer to either agree with or not.

I said this to their face last month, my iPhone 7 died due to the Audio IC failure, which WAS identified as a manufacturing flaw and replaced out of warranty from May to July last year before being swept under the rug.

The “Genius” couldn’t wait to roll out the “softener” of £200 off an iPhone XR instead of paying £309 for a replacement iPhone 7 out of warranty.

They had no intention of actually helping me, and the Senior Advisor I spoke to on chat (via phone) when I got home basically said, “Tough”.

Yet, here I am like a mug with an iPhone XR but I got it via Sky Mobile for £27 per month.

Came here to trash this article, but pleased to see y'all have done it for me lol

BTW out of warranty doesn't have to be a 4-yr iPhone 6. It might as well be an iPhone 8 Plus whose owner didn't buy Apple Care. What's the added value of an XR compared to that?!

Retail is all about selling, no matter what fantasy Ahrendts tried to tell reporters. There's no story here.

The way this ‘scoop’ is written is garbage. Using phrases like “cut-price”? No one in the US uses phrasing like that. Also when has Apple ever run sales? I don’t remember the company doing it prior to Ahrendts joining. Seems to me Gurman is trying to weave two different stories together - Ahrendts leaving and issues with iPhone sales.

Apple's marketing department is truly amazing! They've been able to propagate this image of themselves nicely. Look, I 100% believe Apple makes better products, but they are and have always been a for-profit corporation beholden to shareholders.
Well they did for a very long time make products that lasted well beyond the warranty period. That's why I chose a MacBook Pro and ran Windows on it rather than by a PC laptop back around 2011 when I needed a laptop for light gaming. It is still going strong on the latest Mac OS . My sister-in-law still has my 6s plus. We had a 5s that died last year after years of daily use (battery swelled up and it pulled apart).

But some of their more recent products have had some problems well discussed here on MR .

There's nothing wrong with giving customers options. When I worked at Apple, we offered repair for customers who came in with old iPods and also told them about recycling it and getting a new iPod. It's up to the customer to make the decision. The sales person should only give the options.

Make sure you suggest upgrading to a new iPhone but don't mention battery replacement is available.

“We love the environment and are taking steps to reduce our impact.”

Also Apple,

“Buy a new phone every 12 months. Ignore the e-waste and negative effects of mining raw materials.”
Exactly

Oh it’s not... it’s giving the customer an option to upgrade. The customer doesn’t have to. See how simple that is.

This is a move for desperate retail stores on the verge of bankruptcy. Not a massive multinational making gobs of profit every quarter. Looking desperate does not garner confidence.

Oh no! Apple tries to sell iPhones. I guess this writer has never stepped into a car dealership or ordinary mall retail store.

I’ve never had the mechanic at a dealership try to sell me a new car when I came in for a repair. People have different expectations when talking with a salesperson and a technician.

The date on this ‘scoop’ is February 5. Why is MR just writing about it now?
