We'll have a 3K usd useless headset nobody wants, but no new monitor, no Mac Pro, no new iMac / iMac Pro. Apple, when did you send a memo you're becoming a gadget manufacturer? I've missed it I guess.
In 2001, with the release of the first iPod?

We know that it won’t be AR, but XR. Meaning the display won’t be transparent, and the outside view will instead be captured by cameras and mixed with content on the internal display.
We no nothing about this except what we have heard in rumors.

Price is more important going forward.

They will have to make cheaper product and slim down their expensive offerings...

Look at the immense changes that are all affecting their business: Manufacturing in China, 1. US tradewar.. 2. Pandemic effects.. 3. Taiwan becoming a hot potato geopolitically and threatening their CPU strategy..(Entire tech industry... Nvidia/AMD use TSMC aswell)

We do not know how much $$$ Apple has had to put down to secure their production the last 3 years... I would bet they are down billions.

We are looking at unprecedented challenges... Business is NOT as usual..

ALL that said...

Big changes require mobility and feelers for where things are headed... AR/VR IS a contender even though people think it isn`t mature... Which it isn`t ofc, because the majority of developers are not focusing on it. AND they are not focusing on it because the 800 pound gorilla isn`t focusing on it...

They should focus on it because I want to see NEW tech arise... I want a game where the objective is to clean my house...

I want an app that overlays designs on a white sheet of paper, I want Ai assisted design.

I want to see if there is any use of an Ai that helps organize my workshop and remembers where everything is. And I can ask it for something and it tells me where it is.

I want Apple to sell a "Build it yourself Mac" And I want Apple AR glasses to make the process of building it SIMPLE and idiot-proof WITH either Ai assistance and access to a person if there is something wrong AND have the entire build have Apple Care. 1 year free, 3 years with extended warranty.

AR IS A GAMECHANGER! It can be intregal for Apple to be able to sell Macs for cheaper and be infinitely expandable and repairable WHILE pushing the cost of assembly on the customer to be able to sell for cheaper. THINK IKEA of computers... Except not as crap hopefully...

People are already asking for modular macs... Give it to em.. Change with the times...

I want to see this concept model rendered on a 3D head model.
It makes no sense to me. How does mesh protruding 1cm from a 1cm thick aluminum device provide padding for a variety of face shapes?
How does wearing a helmet become a use case? I'm not riding a bike, I'm on the couch.....where I could just say....look at the TV

Honestly, the more I hear about the Apple AR/VR headset the more I lose interest and the more it doesn’t excite me anymore. I’d be happy if Apple focuses solely on current iOS, Mac OS, Watch OS, and so on.

I think Tim is desperate to come up with something -- anything -- that he can put his legacy on, even if he's delusional to think that this is it. He's really inspired nothing new in his entire tenure. (Yeah, I know. I've heard the Apple Watch argument, but glossed over is always the fact that this was in the early design phase before he took over).

Apple is desperate for a visionary. Think what it means when longtime fans such as yourself are thinking the best we can get out of this company is a better version of what they have.

The vision is gone. Tim longs for something he can call his own before riding off (deservedly) into the sunset...

More Apple product from a single source in China, great idea. What could possibly go wrong? ;)

All they need to do is run the factory for a couple of weeks and they will have enough supply until Ski Goggles 2 are released.

Tens of millions of people have found a use case for wearing a {VR} “helmet”. Please don’t quote me for your non sequiturs.

I know the same was said before the iPod and even the iPhone, but in this case I really wonder what the heck who is going to walk around with a head set?
That is not the purpose of this. It will be more of a home or office used device. The technology will filter to lightweight glasses with powerful pass through and overlay capabilities. This device is required as a stepping stone to achieve the real goal.

Tim Cook has no shame
Hopefully he will manage to unwedge his head from Xi's keister long enough to get fired

lol looks like the apple analysts are preparing the imaginary apple product to be delayed again due to "manufacturing problems".

When ai makes every frame of whatever you’re looking at look like this, I will.
I want to walk around in that world more than I care about how I look in this one.
Thank you for sharing the link, I watched … some … of it, but no thank you. I love this PF song, i grew up with it. Every time i listened to it, it conjured up different images in my mind … the reason why i never got tired of it. I enjoyed „to walk around in that“ my own world of musically induced imagination more than one flashed at me by randomly flickering meaningless A.I. generated visuals that have no harmony with music: A.trocious I.nterference to me. Yes, it is technologically clever, incredible, etc. but it has no soul … neither on a TV or computer screen, nor on mixed-reality glasses.

Yes, same re: echoes, bc there is only one visual I really ever needed to see, and that’s:

But as for the video, it really doesn’t require the audio & could be viewed silent or to any other 23 minute soundtrack, since as you say, it really has no correlation specific to echoes anyway. The visual moving image itself was the point I was making. Even at this very early stage, the ai demonstrates an ability to generate a huge amount of coherent stylized representations of naturalistic subject matter. It didn't vomit up a single frame of incomprehensible noise & static, and there are enough unique compositions in that single video to keep a surrealist painter busy for several lifetimes.

When XR glasses are well done, they will offer a new way to see the world we’re used to looking at with our limited eyesight. Whether heavily simplified into wireframe, or shaded, shaded with edges, or stylised raster pixel art (“I want to see the world as a Monet/Rembrandt/Rivera today”), or a wide angle & enhanced-spectrum camera-view. …& overlaid with annoying info annotations, advertisements, and thought-police monitoring no doubt. But the ultimate use of these things is in picking up where eyeglass technology left off, enhancing our vision & tailoring it beyond our primary biological experience.

& sure, in the mean time the kids will play their active shooter fantasies out on them.
