If MLB is any indication I hope they don’t get it, because I actually like football. I didn’t think baseball could get any worse and then I saw Apple take a crack at it.
In terms of streaming quality, presentation and on screen graphics it is top notch, but their announcers are horrible, which makes for a bad product. That would be easy to fix for football. I could also see them get interactive with some of the stats overlays, etc... at least on the AppleTV. It looks like it is made to do that currently.

Agreed, the broadcasting is horrible. They haven't included anything different in their broadcasts and especially with baseball there is so much dead time to do different things.

They wouldn't pick their broadcasting teams, that's done by the network that has the rights to the game (along with the nfl of course)

Edit - But yes they could do a lot more with draftings, stats, odds, etc on the AppleTv. They should be doing things like that with baseball too.

Apples Disaster with baseball, Watched cards cubs last night and had to turn the sound OFF because
Melanie Newman and Chris Young are AWFUL!!!!
If the incompetent people that selected them are involved, they are doomed.
The Cards forum was all over how awful they were to listen to.
Never again, I'll listen to the local delay on the radio or music before I ever listen to those Boobs again.
Stink is to nice a word for that nightmare.

I think the NFL is going to be an add-on, it's too valuable to be in the same basic price, the hike would be steep.

I don't think it will affect users from outside the US as internationally the NFL has its own streaming service, the NFL Game Pass International, which is absolutely awesome.
If appletv + sports is an add on then it makes sense but we are then in the realm of individual territories negotiating different content deals - hard to see how the messaging on price translates. What if they roll it into top tier apple one premium subscription?

I think there was a rumor a while back that Apple is trying to get the ability for customers to be able to subscribe to the service per team. That would be ideal for me. I live in Raleigh, NC but I am a Washington Commanders fan. So really I don’t care about the games for other teams. Sadly in my market, the Panthers get priority for local broadcasts. But I don’t need to pay $300 or whatever it is so I can watch others teams I couldn’t care less about.

Depends what they charge per team though. MLB.tv for instance was $129.99 for the season for every team or $109.99 for a single team. It really makes no sense to take the single team option there.

My friend was trying to cancel his nfl rewind account. They auto renew soon. He found a number, called them and they said they don’t have any account under his email address that he’s signed into. o_O

I think Sunday Ticket and Apple would be a good fit.

When Sunday Ticket first came about it was just about impossible to follow an out of market NFL team. Technical constraints limited the amount and quality of content that could be delivered to the viewer. Smaller dish satellite services were a new technology that made it so viewers could view the games they wanted.

It was a combination of a product (NFL) and a delivery method (DirecTV) that grew both business well. DTV grew and obtained a great deal of subscribers due to exclusive content and more people had greater access to NFL content, which drove growth and revenue in other areas (not just advertising, but merchandise, etc). I remember the sports bar aspect of Sunday Ticket was HUGE back in my 30's. Not a bar guy anymore, so anyhoo.

Fast forward to 2022 and we have a something similar. Streaming services are the delivery method of the day now. Almost everyone has a smart phone or a streaming box and internet access. The DirecTV model is really outdated for everyone but DirecTV and those people in rural areas underserved by broadband. The rural part of the package is going to be interesting if Apple wins the bid. Rural is an important part of Sunday Ticket and DirecTV is a link in that chain.

The whole idea has a lot of potential. Apple has the bucket 'O money to pull it off on both ends, but I feel for the rural people though. Where I live is only 20 miles from one of the US' major metro areas. I have 2 broadband options where I live (Xfinity and Fios) plus 5g C band service on my doorstep.

If I drive a half hour southwest, the only thing a lot of folks can get is satellite "broadband" which really isn't broadband by anyone's estimation. Football is a big deal there, and I hope those folks don't get frozen out by no fault of their own.

Myself, I don't really care for sports anymore. I'll see the scores on TV and watch the home team if the make it to the selective sudden death elimination rounds at the end of the season, but other than that I couldn't be bothered. Just too much more than actual sports going on anymore...

Why, what happened to baseball?
The baseball itself was same as always but the announcers are….bad. I don’t like not being able to DVR it. The very first game the graphics were all too Apple, as in I don’t even know what the score is because showing information distracts from your content right. They seem to have fixed that now.

And the least valued NFL team is worth 1.4 billion, and the most valued 4 billion; and there's 32 teams.
4.65 Billion - Denver Broncos

The streaming quality was actually not great for me either, it buffered way too much. And it’s not my connection, everything else streams full quality all the time, but the MLB stream seemed to take a good long while to catch up.

The general consensus (and my feeling as well) is that the graphics and camera work are the best in baseball, but the commentary is lousy.
Very true the commentary is trash, maybe they'll stick a deal with NFL and keep it the way it is now CBS / FOX etc the graphic an camera is really well done

4.65 Billion - Denver Broncos

Official valuations: Dallas Cowboys - 4 billion. Prior to this sale agreement, Broncos were at 3.75. Once the sale is finalized all values are expected to jump at a level of 12% minimum.

Maybe it's just the cynical me, I use to love watching sports. With the exception of hockey I couldn't care less about any of the major leagues here in the States.
Thanks for letting us know about your sports preferences (even if it has NOTHING to do with this thread). BTW, I love football and absolutely hate hockey. Hockey should be outlawed.

This re valuations will go up due to Denver going for close to $1B more than previous valuation.

Cowboys, pre Denver sale was $6.5B
