I'll be laughing all the way to a non-Apple phone. If I have to put up with a giant screen, I won't be paying the premium Apple commands any longer.

Well, you wouldn't be the only one - which is why I'm sure Apple will keep the current size as an alternative to the larger phone.

Apple Reportedly Developing iPhones with Large Curved Screens for 2014, Enhan...

That's fine, as long as the different sizes are more or less the same otherwise.

I'm guessing they'd retain pretty much exactly the same form factor for the 4" phone as they have now. While going x 1,27 for the larger phone, meaning the same number of icons on the screen but with iPad Mini size, retaining the current PPI. Such a phone would be ~5" and maybe have rounded back edges like the iPads, to make them more comfortable to hold.

"what's the point with curved glass?"

First of all, I think curved glass and screen technology is a big leap forward cause it shows the next step of durability. Having a screen that is bendable makes it much more durable and resilient.

It does not mean the screen HAVE to be curved though, but that it surely would take a beating better than anything not bendable.

But there is actually another benefit of a curved screen. When dropped it wont land flat on its screen. Meaning it is further protected from damage!

Then there might be some ergonomics to it.

Ok, I have both iPhone 4 and a Galaxy S4. Writing with Galaxy now. A bigger screen like S4 is strange at beginning and not so comfortable to handle, but when you manage to use it, you don't want to go back to a smaller screen.

And just have in mind about 5" screen:
1) Yes, you can put it in your jeans front pocket.
2) Yes, you can use it with one hand (but not so comfortable)

Finally, imo:
1) Galaxy S4 screen size is great.
2) Galaxy Note screen size is too big.
3) Choice is always good.
4) Apple, go go go for a bigger screen!

PS:Sorry for my english. It is not native.

This is o funny. People want Apple to innovate and think outside of the box all the time but dismiss everything that doesn't make sense to them right away.

Apple has several times stated that a phone is a one hand device and that they are not willing to create a bigger screen phone when the trade off is no one handed usage.

It's not that I or Apple don't like a bigger screen. It's that the bigger screen causes usability issues for a lot of people, including me. So what if they have come up with someway to make bigger screen phone without sacrificing the the usability issue?

Try to not see this as a gimmick but as some way to solve problems out side the box that defines a phone as a phone looks like today.

5" display doesn't make a phone, it makes an unwieldy device that just isn't needed.

Typically; people want a device which is between a mobile & a tablet because they do not understand the purpose of the individual device.

They are separate for separate reasons, not marketing or coincidence.

Am I the only one who things the Samsung model is too big for a smart phone? I find it awkward, don't really want an iPhone in that size.

To be fair, that Samsung phone is a bit of a niche product that is meant to be used as a tablet just as much as a phone.
When we got to choose new phones at work I chose the Galaxy Note II because I never make or receive phone calls on my work phone and rather wanted a tablet or tablet like device suitable for browsing. I wouldn't have gotten the Note II to actually use as a phone.
It's nice though, like an ultra-portable tablet.

I still don't understand the need for huge screens on a phone. Portability is more important to me and truly every time I see someone holding the SG Note, I laugh at the ridiculously huge phone covering 80% of his/her face.
When I had my note 2 people use to laugh. Then those same people lauging have notes now. If you get a bluetooth ear peice it solves the problem.

As long as it's curved like the iPod Nano 5th generation (but with a bezel-free screen) I think this might be OK.

I can't stand large screens on a mobile, phones should look like phones, not tablets. I would much prefer a smaller device... perhaps an iPhone Nano.

what's the point of a curved screen? Larger screen? I can see that, but do not understand what a curved screen is for.

I am wondering the same thing. Follow the contours of your butt when kept in your hip-pocket?

Friend came back from Malaysia last week and said it was hilarious how everybody had massive phones and looked like they were holding iPads to their ears during phone calls.

How does a curved screen help anyone with anything?

I read it as it curves at the edges. So I'm seeing an iPhone with a flat screen that only curves at the edges. Watching shows and playing games may cause problems with a fully curved screen.

Having used an iPhone 5 for a year, and otherwise loving the phone, I think the current 4" screens are almost exactly the wrong size: a bit to big to use comfortably with one-hand, some advantages in terms of screen real estate compared to 3.5" but nothing like those offered by some of the larger-screen Android phones. My vote: either 3.5 or 5.0 but not something in the middle.

See that makes a lot more sense, though I think that Apple's current lineup (iPhone, iPad Mini and iPad Air) probably has the right range of sizes to cover it.

I mean, I was shocked to see Apple actually providing more than one iPhone model; not that it doesn't make sense, but they've been so reluctantly thus far to do it that I wasn't expecting it. I think it's best to keep the actual iPhone phone-sized though.

Maybe if they brought back the Newton name, but I don't see Apple doing a Note II sized device. I suppose that does mean people have a harder choice between phone and tablet, but I think the line-up accommodates people reasonably well as it is.

Why do you need to use your phone with one hand? Is your other hand busy doing something else?

I would love a larger screen on the next iPhone. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, plus the extra screen real-estate would be nice.

Curved glass? I just don't see how that will enhance the end user experience.

I get why Apple focussed on one-handed use when they designed the the iPhone, but seriously, how often do people use it one-handed? (I'm just asking here) I find I nearly always use two hands.

I tried my nephew's Galaxy S3 a year or so back. I was not fussy on the hardware or Android, but I liked the size better than my iPhone and to my surprise, it went in and out of my pocket just fine. I was expecting it to be uncomfortable in my pocket, but it wasn't.

I think that Apple is leaving a ton of money on the table by not making a larger screen phone. I know many people who would jump from their Android device to the iPhone in a heartbeat if it only had a larger screen.

So, out of curiosity, how often do you guys use your iPhone one-handed? Always? Most of the time? Some of the time? Rarely at all? Never?
