Moto-X was perfect for the short duration I had (2.57 x 5.09 x 0.41).

Exactly. Those who are worried about 4.7 being too big need to hold the Moto X. It is as close to the perfect size and shape of any phone that I've seen. If the iPhone 6 could have similar dimensions, it's more screen with no compromises. My only concern is the physical home button. If side the bezels are reduced or eliminated, big top and bottom bezels will make it too tall and awkward - like the Nexus 7.

I hope it's sooner than the fall.

Personally, I'll have to see them and feel one before I buy the huge one. Seeing some of the larger Android phones in the wild some just look too big to be really portable. Obviously Apple needs to respond with a bigger phone, but just not sure if it's for me.

I agree with you, that's what should happen. But this article is suggesting that Apple plan to do away with the 5c completely and make the 5s (or some derivative) the entry-level device.

I think this article is mostly BS. It says Apple will keep the 5S but build it with cheaper materials. Isn't that basically a 5S in 5C clothing? No way is Apple going to keep the 5S name but change the design. Once they change the design it's no longer a 5S.

As others have stated, hopefully they give us a choice. Pretty sure I don't want a phone that big. It doesn't matter how thin or light it is if the other dimensions get too large. Eventually you hit a size of diminishing returns. Would you want to carry around a phone that was the dimensions of a letter size sheet of paper?? It is extremely light and thin!!! ;)

After using iPhone 5 (4") since it's launch and now Nexus 5 (5") for a month, I'm leaning towards idea that I want something in the middle. 4,5-4,7'' sounds about right, especially if the bezels are very minimal.

they are called iPads and people carry them around all the time

If this is true, I may have to hang on to my iPhone 5S for an extra year, and hope that sanity returns by the iPhone 7. If you want a large screen, for the love of Mike, get an iPad.

And no, I'm not saying Apple shouldn't produce larger screened phones for the no taste people out there, but please keep making a 4" phone with the top of the line components every year.

Do any women work at Apple? Have you tried putting a 5" phone in the pocket of women's designer jeans? The current one can barely, barely fit. The 3.5 model was much better. That's half your customer base right there!!!

Please, Apple, step back from the cliff before it is too late!

Most women i know put there iphones in the purse or handbag they carry.

4.7" bezel free, so:
-> 16/9 means that it's diagonal is 18.357559750685...
-> 4.7 : 18.35... = x : 9
-> x = 2.30423"
-> 4.7 : 18.35... = y : 16
-> y = 4.09641"
actually iPhone 5S is 2.31" in width and 4.87" in height. If it's bezel free, dimensions should be almost the same. It makes sense to me.

The ONLY way I would get a larger screen iPhone is if the phone itself isn't any larger (or marginally larger) and it was still retina quality (not just ppi but also viewing angle and ability to see in sunlight, both of which are excellent on the current iPhones and pretty terrible on larger phones I've had a chance to play around with).

It looks like the most reasonable rumor is the 4.7 phone. I'm betting the mythical iPhablet 5.7 is probably an iPad variant and not an iPhone.

I don't get the obsession Apple has with these screens that crack so easily. Just to have something that scratch resistant. Frankly I'd rather have an impact resistant polycarbonate screen. Then protect it from scratching with disposable $0.50 screen protectors.

Having a scratch resistant screen is useless anyways. As I'm going to still put a screen protector on it. If anything so that I can have a non reflective matte finish.

The glass wouldn't be so bad. If they didn't glue the glass to the LCD. Making a $5 replacement part a $70 replacement part.

Why do you use a screen protector? The screens dont scratch.

As a woman who owns many pairs of designer jeans and has friends who do also, not a single one of us has any interest in putting our phone in our pocket. Who does that :confused: Definitely more of a guy thing.

Looking forward to seeing what Apple has in store for iPhone 6...the larger screen is a good step in the right direction. Finally.

Every girl from 13 to 25 puts their phone in their back jeans pocket.

Quadruple the iPhone 5 Resolution Again

I think the most elegant way to handle these new larger screen sizes is to quadruple the resolution again - like they did with the iPhone 4 (double resolution in each direction). I'll leave it as an exercise to another commenter with more time than me to hash out the PPI, but I think it's somewhere in the range of low 500s for the 4.7". The larger 5.5" (if there is one) would simply use the same resolution at a lower PPI (just like the difference between an iPad and iPad Mini).

As a customer, how will I ever decide which screen size to choose?

I don't really like the idea. I'd prefer Apple picked the best size for me. I know that sound weird. I think it will be a very tough decision though and don't really want to deal with it.

I think it could lead to people waiting rather than feeling they "have" to upgrade immediately.

I wouldn't mind the 4.7" iPhone as long as the phone itself isn't much larger than the current 5S. No way I'd carry around a giant 5.5" phone though. No interest in that at all. But for those who want something that size, I have no problem with Apple offering something to appease those consumers as well.

the best thing about this rumor if true, is there will not be large lineups unless the sheep who dont want it still get one

lmao oh there will be lines. Apple is gonna make the phone look very attractive, as they always do.

Apple's marketing, beauty, commercials etc etc will be more than enough to make people want it.

as long as it's lightweight and pretty, it will sell.

That would be such a horrible product, I doubt you would actually buy it after trying it. Many people can use the iPhone without a case or screen protector and not damage it, so I'm not sure what you're doing wrong. If you want your iPhone looking and feeling like a Fisher Price toy, that's your prerogative, but please don't suggest they start that way.

It's not just an iPhone. It's an iPhablet.

Just a wild thought: What if the 5.5'' is an iPad nano and not an iPhone?

But realistically I hope the 5.5'' is just a prototype that will never make it into a product.

As many others commented, I see a 4.7'' more likely. I remember seeing other phones at this size and it just feels more like something Apple would do.

A 5.5'' iPhone? I really can't imagine that for the time being. It would look like the EOL 17'' Macbooks, huge and too bulky compared to most other Apple products (where thin, flat and small is in).

Also, developers would have to think about even more sizes in the future. Apple usually likes to keep things simple.
