Literal Steve Jobs rolling right now

I'll just leave this here

WE pay a premium to have a premium experience. It’s not like we paid $300 for a budget android phone. But something as expensive should never include Ads on its Core Apps. Unless they plan on bringing Apple TV free with Ads. But Maps should always remain Ad Free.
I Pay for Apple Music because it’s a service that needs to pay to license people’s music.

It's pretty obvious we reached Peak Apple around 2022.

Now we are regressing. The whole CSAM thing, shovelling money to Trump, the whole Apple Intelligence debacle, the fad Vision Pro and iPhone Air, liquid glass and now the idea of shovelling ads into stuff.

"Peak Apple" is always a good way to tell people your age without telling people your age.

The best way forward is to split Apple into eras:
  1. Jobs #1.
  2. Wilderness.
  3. Jobs #2.
  4. Cook.
And honestly, I can easily give you Peak Apple for #1, #2, and #3. But I just don't know what it is for #4. I can think of times like the launch of the Apple Watch, but S0 was so flawed and took literally years to become mature. Ditto Apple Vision (if you Google it, the top results mostly involve words like "fail").

I think the Cook era has been... Chequered. A curate's egg. Certainly interesting times.

Profits wise, it's been insane. Product wise... Ah, it's not anywhere near as clear-cut. Arguably, you could say that it was Ive who did much of the heavy lifting. But I suppose kudos to Cook for keeping the boat sailing for so long, and so well. Others could've just sunk it by their arrogance, as in the Wilderness era.

The one selling point Apple had is slowly going away because of bean counter Cook. Next step monetizing your data like Google and Meta because of the ideology of having to grow forever which in reality is not possible. This will lead to the opposite long term. Success/growth happens with a time lag. The success of the Jobs era and its aftermath has made Apple into one of the most valuable companies. The management failures of recent years will affect the future. The first signs are already visible that Apple is struggling in many areas but the brand is still strong so profits are good for now. Lets see for how long.

Ads are lame. No one wants this. But also, Gurman hasnt been accurate lately. So dont believe what he says. Hes been wrong about things since june. Hes all talk no action. LIES LIES LIES

I’ve already switched to other apps for podcasts, ebooks, translation, music, photos, and my calendar. I guess maps are next. Apple’s apps have gotten so bad and outdated (and Apple Intelligence, which is supposed to be new, is already a disaster) that I honestly don’t know why I’m still using any of them. This is probably my last iPhone. I’ve kept it for the ecosystem, but even syncing doesn’t work right anymore, and since the EU doesn’t allow mirroring with the Mac, the whole thing is just clunky and embarrassing now... what a waste of a once great brand

Thank you. That’s the most sensible post I’ve seen on this topic for months.

Both have paid ads in them. 🤣
Exactly. The point of using Apple Maps, for me at least, is that it is ad-free, despite being slightly inferior to alternatives. With ads, what’s differentiating it from those alternatives? May as well switch back to the superior product, since being ad-free is no longer a selling point.
