Perhaps I used the wrong word - I ment I hope it's an opportunity to do something a bit more innovative than just a "bigger" iPad with iPadOS.
  • removing the back camera and use the space for something else
  • ability to use multiple pencils at once (e.g. whiteboard)
  • 16" actually foldable, so you can use it as sort of two regular ipads pasted together
Remove the camera? Why on earth? It’s exceptional useful and a massive differentiator over a traditional computer. Room scanning, 3d scanning, document scanning… I would hope they would never remove it.

I agree though, a redesign of sorts is probably coming. I just really love this current design though.

issue is no doubt this will be more than the macbook pro 16 inch given cost of a MK. Im curious to see why people want this.
Everyone seems to be forgetting that you do not have to buy a Magic Keyboard as there other, cheaper alternatives on the market. Indeed, if one is skilled at typing on glass (as many in the upcoming generation are — and very much so) they might not need an external keyboard at all (especially on a 16” screen).

As a touch typist, once I got used to the idea of NOT resting my fingers on home row, I was good.

Wasn’t the original concept of the iPad suppose to provide a small hand held unit? They are growing in screen size to where the original concept has been lost. What next? When I want my MacPro I keep it on my desk. When I want my iPad I keep it in my hand. When I want my iPhone it’s in my pocket.

Yes, and they have that for those that still want that. I don’t think they’ll ever have a time where there’s not one that’s still hand held. They’re growing in size particularly for those that like the way the iPad works, and want a bigger area to work with, which is fine. For those people that don’t want a bigger iPad, my thinking is this product wouldn’t interest them at all.

I don’t think the concept is changing, there are still smaller sizes. But a bigger size will benefit some folks such as me.

A 16in. iPad is certainly doable, but I think it would likely be a niche device that would appeal to few people. If Apple is seriously considering it then they must be convinced there is a sufficient worthwhile market for it.

Seems to be targeted towards artists/creators like myself. I sidecar Adobe programs to my 12.9inch model and would love extra space. I also had a 22inch Wacom Cintiq and it was tough to use its blurry low res screen after using an iPad Pro for so long. So a bigger screened iPad Pro is might appealing. The cost might be tough to swallow though.

This will be the ultimate secondary display for Mac. Notice how I said it wouldn't be more productive on it's own? Apple really needs to converge MacOS and iPad OS.

Thankfully Apple became the most valuable company in the world by ignoring ideas lie yours

The only iPads I ended up owning were the 12.9” variety and they have proven to be solid workhorses + media consumption marvels.
Cannot wait for the 16” one.
Instant purchase for sure.

You’re right. Nothing should change. Just keep it the way it was originally conceived.

Wouldn't you just buy a laptop at this point? I mean how much larger can an Ipad get before you are basically buying a laptop. An Ipad was supposed to be a tablet, a note taking and reading device. Now I'm thinking about maybe getting one to upgrade my 2015 and I'm confused on what they are offering. I don't need or want a big one. I want an actual Ipad and maybe recommendations on good books I can get back into because I don't read (Sci Fi, Action Thrillers, and maybe mysteries are probably my favorite genres).

There’s always a rebound by some to believe a perfect, do-it-all gadget can emerge.

Apple consumers are surely among the most dissatisfied tech users. Every new product is subjected to complaints and predictions of market failure. Every tweak in the OS is not enough, too little too late. The most recent product release (Apple Watch Ultra) was met with Marxist claims of extortion in pricing (even after it fell to $800). Apple is “greedy” more than a few say. Oh and my fave was that the “Ultra” design was “Fugly” by juvenile posters. There is no “perfect, do it all gadget” (as I suspect you know). Apple became the most prosperous company in the world by ignoring most of their customers and their bad ideas.

A 7 year old iPad is two generations back. By next year it will be three generations removed from the coming M2/iPad . The 2015 iPad is a relic of the past. You don’t need an iPad to read books. Get a kindle right now. Sci Fi Recommendation. “The Three Body Problem”.
