A Mac iPad will overheat more than a MacBook Air for the following reasons:The M2 Macbook Air 2022 doesn't even have USE its metal body for heat dissipation so being this will unlikely cause any SEVERE throttling (significantly more than in the M2 Macbook Air)
personally I wouldn't run anything very demanding on MacOS on Ipad, mainly Chrome with extensions, full Office and Whatsapp desktop, if Surface pros can run Windows on Arm and even full Windows, some M3 iPad pro on 3nm will be able to run MacOS probably as good as a M1 MacBook air.A Mac iPad will overheat more than a MacBook Air for the following reasons:
The iPad is thinner than the MacBook.
The iPad has a heat generating screen, the Mac has a keyboard that heat can escape through.
The Mac has large vents on the bottom sides which, the iPad doesn't.
The MacBook has a screen hinge heat can escape through, the iPad doesn't.
MacOS is more demanding, and therefore generates more heat.
Users who want MacOS on an iPad will be using more demanding and heat-generating Mac software.
Running MacOS on the iPad means reduced performance compared to a MacBook Air with the same chip. Its already easy to anticipate the complaint-hashtags.

PS having said that I would primarily use a 16 iPad on iPadOS and would buy it regardless of the fact that it has or not MacOS as an option
And my Surface Pro--a 7th gen with a mid-range i5--gets very warm under light loads. The Surface Pro has a fan and vents; the iPad has neither.
I agree with all of these and it’s an acceptable tradeoff.A Mac iPad will overheat more than a MacBook Air for the following reasons:

And for a screen that large, you'll need at least two of those!I wonder how much the cleaning cloth will be
Why would any one want a 16 inch ipad?
The only reason i can think of is someone who draws on the iPad, and I am only guessing if he is a "pro" he would rather work on a full fledge app on the computer
Because using macOS with your finger or a pencil is just so much better than a keyboard and mouse? If they finally suck it up and put macOS on it, I will buy it SO FAST.

The Microsoft site pretty much only shows it being used for drawing, which is exactly what MacBH928 stated. What are the other advantages of the Surface Studio 2?Check "Microsoft Surface Studio 2" and you will see what you can do with bigger tablet.
take my money now !
$1500Hopefully it will come with wheels for easier mobility.
Yea have we evolved from the phablet to the tabtop? Why would any one want a 16 inch ipad?

You’re very likely right. But keep in mind that the youngest kids are using touch-first devices more and more. So medium to long term it is an investment to have an OS and a platform already in place for more advanced tasks than watching YouTube. I hope iPadOS evolves to meet those kids needs in the future. I don’t think they care about the Mac, Windows, or any other desktop OS.While I think this will certainly sell, I am afraid it may have the same niche community that the iPhone Mini had (sorry to those who are a part of that). The cost is going to be insane, the accessories to use this size iPad are going to be pricey, sure 3rd party companies will come out with their versions, but looking at it from a grand total perspective.
Then even if a Mac OS is designed that pleases Apple for iPad comes out going back to the price of it the majority of consumers will not go for that compared to a Mac. The amount of people who want this huge iPad I personally feel is a minority as outside of this forums and myself, most of the people I know who even own a tablet own the 11" iPad or smaller (or other company variant of similar size)
That is very true, but since this is technology we are talking about so at what point would getting a 16" iPad be a long term investment for kids. I have a young child currently (nearing 3) and she uses a iPad mini to watch her shows and all, as an experiment in the past I let her use a 11" iPad I previously had to watch her shows then introduced the mini and she instantly went to the mini. Now I know that my child is very young (you did say youngest of kids), but she went to the mini because she could handle it better, even at her age she chose something more manageable then a bigger screen, and even when I have my 12.9" iPad around she doesn't mess with it because it is just large already. You’re very likely right. I don’t see them as merging from the back end. I DO expect that macOS will start to look more like iPadOS simply because there will be more folks familiar with iPadOS than macOS, so “looking like the iPad” would be a desired feature.Ive seen over the last couple of years MacOS and iPadOS starting to merge. I think in the near future will will have 1 OS on all devices. Except iOS of course. Similar hardware architecture, Similar features. The gap between iPad and a Mac is starting to look a lot smaller.
