Waiting for USB-C on AirPods Max and MagSafe Battery Pack to finally pick those up. USB-C on the AirPods Pros might get me to consider those in the meantime.

packing into a box, print a useless label, put in a gas car driving to UPS, sorted into a UPS truck that's headed to a plane that uses tons of jet fuel, onto another truck to a UPS center, sorted to another gas guzzling truck.

wow, very environmentally friendly.
So now making sure your old phone is put to use for it's entire lifespan is also an environmental disaster? Because shipping labels? No you're actually right, the best thing for the environment would be if human civilisation ceased to exist. If you keep arguing this point that's where you'll eventually end up. I don't think anything is ok in your book.

What?

Changing the argument from "selling your lightning cables" to "just keep your phone for the sake of reusing lightning".

I’m sure the EU already have a recycling plan in place across all member countries to deal with the discarded cables (since the idea WAS environment related). I’m not in the EU, but I assume their social media messaging campaign must be wide reaching!
Won't Apple recycle cables you bring them?

Or just post on your local community group that you are giving away your Lightning cables, someone will want them.

For relatively small things like AirPods cases and Apple TV remotes, Apple should offer a trade-in / trade-up program to upgrade to the USB-C equivalent for a reasonable fee. This way Apple can refurbish/recycle the underlying electronics and batteries and save it from become ewaste. For example, I don't need a new AppleTV remote, and paying $60 for a new one is absurd. But I'd pay up to $20 to swap my Lightning one for a USB-C one.

So why don't you go wireless directly if you're so against USB-C? Nobody told you that you have to use the physical port.
me *personally* or are you talking about Apple?

what I do *personally* has very little relevance to the environment as it's an anecdotal experience.

Have you considered gouging the USB C ports from all of your Apple devices in order to make them all portless?
Majority of Mac users commonly use USB-C ports more than just charging.
Majority of iPhone users commonly use the port for charging only. Data is generally done wirelessly.

You're arguing that nearly everything Apple sells uses USB-C and therefore USB-C should be the exclusive port standard for Apple devices. By that logic, remove Mac's MagSafe port and add back the 4th port as USB-C.

Apple already provides the option for wireless charging and data transfer. You say that USB-C is a mistake, but why it bothers you at all? You have the option to skip it entirely if you want.

Shame they didn't move AirPods Pro 2nd gen to USB-C last year, considering the USB-C Apple TV remote was unveiled at the exact same event
And miss the chance to sell you the same AirPods with a USB C case as the only change? Apple knew they were doing this and they get a mid cycle bump.

I respect it. As it means we get nice new software features for those of us who skip the “upgrade”.

It's smart that they are changing manufacturing processes to accommodate the EU law. Lightning has had its run, now it is time to change course and move towards something more widely universal. As an owner of gen 2 Airpod Pros, I don't feel slighted by this change at all. These things advance over time as is the nature in the electronics industry.🤷‍♂️

You have no idea what you talking about, best thing which could Happen for environment and users.
Agreed. Huge step in the right direction long-term. Shame they wasted our time when they went from 30-pin to lightning much less made us wait ten years to get out of that nonsense.

Many enthusiasts had a surplus of 3.5mm headphones/earbuds. All those went to ewaste after the EU forced Apple to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from all their iDevices.

Now iDevice users have to use AirPods with non-user replaceable batteries and shorter lifespan. What an environmental disaster.
If you don't like AirPods or think there are better alternatives with better battery life, buy that instead lol.
