Smaller form factors don’t equal lower pricing. Most phone manufacturers had bigger and better screens before Apple came out with the 6. But Apple maneged to be more expensive. Most likely because iOS was ahead of android back then. Fast forward today: Android is on par and in many ways even better so is the hardware of competitors.

I disagree. Relatively speaking within Apple’s own eco system: smaller form factors usually mean lower pricing, i.e: plus vs non plus models, iPad Pro 11” vs 12.9”, MBP 13” vs 15”, iMac 21.5” vs 17”, etc etc etc....the list goes on.

Given all the examples listed above, the XR can indeed be sold at a cheaper price in a smaller form factor.

I agree with you on that if you compare it with other Apple products. Comparing Apple’s screen size to the competition it’s a very different story.

Yea. I didn’t mean to compare with the competition. Just for Apple’s own sake to get that entry price lower than what it is today. Apple increasing the price $50 each year for the entry level “current” iPhone sucks.

And when you know that a Galaxy S9 is considerably cheaper than the cheapest iPhone XR over here in the Netherlands then I hope everyone understands that Apple is pricing itself out of the market for being too greedy.

RE: "swingeing"

I actually had to look that one up !

Good thing the market is closed due to holiday otherwise AAPL will drop another notch below $800 million market cap.
Well, can’t say it’s a good thing the market is closed. Because Apple only responds to financial numbers instead of customers.

I wish it tanked a lot more to get a better Apple in the future.

Maybe it’s because:

XR is 177 grams
XS is 174 grams

SE is 113 grams

Apple quit peeing down customers backs and telling them it’s raining. Quit locking your customers down with ball and chain....and liberate them from being slaves to their device.
Agree with the message, but let’s get the numbers right. XR is 194 grams, ~10% heavier than XS (177 grams). The XS is ~28% heavier than a 7 (138 grams), which was already 22% heavier than than the SE’s 113 grams. All that said, a XR is 72% heavier than the SE that some people think it replaces. And more than twice the price.

The Apple Watch is not too expensive imho. Garmin sells sport watches for 800$. So if Apple can increase functionality via software it is almost a steal.

I will agree once the EKG app is released. At that point I believe the Apple Watch to be a very well priced product. Everything else is absurdly overpriced.

I think I do get the point. Apple has positioned itself into a NICHE market and that's fine. However, you can't expect your product to garner worldwide customers at a top tier price point. At the end of the day, it's not all about that shiny logo.

Yuck, you don’t get the point I think. You can’t compare a Bentley with an Honda by quality and finish. But you can compare Apple and Samsung.

Things they need to cut the price of everywhere:

iPhone XS
iPhone XS Max
iPhone XR
iMac
MacBook Pro
MacBook
MacBook Air
Mac Mini
iPad Pro
iPad Air
iPad
AirPods
Apple Watch
Memory Upgrades
Apple Pencil

EDIT: Forgot about the Apple HomePod.

What did I miss?

I suspect this is what Apple might and can do for its fall 2019 lineup:

- Drop the XR and replace it with the iPhone X back in production at $650 and 128 GBs. This will get many users wanting the new technology and better screen at a better price point. You can still have an up sell with what will be an A13 iPhone at $999 price point.

Not in a million years.

- Drop the iPhone 7 completely and replace it with the iPhone 8 at $450, $550 for the Plus, both standard with 128 GBs.

They will drop the iPhone 7, but why would they give you so much storage standard in the poor-person model?

- Drop the price of the 2019 flag ship iPhone A13 successor to 850, with the maxed out configuration going up to $1,100. That means, an iPhone 11 Plus with 512 GBs of RAM for 1100 dollars. Absorb some of the cost. It’s better you have users buying them thaN end up with stock no one wants to buy.

It was rumored that they would drop the price to $899 this year, but they didn't. I'm THRILLED that it didn't work for them. Hope they get screwed even more.

Not always! You have a brand and that's your most valuable asset.

Gucci, Chanel and the like literally burn old stock. If it's sold at discounted prices, it damages brand value - and the people buying that $3,000 handbag won't be so inclined to do that when you can wait some time and have it for $1,000.

Because they are? Bloomberg is fake news too. CNBC is fake news. Nikkei is fake news. All of them have reported fake articles about Apple this year and in the past. Do you want me to dig them up?

WSJ has zero credibility when it comes to Apple.
Until of course they praise Apple at which point their credibility is beyond reproach right

Their prices have certainly increased but I also think the product lineup has become confusing to the average consumer.

X, 8 plus, 8, 7 plus, 7 and SE made sense... There was clear differentiation of features and price to create a hierarchy of 6 products. Which is kind of an accomplishment given that they are all fundamentally the same device.

Now the website lists Xs Max, Xs, Xr, 8 plus, 8, 7plus, 7. Especially in the high end there is tons of feature overlap and not much price difference.

I have the XR; the bezels don’t bother me, nor does the ‘notch’.

However whilst I’ve made a trade off in terms of pixels per inch etc there does come a time when you have to wonder why Apple seem to think it’s “acceptable” to use a lower res screen that’s been around since iPhone 4!

Sure, the cynical part of me thinks it’s because it maximises profit.

Here’s another way Apple could win back its customer base. They should implement an iPoints program. Every time you buy an Apple product, laptop, iPad, Mac mini, watch, phone, accessory you are given so many iPoints. They iPoints can later be redeemed for cash towards a new Apple product.

So if you buy a watch one yr and an iPad the next on the third yr you could redeem those iPoints of say $50.00 towards a new iPhone. It would be Apples way of saying thanks and apppreciating it’s customers coming back every yr. Rewards program for valued customers.

Good that people now accept Apple is a fashion business whose new products offer little to no improvements over previous ones. I'm sure Tim is working on moving iPhone development to a seasonal release schedule.

Wearable devices will always be fashion. That's why Google lost the glasses war years ago.
