No, in fact, they don’t. _No one_ has inside quantitative data to Apple’s supplier relations to what Apple Can produce in terms of quantities with manufacturing on mass levels with the iPhone and components. Unless you have something contradicting, please provide a direct source how they have direct access exact numbers.

FTR, Ming Kuo always makes predictions, whether his predictions are Accurate or not is entirely different segments. ‘Sources’ like WSJ, the Wall Street and Nikkei are mudslingers, The same articles resurfaced and are regurgitated every single year, and has been proven to be wrong.

That wasn't what you posted was it? You said nobody had inside information from Apples supply chain. That is clearly not true.

People saying that iOS is beyond reproach are fooling themselves, along with the price point. This site and the Apple Subreddit will be on suicide watch if/when Bixby AI surpasses Siri which shouldn't be too difficult given the circumstances.

So, no source? Deflection observed. Can you tell me directly who has inside supplier relations that has Apples components and hardware quantitative data logistics? I would be happy to read any specific source you have definitively proving that. FTR, you made the insinuation Ming Kuo’s predictions are 90% accurate, keyword is ‘Predictions.’

This. Cracks me up how Apple used to rip on Android for being fragmented and now they are doing the same thing to the iPhone now. It makes sense to keep the previous years model around. Splitting the line into premium (XS) and standard (XR) tiers breaks what made the iPhone great. Every year there was one iPhone for everyone, everyone got the best technology. Then the X drew a line and showed that people will pay a premium for new tech/new design.

There should be no XR phone. There should be an XS and XS+ available in XR colors with an OLED display and a reasonable starting price of $699.

Create more artificial brand lock-in by making their customers feel obligated to buy Apple because they have $250 in Disney Dollars, I mean Apple credit they can't use otherwise? Sorry, just NO.

Go back to making products that are well engineered, well designed, competitive and priced appropriately. Your customers should organically want to purchase from you again.

Apple has never bashed android on hardware fragmentation, they never criticized the fact that their are a lot of models and different specced androids around.
They criticized android for their software and update fragmentation. Adoption rates of new versions of android are very low and slow compared to iOS. And that is what they criticized...

Bixby is dead in the water, and will never catch on. You can say that it is more superior, and I believe that... but it is too late. Amazon and google have taken the lead and won’ t let go , Siri hangs on, but bixby... no it is already gone.

Their prices have certainly increased but I also think the product lineup has become confusing to the average consumer.

X, 8 plus, 8, 7 plus, 7 and SE made sense... There was clear differentiation of features and price to create a hierarchy of 6 products. Which is kind of an accomplishment given that they are all fundamentally the same device.

Now the website lists Xs Max, Xs, Xr, 8 plus, 8, 7plus, 7. Especially in the high end there is tons of feature overlap and not much price difference.
Their whole lineup has gotten a mess. The newest Mac products can’t handle the processors by overheating, the newly MacBook Air should’ve got the same price tag as the one it replaced. The old MacBook Air should be discontinued because it’s a discrease for that price and not even worth making cheaper. We have the touchbar Pro disasters, bendable ipad pro’s. It’s about time the market responds. Greed and lag of value for money will eventually end this. Let’s hope they’ll take a bit hit soon. Only if this happens we’ll see a better Apple.

There are now tons of refurbished iPhone 6s units on Amazon, but a 64GB unit will still cost you almost $250. I'm not sure there is any strategy anymore than getting rid of TONS of inventory of old iPhones, which Apple apparently has on their hands (no buybacks of old inventory from Apple, which is part of why their "shipped" numbers are useless).

There are currently 10--TEN!!!--iPhone models for sale from Apple either on Amazon or Apple.com, with the discontinued iPhone X now coming back to make it an unwieldy 11.

This is literally the same greedy dead end direction Steve Jobs had to come back and fix 20 years ago. Ask anybody who dealt with the frequent model confusion and redundancy of the Centris/Quadra/Performa product lines how it shook out.

Yes I said his predictions re Apples future releases were 90% accurate. I posted nothing about him having access to specific numbers and neither did you...

Realistically, I don’t know how much I actually believe in these analyst predictions. Last year, as an example, the 2017 iPhone X was rumored to be decreased in production early on after its initial release, yet Tim Cook stated that the X was the most popular selling iPhone every week for that quarter. So what does that tell you?

Analysts don’t have inside information to Apple suppliers, they merely are making predictions based off what they believe, not what they know.

I looked at the X phone range, decided they were all too bulky, heavy and expensive compared to my SE.
I bought a second iPhone SE for $200 as a spare to keep me going for 5 years at least.
I bought the 3G, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, SE. It looks like after that it will be another brand if, like in 2018, there are smaller and lighter alternatives to the iPhone.

I disagree about the overheating , this has been improved and a bug in the os, has been fixed already. Ask Dave lee

Tim Cook’s greed? What the hell are u talking about? Just because you’ve been accustomed to buying cheap Android handsets doesn’t mean there’s not a market for quality iPhones.

Samsung paying some commenters here no doubt...
Lol, from what planet are you from? Ever compared those phones side by side? Over here the iPhone XR is already more expansive than a Galaxy S9. Using Phil’s words: competitive my ass.

Yes I said his predictions re Apples future releases were 90% accurate. I posted nothing about him having access to specific numbers and neither did you...

And this is exactly what I was trying to explain to you, you're conflating Ming-Kuo making predictions of future products versus actually having any type of relevance to Apples supplier relations in terms of components if they decide to cut manufacturing costs, sources like WSJ, Wall Street And Nikkei _Do_Not_ have any inside information. I’m not trying to ‘Pick’ on your post, but this is a great example of why you’re under the notion of ignorance that you don’t have any understanding that no one has access to this specific information, they make their guesstimating’s based off stock market value, not to mention, the same article(s) resurface every year without evidence (Which you haven’t posted anything concrete when I asked twice for a source) in regurgitating information. It's rudimentary 101.

Are you sure?:

Both systems have overheating problems up to a level that it’s useless to get more cores/better processors.

The only phone that will be a smaller and lighter alternative to current iphones, will be a new iPhone . When next gen faceid launches, which will be smaller, apple will release a smaller phone, xr will disappear, next iPhone line up will be:

5.2 inch iPhone XI , OLED, 1 camera, with faceid for 699
5.85 iPhone XI for 949
6.5 iPhone max for 1049

With a fast charger in the box.

One can dream...

What surprises is me that, despite Tim Cook being a brilliant businessman and obviously waaaay smarter/more experienced than me, even I know that Apple needs to come up with some kind of budget iPhone (example: a follow-up to the iPhone SE) to connect with more buyers overseas.

They're not just selling hardware...they're also selling services and an entire ecosystem. That $349 iPhone SE purchase can also turn into AirPods, an Apple Watch, an iPad, etc. The iPhone is typically the gateway product.

Give these people a taste of iOS. They really should put out a new "$499 or less" iPhone.

PS I know that they're intentionally not putting out a cheaper iPhone because they're worried about a 0% increase in units sold year-to-year, so they focused on raising prices for each individual unit. I hear that, and I get it. I just worry that this is a short-term fix rather than a long-term solution to keep people invested in the ecosystem.

But again, what do I know? That's just me being an armchair CEO...

Thats one of the best posts - especially regarding to, that apple wants/needs to become a service company. As I posted earlier, they are currently losing me as a hw customer, that means they lose me as a service customer too. I have no glue why they don‘t get that fact.

AND they lose me on ALL their products / except airpods ... thats remarkable too

It’s a boring, stale, overpriced device. Apple has about 2-3 years to get its act together before the tipping point of consumerism occurs, IMO. Once a tipping point initiates it is a like a snowball effect and all of the money goes into slowing the loss of customers.

Sales have been slowing for a while. Now it is extending to all iPhone ljnes.

Tim Cook needs to go.

People may not be making a judgement of other people based on the phone they own, but there are plenty of iPhone owners who feel that way about themselves. One of the greatest criticisms that many here had of the iPhone SE was that although it was a new phone it LOOKED LIKE the older 5S (identical) and that it would appear as if they had an old phone when in fact it was new. Don't take my word for it, a forum search will show that to be true.

That is so sad. Seeking professional help is probably a better solution for those with issues relating to self worth/esteem.

How do you think he makes the predictions about their upcoming releases. Do you think he is just guessing? He is being fed information on component orders from Apples supply chain!

Here is a rundown of his predictions over a four year period up to and including the iPhone 6s courtesy of cult of Mac. Twenty nine predictions of which only two were incorrect. That some record for someone who is "guesstimating’s based off stock market value".

Forgive me for my ignorance but I'm fairly sure he isn't able to predict the components of future hardware based on a stock price.

He is clearly very well connected within Apples supply chain.

Of course he can only estimate future sales, he isn't any different from anybody else in that regard but would he have access to information about orders Apple is placing with suppliers? Very likely.

Apple saw sales were stagnant and would not continue to rise. They calculated that they could increase prices and profit margins, sell lower quantities and profit the same or more (likely more, since it's fewer resources being used). Then, this backfired because sales slumped more than they expected. I think this is the most likely scenario, and the expectation in a competitive environment.
I oversimplified it but it relates to your option b). Apple think because they have such a loyal following they can up all the prices and people will still pay it. Some will but it looks like a lot of people won't Just look at the increase in the base model costings for the Mac Mini. It's scandalous.

At the end of the day, Apple are a business and appeasing the shareholders and maximising profit is their ultimate goal but if they chipped away at their huge margins and looked at ways to bring down costs they would sell more and potentially make more money.

Well with the phones priced so high less people need to buy them and Apple still breaks even. I think it’s obvious that sales are down on the new iPhones, production cut back and now Apple won’t release sales figures anymore. It all means there not selling like they used to.

I don’ t agree entirely, it is apple that brings updates to older phones, and it is apple that, by developing great socs for the last 3 years, that people don’ t need to upgrade every 1 or 2 years, they can easily make it to 3 years now. They also improved performance on iOS 12 with older iPhones.
That is also the apple under Tim Cook. This also explains the slowdown. The way they are handling the slower upgrade rate though, by upping prices that much, that is not right way.

And wouldn’ t it be great if apple released some stellar numbers for this quarter?
These analysts and journalists would have to eat their words. And all these kind of rumors will disappear.
and a lot less speculation on these forums, sites and YouTube . Will save us some time.

How do you think he makes the predictions about their upcoming releases. Do you think he is just guessing?

Unfortunately, this discussion has Become circular talk. Where you’re off tangent, is I’m not contesting Ming Kuo’s hardware predictions, that’s not really the concept of this discussion, I am discussing the iPhone productions been halted based off frivolous data that has no concrete evidence of anything regarding hardware slowing production. My point being, and (I think I made this clear as possible at least three times), you were referring about Ming-Kuo making hardware future predictions, what does that have to do with anything with those ‘sources’ making claims stating Apple is limiting iPhone production? Kuo is one source, and I do give you credit that he is the most accurate source for product releases, what in terms of actually having anything of evidentiary nature regarding limiting production, but has no relation to what you’re referring to at all in this article.

Regardless, more on topic, guaranteed Apple has no concerns with these garbage reports that have no supply relation connections or quantitative data to their production facilities whatsoever in terms of the iPhone XR. And just like last year with the 2017 iPhone X, that was debunked when Tim Cook said it was the best selling iPhone of every week during the quarter. So what does that tell you in retrospect? I think that should be evidently clear Who the CEO is a direct source for Apple, not from third-party mudslinger. Thanks for the discussion.

The screen and camera are probably the two most important things on a smartphone whether you are tech savvy or not.

The point was that the price hike to get "the best" screen and camera may not be worth it (especially if you are not "tech savvy") and people are choosing lower priced devices.

Uhm ... am a techy ... bit older but the camera and screen on my 7 are insanely good. The photos are surreal good. Am not used to such good fotos. I dont need it any better and I doubt there are a lot of people who even care about. The just try to manipulate people with the new unsharp effect and stuff.

If You need good zoomed photos You need a real camera still anyways.
Samsung had good oled screens with the s8 already You can buy this for a far smaller amount, and its still a superior phone with its edge display

On apple ‘ s site there are 7 models for sale. Still too much models, but not the 10 or 11 you are talking about.
That other retailers , warehouses still have stock, doesn’ t mean apple still produces or offers these iPhones .
