The S9 has a comparable screen and camera as the iPhone XS. It has more ram and storage. Yet it’s cheaper to even the cheapest iPhone XR which it far succeeds. Let Tim explain the reasons why... for me as a customer I feel robbed and it’s Apple that’s driving me away.

Robbed? You were forced to buy a new iPhone? If you think the S9 is comparable but so much cheaper, err, inexpensive then buy that instead.

I do agree though, that Apple’s driving people away with overpricing

For € 150 I can get a whole watch with SS and real sapphire. My edit: also a SS band included.

iOS these days isn’t a compelling reason anymore. Maybe it was till a few years ago. Now android is on par and in some areas even ahead of iOS.
Still is for me, as long as Andoid phones "phone home" to Google with 10 times more data than iPhones, and the amount of malware apps on the Play store are much more frequent to name just two reasons among many. I think I may upgrade to the previous year's model, though I am glad I don't have to give up twin lenses and 3D Touch by keeping my 7 Plus.

Things they need to cut the price of everywhere:

iPhone XS
iPhone XS Max
iPhone XR
iMac
MacBook Pro
MacBook
MacBook Air
Mac Mini
iPad Pro
iPad Air
iPad
AirPods
Apple Watch
Memory Upgrades
Apple Pencil

EDIT: Forgot about the Apple HomePod.

What did I miss?

The funny thing is that the 4 day special, they only give you a gift card that cannot be applied to any of the brand new products (Mac Mini, Macbook Air, etc).

read it loud and clear Apple. Your 'budget' phone needs to have a budget price. Especially in this climate and especially in the far east where Apple isn't a dominating phone brand. Lower the cost already. This XR Budget price xtra ridiculous.

It is not just the phone, but the computer too. Look at Mac Mini with almost a 70% price increase.
I do not think that $799.00 is not an entry level price computer.

The Japanese market is being mentioned as an example of a global problem with Apple’s business model. IMO, Tim has no idea where he wants Apple to be in 5 years. :apple:
You dont know where Tim wants Apple to be in 5 years is more the case.

It’s definitely ahead of iOS in the amount of data it sends back to the mothership. In other areas, not so much.

My point was that if it was a shakedown, Apple would drop support for older devices like most other manufacturers do. My dad is old school and doesn't like change.

For me 3 years is the limit on how long I keep a phone, so iPhone 6 to iPhone X was a worthwhile upgrade to me last year. I expect to keep the X another 2 years, and I don't feel anyone at Apple is taking advantage of me or my dad.
I do think it's a shake down and that apple is extending support for older devices to avoid the heat from lawmakers. They've been targeted for looking like they're monkeying with people's battery life for planned oobsolescence. They're certainly not supporting your dad's 5 year old phone out of the kindness of their hearts as you can see from the way they've jacked prices lately. I think it's a little naive to view Apple in anything but voracious capitalist mode.

Yeah, apple is going down. Lol.
I think it is great that apple won’ t disclose unit sales anymore.
Wall Street is driven by certain metrics, and that is asp and units sold. That is it.
This will give Apple some room to cut prices without having to handle shareholders all the time. It will be less transparent and shareholders won’ t get access to all the numbers, I think that could have a positive effect on customers.
Wallstreet will get over it since Apple was the only one disclosing that info.

Steve's $1 salary didn't include his stock options. It was actually a tax shelter, and there was a bit of a scandal about the way the shares were issued.

Yes I know that, but the comment was about the actual salary, not a bonus in stock. I have also read on this forum that Tim Cook followed the same way.

Believe it or not, on average it take 20 to 25 years for most Americans to pay of their student loans.

The iPhone XS Max 512GB in the UK is £1449 which is absolutely ridiculous.

As much as I love Apple I do look forward to the day the constant price hikes comes back to bite them in the ass.

New iPhone models used to cost the same of cheaper than the previous model.

its sad caus ive had every single iphone except the 4s
when it comes time to replacing my x, i dont think ill be able to justify the next one

This news is hilarious. Apple shooting itself in the foot, reducing functionality and practicality from their phones (headphone jack?!) and then raising the price.... and now they gotta backtrack.

Finally people are using their wallet to show Apple what they think of their business practices. GOOD!!!

Here’s another way Apple could win back its customer base. They should implement an iPoints program. Every time you buy an Apple product, laptop, iPad, Mac mini, watch, phone, accessory you are given so many iPoints. They iPoints can later be redeemed for cash towards a new Apple product.
So if you buy a watch one yr and an iPad the next on the third yr you could redeem those iPoints of say $50.00 towards a new iPhone. It would be Apples way of saying thanks and apppreciating it’s customers coming back every yr. Rewards program for valued customers.
Nice idea; I used to think along the same line.
But found out that mass providers like Apple rather spend 1/2 an hour to worship new customers than 1/2 a second to existing customers - let alone to reward them. Instead, the strategy is to suck every penny out of them w/o spending any time

I have an iPhone XS Max and Im not impressed at all, coming from iPhone7 plus. Face ID works 90% of situations but not all and it sucks the finger print is gone. The notch doesnt bother me but the constant crashes with apps is getting on my nerves. The iPhone 7 was more stable.

Was thinking about upgrading my 6 Plus to the XS Max 256GB, but after AppleCare and taxes, it was going to be $1,550!!

I ended up finding a used 8 Plus for $350 & the $1,200 savings was used to buy a MacBook Air.

So happy I didn’t waste all that money on an XS Max.

I could probably find one for even less, what's your point? On the other hand, there are watches that go for $10k+, and they can barely tell the time, nothing more.

Poppycock! You knew exactly what you were buying and decided to buy it anyway, instead of the S9. If you're having buyer's remorse then work on your shopping impulses, don't blame Apple.

Another story without sources designed to put pressure on the stock. The story on its face doesn’t even make sense.

The XR is overpriced at $700+USD. IMHO, the start cost should start at $500USD. With regards to the other iPhones, most people do not think it's worth it to upgrade every year when improvements are marginal. The smartphone industry has matured and the exponential leaps aren't there at this time. The next big thing for smartphones may be 5G and that's likely 3-5 years off for the iPhone.

Hate to tell you but most people don’t upgrade every year and never have.

Historically Apple has come out with significant speed improvements one year and a new feature the next. The same formula is in effect.

As far as advancements are concerned I’m sure your privy to Apple pipeline. Lots of money is being spent on health and AI.

Your on a crappy carrier then as most had some sort of trade in deal going on that would have. Fought the cost down significantly. The XS Max is the best phone ever. I upgraded from a 7 Plus.

Well You've hedged your bets by saying 3.5 years because Google Pixel series of phones get "minimum 3 years of Android update support"

https://www.quora.com/Which-Android-smartphone-brand-had-the-longest-update-support

If three years is the minimum then I don't think it's unreasonable to expect three and half do you?

That's an Android phone named for you.

From point of first release...folks always seem to gloss over this point.
And having owned a quickly abandoned by Google Nexus 7 2013, I dont believe much of what Google claims anymore. Enjoy your pixel.

Strange I have the opposite experience. I just found it took a while to get used to things like swiping from the top right corner to get your control panel.

News? What news? Same story as last year which was false. Anonymous source story. Fact is Apple sold more phones this last quarter than the same quarter last year for more money.

What business practice? The XR costs less than last years phones.

The XR is cheaper than last years models, and you can still buy last years models for less.

That is BS. Name one other phone manufacturer still supporting phones five years old. Apple’s battery management software actually helped extend the life of a phone by not having a phone freeze when an older battery was reaching the end of its life. Apple’s mistake was not informing people that was going on and not including an off switch. Further, Apple is replacing batteries for under thirty dollars. It isn’t making much dough there. I’m still using a MacBook Pro from 2009.

I said to myself that I would never buy another iPhone again but I picked one up today. iPhone 7 for $210 canadian and bestbuy gave me a $300 gift card. After converting the gift cards to prepaid master cards, upgrade fee and taxes, it cost me $2.50 for a brand new iPhone 7.
How do you convert gift cards?

In India, the iPhone XS and Max costs more than most people's a full year salary. How Apple thinks to tackle India market?
India has over 1b people and not all of them are poor. Apple also doesn’t make just the XS.
[doublepost=1542950515][/doublepost]
That would be Samsung or Pixel, then.
Not really. First of all, Apple has industry leading screens that are designed well and made by Samsung. They are among th best if not the best. The XS Max had the “best” smartphone screen for a period of time...they always are coming out with new phones, so it doesn’t hold the title forever.

The XS camera is rated better than any Samsung (Dxo) and has proven to be a better video cameras than th Pixel, better at recording audio, and basically subjective on which photo is better with Pixel 3 being better sometimes and XS being better others.

Apple hardware is as good or better in the 3 major areas. Camera. Screen. Silicon. There is no comparison is silicon and I just told you screen and camera are top of the line.

FaceID is still the most secure and best facial recognition setup on the market.
