Wow really? So they are now going to fragment the iPhone models to be country specific and even have features limited to those countries? I’m not surprised Ive left...

If they did this it would be like Apple sticking a big fat middle finger up to the Western markets, as I would imagine lots would buy a cheaper iPhone with under screen finger print reader. Whilst charging sky high prices for everyone in the Western market.

Touch ID is more convenient
Face ID is more secure

Decisions decisions

With the Face ID versus Touch ID debate, the security of Face ID is always brought up.

But, it is not like Touch ID is not secure.

Having my simple bedroom door lock replaced with a vault door would be much more secure too, but it is not like I am doing anything in the that would warrant the extra security.

Why does Apple have to innovate the FPS on a budget phone? Copy and paste here is fine.

Here is the Apple patent for full screen fingerprint sensor , but instead that, Apple it putting a Qualcomm technology used by many android devices. That’s not the Philosophy of Apple ⚠️

it won't feel right if they remove the FaceID only for the China and implement the TouchID again, the rest of the world will moan and Apple won't risk to play with already decreasing sales globally of their phones. I'm sure they'll stick with both for some times until they move forward.. who knows to something new? Not changing phone this year, maybe next year if i see anything new then new camera set..

I don't find face ID secure. It's so easy to take someone else's iPhone, just turn it around so that the iPhone see the other person's head, and that's sufficient to unlock it. Very easy to have access to all of his personal information.

Here's what apple did.

Takes away Touch ID for a full screen phone but with a notch for unlocking.
Gets all the people to upgrade saying the notch isn't a big deal but Apples ultimate idea was under screen technology for unlocking and under glass technology for the front facing camera.
Apple wanted to get as many people to upgrade to the notch full screen phone and most did.
Now when technology evolves a little they release the under screen stuff and go full screen phone(what every manufacturer is trying to achieve).
Apple figured the faceID stuff was cost efficient enough to spend money on for the possible future upgrades of full screen phones for more $$$.
How else would apple sell 1000$ phones 2-4 years after everyone just bought a 1000$ phone? Its not like phones since iPhone 7 are bad. They are still very useable today. I know plenty of people with iPhone 6s still. Not as many people upgrade and especially the newer X and XS models will last everyone 5 years EASILY if people want them to. These phones the last few years are blazing fast with plenty of storage and ram for the future how can Apple get anyone to upgrade from their 1000$ phones?
This is it.

I would much prefer to go back to TouchID at this point. Face ID on my iPXSMax is not half as fluid and seamless as it should be. I can't unlock my phone when it's sitting on my desk, on a stand or in my car unless I contort my neck to be directly infront of it. I have to raise it to work with my polarised sunglasses, and it is definitely a lot slower.

Touch ID, whether on the back, in screen or on the side is a lot more usable. Touch ID was as secure as 99.99% of the population need. At no point has an iPhone 8 Plus been hacked through the Touch ID function, and Apple has never said that it is insecure.

FaceID is like having 10 unpickable locks on your door, when Touch ID is like having 5. Both very secure and so far impenetrable, but it's slower and a bit more hassle with the Face ID.

Its definitely been more frustrating than the fingerprint sensor these last two years. Cant unlock on a table, can't unlock in bed too well, can't unlock with weird angles. I have to put in my passcode numerous times a day especially just lounging around my place. I do miss Touch ID for those reasons but Id take the screen size to put up with how annoying it is at times. There needs to be a Touch ID return that's for sure.

Alright.
Please tell everyone, what is the “Philosophy” of Apple.

This makes zero sense. If they wanted to add it, they'd put it on the back, like the others. If they want to do it on-screen, it sure as hell ain't China-only.

2 factor authentication biometrics wouldn't be a bad thing would it? You could use either one as a quick login, using whichever is quicker, but when it really needs to confirm who you are, like when my iPhone insists that it requires my 4 digit pin, kick in with 2FA rather than the pin. Options within settings could allow you to always require 2FA for the security conscious or mostly have it turned off except when the OS deems it necessary

China already has a dual sim option specific to the region, but yeah, middle fingers an' that.

Not clear under what scenario you envision just taking someone else’s phone, but if it was without consent you might find yourself getting clocked while “just turn it around”.

Conversely far more easier to to just “take some else’s phone” while they are sleeping and used touchID.

However I’m a fan of touchID.

The amount of time spent waiting for FaceID to not work, and then put in the passcode is frustrating enough that any time saved when it works is totally forgot about. I understand that it's early tech, but if these issues were presented by any other manufacturer, we would be talking about how flawed it is. Yes, it is more secure, but the previous option was already secure enough, and wasn't half as much hassle to use in all but ideal scenarios.

How racist of Apple. Btw, many Asians feel westerners all look alike too.

Same here. Love it!

And if glasses are an issue, then add additional faceid’s wearing them.

Having just come back to iPhone after using galaxy s10, I can say I missed Face ID. The in screen FPS just plain sucked. It worked about 60% of the time for me. If apple could figure out a way to make the FPS better, maybe it’d be worth it, but Samsung’s version of it was just horrible for me.
