Yes please Apple!! I have been with iPhone since the 3G and upgraded nearly every year until last. I think Face ID and the lack of rectangular screen (notch and rounded corners) are the most ridiculous changes to the iPhone.

Behold, the new iPhone SE!

I dunno though...if it were being released this year, I might have bitten. Depending on what exactly the "updated internals" would actually come with the phone.

But for March 2020? Eh...who knows what might be out then? Including Apple's own products. Probably too little, too late for me.

Lol. You must still use VHS tapes and couldn’t care less for the so called video steaming the whole world seems so obsessed with. Welcome to 2019.
Streaming sucks! Subscription-based, internet reliance, buffering/connection inconsistency, and awful awful compression. Sometimes technology trends are worse.

Edit- thought of more: unavailable content, temporary availability, blocked regions, ads, and tracking

A 4.7 inch phone with the modern design of the X variants would be a much better choice to me. I get they want to hit certain price points, but other companies can - Apple needs to step it up here. 4.7, 5.8, 6.1, 6.5 - all OLED, all with the X design and same specs aside from cameras, $699, $799, $899, $999 , that is how this lineup should look come 2020.

Tim Cook and co just don’t get it. We don’t need so many different versions of each product. Just 3 versions of iPhone - one for under £400, a more premium version and a larger form factor. The latter two should be under £999. The lineup of macs, iPads and iPhones are just confusing and all over the place.

XS mini / XS / XS max – $599 / $799 / $999.

Looks like Apple is trying to suck every single penny of every device they have already created. Stop it! Just create the best phone you can + some options (screen size / storage size) and don't bother us with this.

I like your idea. This would simplify things a lot. I just wish Apple offered the smallest sized iPhone with up to date, top of the line specs. I’d do anything for a phone the size of an SE with a dual lens/portrait mode camera. I understand why Apple doesn’t do this, but I can dream! Lol.

Apple for some reason continues with the notion that large means higher end as if there aren't premium smaller sizes or even more important mid range large sizes.

I doubt literally anyone who went for Android for more value of money would return for a 4,6" phone.

i'm moving forward in i phones not taking several steps back bring on the 2020 i phone XSS Max

"the new 4.7-inch iPhone 8 will have an aggressive price tag of around $649"

LOL, by Apple's standards that's aggressive

Does this mean apple will discontinue sales of the 8 and 7 series iPhones this year.

Seems more plausible now that apple will be producing iPhone X in India.

They might do what they did the year iPhone SE launched

That year they stopped sales of 5c but kept the 5s on market until SE launched

So I expect iPhone 7 off market but they will likely keep 8 until this replacement comes out

Probably my next phone. Love my 7 and couldn’t care less about the so called bezels the whole world seems so obsessed with.

It’s mainly personal preferences, however most do not find the screen to body ratio in such a small device appealing when the bezels are factored.

If the iPhone bezel size was on a 10.5 or larger screen size, it’s not a problem. However add this to a 4” or smaller screen and it looks comical.

I find thick cases on any phone nonsensical, unless ones job requires it or someone is a complete klutz. You have this premium phone and cover it in a thick case, cosmetics are subjective per individual.

I wish it was available now. I need to replace 2 iPhone 7s, and that would be the perfect, reasonably priced solution.

As a long time Apple observer, this plan is DUMB A F. what’s Apple doing? Simplicity is out the window. Crappy old models rehashed to death. This is what happens when Phil Schiller is left unchecked by Steve Jobs. Models in 2020 should definitely have no home button, and be full screen. I truly believe the lack of simplicity has lead to the lack of overall progressive narrative around iPhone which has allowed new players to gobble up Apple’s customers. my friends left Apple a couple of years ago because of this.
It’s simple. Make one great phone, in small, medium, and large, in two storage capacities for each, and be done with it.

This makes no sense at all. Assuming Apple will do what they always do and launch the XI and XI Max and XR2 in September and brings down the prices of the XS($899), XS Max($999),XR($649), 8($499) and 8 Plus($599), how do they then differentiate between iPhone 8 from September 19 and iPhone 8 from March 20?
$50 more for 128GB instead of 64GB and things (CPU, etc) the average Joe doesn't know or understand, and it will be at the same price as the XR?
Something is wrong with this news, either the specs or price.

Apples goal is to offer tiers of the iPhone and iPad models. Observe and you will notice the budget iPads retain the established firm factor with 1st gen pencil support. Witness the X being discontinued from most markets to only offer XS. The issue is where does the XR fit in this equation going forward.

Apple kept almost the same silicone in the iPhone and iPad models, as it streamlined app and game development. However that seemed to have changed along with various screen sizes, aspect ratios and resolutions. The AppStore is a big mess today with some apps not scaling well, dropped support for new silicone models, etc. There are still apps that have yet to be optimized for the notch, let alone the new 11” iPad.

I can certainly see this model sell. But I don't think it will be an outright success. Like other mentioned, I'd like to see this in the mold of the Xs/Xr models - sans bezels.

But again, people will buy this who don't want to break the bank on Apple's flagship iPhone.
