That is the way I read it.

So good to hear this.
Several of my co-workers are rabid Android fans and are really dismissive of Apple Pay. I've been impressed so far and think many people are underestimating the impact.
Like another poster suggested, I think this is one of the biggest things Apple introduced this year.

Agreed. People are tired of having to cancel their cards because yet another retailer is compromised. Staples may have joined the club, apparently. Using your mag-stripe credit card has become a game of Russian roulette.

Apple offers a simple approach that eliminates a lot of the danger. To me, this is like 2007 all over again. People scoff at the new product, then it suddenly transforms the landscape.

If I ever see an ad or pop-up on my phone, I'm doing whatever I need to to get it off..I hate getting unwanted notifications.

I would love to see apple make an android apple pay app for phones that support the needed hardware. This would help spur the end of the compromised card once and for all. I just had to get two new cards thanks to home depot. This is getting crazy.

Why would they do that when the point is to get people to buy iPhones.

What the hell is ApplePay 2.0?
Probably some enhancements to cover the gaps in and add improvements to the current implementation.

I'd like to use Apple Pay with my bank's debit card to withdraw from an ATM.

How about delivering an itemized bill to your iPhone at a restaurant, then letting you add a tip and pay without waiting for your waiter to prepare it? How about selecting items on the bill and having their calories automatically added to Health?

I could see populating a shopping list in Reminders with the prices from your local Kroger (including discounts from your loyalty card, and electronic coupons or coupons you have scanned in), then sending it to the store so they have it ready for you as you drive through.

Those are just ideas, but there is always room for improvement in the Apple Pay experience (not to mention additional or more predictable revenue streams for Apple and its partners).

"This iAds portion of the loyalty system allegedly will use iBeacons and Bluetooth LE to push targeted ads with a "tap-to-buy" button to customers while they are visiting a participating merchant."

No, No, No, No, No.....No.

If it isn't immediately obvious based on what we've seen in the last 24 hours and now this news, Apple Pay is the most important thing Apple did this year.

Outside of the iPhone, ApplePay is probably the most important thing Apple has done in the past decade.

Sure...it could be a FREE case of Pepsi.

But really it would end up being save 50¢ on 6 bottles of Pepsi or buy 2 Bags of Lays chips and get 10¢ off a Pepsi.

Something un-extraordinary.

now, I do like the concept, just wish more places would offer Free WiFi in their stores so I am not using as much data to get all the stuff and location-based beacon thing-a-ma-jiggies.

That's exactly what they want you to do. You have to look to see what it is you're deleting and it makes an impression on your brain. Advertisers pay big bucks to get you to do that. You may hate it, but it's what makes the world go around.

I agree with that assessment, but also want to temper my excitement a bit. It is going to be a few years before the capabilities are fully realized. In the meantime, it will be very interesting to see the results next quarter.

Google Wallet users have not had to worry about that for years.

(Google uses token card numbers. The real card number is never shown to the merchant.)

Agreed. I can't believe our local Costco still doesn't have WiFi, but our crappy Sams Club does.

they are getting paid for each transaction that they assist in processing. I have to think that would be plenty of reason to expand iPhone sales are amazing but a lifetime of payments in the leagues of amex and visa would be even better

That's what I understand but I think the key difference is that Apple doesn't see your transactions. Google does. Google wallet requires unlocking the phone/waking up your screen, launching the app and unlocking the app via PIN. Apple Pay does not, just TouchID.

SOURCE
A major difference between the two systems, however, is that Apple says Apple Pay will have no access to the user's purchase information except for the most recent purchases listed in Passbook, which also carries the user's credit card and bank account information. Google, on the other hand, sees information on the user's purchases, which could make or break the decision for any user to use Google Wallet.

SOURCE
Google's inevitable goal with Google Wallet was to collect data on purchase behavior, in order to increase the relevance of targeted product ads. But that only happens if consumers adopt the service, which they haven't.

SOURCE
Even more importantly, Google sees the transactions, which will remain opaque to Apple, allowing Google to learn more about its users.

SOURCE
This difference in process flow is invisible to the user, but it’s significant. Google collects data on every transaction I make with Google Wallet and can use it according to their privacy policy. I know Google works very hard to keep my data safe, but by storing all of these details I’m open to potential exposure, either through a data breach, a subpoena or maybe just an accident.

Well the flip side of that is, why would Google allow this on Android phones since it would take away from their profits/market share in the NFC game.
