I doubt anyone is defending Beats or Bose as "great audio". They are marketing gimmicks.
I personally swear by B&W and I know music pros who use those.
Also Sennheisers are considered excellent.
If I want cool headphones with good sound for a cheap price I'd get skullcandy.

:apple: bought beats for the marketing value and the new concept of streaming instead of buying.

Noone buys Beats for their sound quality, but because they are in fashion amongst kids.
In my opinion they are a bizare rip-off.
im a huge fan of B&W probably one of the best in the business.

Paraphrasing:
  • some Bose products look awful to you
– and I have no reason to think of your views as non-factual, notional or bogus. Each person is entitled to his or her view.

Factually, actually, genuinely:
  • some people love the looks of the same products.

I own neither Beats nor Bose equipment.

My first impression of Beats, when I saw someone wear the headphones, long ago, was 'tacky'.

Then when I saw the Pill, marketed, I thought even worse of the brand and marketing.

I factually actually genuinely suspect that this topic will actually be no less verbose or genuine in the future than it is now. Fact ;-)

I write the way that I speak. I hope you enjoyed your pedantry, someone has to have.

Lostanddamned: that's a fair point – sorry.

(Not long beforehand, an unrelated long topic had gone off for the nth time on a somewhat unnecessary subjectivity-vs-objectivity tangent. That button-pressing rubbed off on me, but that was no excuse for me to then do things that might press other people's buttons – sorry.)

I edited my last post and will leave this apology.

Of all things, Beats? 300 Times worse than standard Apple earbuds and 900 times the price.

The fact that professional sports are a monopoly, their salaries and even concessions should be legislated to be a more reasonable amounts.

A better solution is to remove the protected status under the tax code. The NFL isn't a monopoly in that many other football leagues compete for the fan's dollar; the NFL is simply best at getting and paying for talent.

****** headphones just got 10x ******** going from Bose to Beats.

Cow crap or horse crap for dinner, your choice.

HiFI enthusiast. Yes, if you have thousands to spend on gear you can go around telling everyone how great your equipment is. Bose sound great, can't say that for Beats though. If you can't spend $300 on a bluetooth speaker that portable and sounds great...you're not an 'enthusiast' you're broke or really cheap. Sounds like those hating on a quality speaker have small peni... syndrome and need to show off flashier name brands.

You don't need to spend thousands. Get a decent amp and some good quality B&W speakers for example. It's probably cheaper than Bose and you get a far better sound. Bose is fine for those looking for a simple all-in-one-box setup, but it's not going to excite the ear drums of anyone with a good ear for music.

Only a matter of time before they kick out all the other competitors to Beats headphones and speakers.

That's debatable. Apple's had their own audio equipment too ear buds and such (remember that one woofer Apple "stereo"?) and that didn't happen.

Could be a whole new strategy. Remove boxed headphones and speakers from the retail store leaving only the Beats products on display next to the iPods, etc with boxed versions in the back. Then expand the Beats line into other areas such as headsets for mobile calls, etc. Maybe they will buy other accessory makers and create a series of sub-brands to fill their retail stores. Nice profit margins in accessories.

Sony makes far greater audio electronics than Bose and Beats By Dre...... Or Audio Technica or sennheiser. Beats by Dre is hipster garbage...

1. It's not an elitist to want good sound quality when we listen to music. Some of us enjoy great sounding music recordings as good as they were SUPPOSED to sound. If the equipment doesn't do it's job, it alters the sound quality and makes your investment in your music catalog to not sound enjoyable. Have you even heard your music catalog with a great sounding system compared to what you currently use? Have you ever listened to $1500 headphones running through a really nice headphone amp/DAC? Some of us have various hobbys or occupations where listening to music is a main focus. Just like some like to drive nice cars, others like boating, etc. It's not being an elitist as much as it is for someone to be kind of ignorant or not concerned about good sounding audio gear. Everyone has their own passions and things that gets them excited about something other than wasting money on tattoos or getting drunk or whatever other hobby someone has. I would rather spend money on audio equipment whereas someone would rather drink that same amount of money.

2. Yes, I've been a musician since I began studying music since 1969 and I've been around various musicians and musical instruments in live performances and recording studios. FYI, have you ever been to a concert hall listening to an orchestra in a great concert hall that didn't need a PA system? To get a system to reproduce that same experience is VERY difficult, but that's what some of us want to experience in our own home.

3. That's great that you like bass, but try this simple and FREE experience. Take your favorite music and your Beats headphones to a local audio dealer that has a pair of HD800's, Audeze, Stax or high end Grado headphones and do a comparison test. See for yourself if you like these others better. Bass is a funny thing. The average person that listens to music on average systems/headphones aren't really listening to accurate bass. What happens is you THINK it's great, but it's not that accurate and it ends up not being natural sounding because it's just not created properly. Most people start out being what audiophiles refer to as BOOM and SIZZLE. That's low fi. High end is not BOOM and SIZZLE, it's more natural and REAL. You'll experience and hear things in your catalog of music on a whole other level and you'll be surprised at how much of the music you don't hear with those headphones. But you have to experience it yourself. Words can't describe the feeling.

4. Bose, same thing. You aren't hearing your catalog of music compared to what it would sound like going through a high end DAC and a good audio system. It's a whole other experience. You are driving a simulated Ferrari on your computer vs going out and actually driving a REAL Ferrari.

Now, you don't have to spend tons of money on a system to get good audio. I know that maybe you can't afford a decent system, but it's possible to get a great system that you'll enjoy a LOT more. How much do you have invested in your music catalog? I'm assuming you actually pay for your content vs stealing it. I have about $20K in my music collection that I've collected over the last few decades, so I've spent more in my catalog of music than the equipment I play it on. I also spend up to about 8 hours in a day listening to music depending on my mood as I like playing music during the day when I'm on my computer doing other things.

5. McDonalds isn't real Beef. It's fake. It's got too much artificial crap in it. Obviously, it's just more convent and a little less money, but it's not made by chefs, it's not high quality beef, but if you want to put crap food in your body or don't mind being brainwashed by a food chain, then maybe you are just gullible to mass marketing.

6. Whether or not I get laid has nothing to do with discussing this subject matter. You seem to be the one that doesn't get it. Maybe you need to listen to better audio equipment but are afraid to. You are wallowing in ignorance. if you can't afford anything more than what you have, then that's a reason not to buy it, but at least listen to better equipment to at least get a real experience in knowing what good audio sounds like. That's free, it doesn't cost anything except for some driving time and spending a couple of hours listening to various music. Why can't you just accept the fact that it just might change your stance on what good audio sounds like? Afraid? Sounds like you just like mediocre. Sounds like your like being part of the masses of those living in a world of mediocrity or maybe you'd rather blow most of your money on booze or drugs.

You've got me pegged, man. I totally live a mediocre life while being drunk and high. :)

Removing a Brand that Apple have endorsed....

With Apple removing the BOSE Brand which they have endorsed it begs to ask the question was there any validity in the original endorsement to the BOSE Brand.

It certainly makes one wonder. I am yet to come across a product as high quality as the BOSE Mini SoundLink which makes for an ideal Bluetooth sound system with my iMac.

Apple will have their work cut out to come anywhere near close with the Beats Brand.

Meanwhile BOSE is simply in another league and it is a loss to the Apple Store consumer not to have the choice to purchase BOSE products.

Apple is preparing to remove all Bose audio products, both demo and sellable, from its retail environment, according to a reliable source who spoke to MacRumors. The inventory change will begin early next week, with instructions for removal being sent to employees in the coming days.
This one's gone very quiet, eh?

Today's the day

Beyond quiet. This topic was silent for a while. It's the 16th. Been way too long, ladies and gentlemen. Out with the old, in with the new plus a period of silence can mean only one thing.

Out with the old – loudspeakers are so last century! Apple's latest innovation:

silentspeakers

– and the most personal listening experience ever, over the ears and wireless (browntooth):

Overpriced junk shouldn't be sold in Apple Stores regardless of what you think of Beats.

Beats are ok...but very overpriced.

You can do much much better for your dollar.

You're clueless an idiot.
