I love my Belkin magsafe charger that holds up my watch+phone and lets me rest my airpods or my android phone on the bottom to charge 3 devices at once. Plus it lets me take advantage of always on display on the watch

But are there any other accessories that aren't a magsafe powerbank that people use?
Same, I use it on my screen to mount the phone as a webcam, everyone always says how clear and how much quality the video has. I'm not going back to a crappy webcam.

All these scenarios are possible. I like MagSafe very much. Hopefully Apple will not remove it completely. I think eventually, Apple will make it available only on iPhone Pro. Foldable and the base variant might not have it in a few years time. Will surely be disappointing if that happens.

I can't count the number of MagSafe mounts I see in cars. Having to fiddle with clamps to attach/detach?

F. The Hell. No.

They might as well go back to the Lightning port. Hell, go all the way back to the 30-pin port if you're in that "nostalgic" mood!

I prefer MagSafe over USB-C for charging. Especially now that charging is 25W on the iPhone 17 line (debuted at 15W on the iPhone 12 line).

Don’t go backwards.

sure, get rid of magsafe for magsafe 2. Tech has had to improve, right?
^ This. But the more I think about it, the more I realise they really should drop the MagSafe brand on the iPhone. It was good while it lasted, but Qi2 and iPhone’s MagSafe “1” are one and the same, and MagSafe 3 is the Mac’s latest standard… If we get a Qi3 standard at some point, what, will it be called “MagSafe 2” on the iPhone? When there are still official, Apple-branded, MagSafe 2 chargers for sale for older pre-USB-C Intel MacBooks? Isn’t that a completely confusing mess when it comes to SKU management and users looking for stuff on their web and physical stores and even some of their non-expert employees? Or even to expert ones, who’ll then have to deal with returns and explain the difference between pogo pins and induction coils to disgruntled customers who just don’t care and want their stuff to work out of the box?

Just keep the dang magnets on the entire lineup, or just on those models where it does make sense (maybe the foldable iPhone will be too thin to accommodate it, sure), and call it Qi-whatever. Heck, maybe that’s what will get the other manufacturers to finally follow their lead in earnest.

"Some random person on the internet says..."

Apple would be foolish to remove wireless charging, but if they do, I'm sure people will simply move to a different platform that has said charging capabilities. I haven't plugged my phone into a cord in 5-6 years, I have a wireless charger on my desk, and two in my Tesla.

It sounds like the wireless charging would still work provided you had a MagSafe case. If so, most users should not be impacted, correct? Most (not all) users have their iPhones in a case and without a MagSafe case, most MagSafe accessories don't do what they are supposed to do effectively, so perhaps this would actually be a plus because it would permit additional internal real estate. MagSafe doesn't go away, it just gets moved to the case where most users are probably already using it anyway.

Does this summary lead to a false conclusion? Am I missing something?

There's been variations in feature parity across all devices for a loooooong time. Not having MagSafe on a specific model of a device does not foretell its doom.

How much energy is being lost per phone due to wireless charging? 0.005 kW/h? More? Less?

Zero percent once the phone is charged, and having wireless chargers around one's world (car, bedroom, etc.) helps to keep the phone charged more frequently than if one had to keep plugging in the phone to a cable ever time! I've got chargers in every room, and love MagSafe!

Ha!! I tend to agree with him...

Based on the article-spam coming out of MR lately, I'm thinking it must be a revenue issue that they are trying to prop up. Can't be easy in this world, so my heart goes out to them.

But no way that Apple is taking away my absolutely favourite feature in the last year! Took me way too long to adopt MagSafe and I love !!

For real! I just got this TwelveSouth puck like plug in the wall thing that holds my iPhone on the wall in landscape so it shows the widgets and stuff. So helpful in the kitchen when cooking and want to see some basic stuff like a timer or something.

I'm another one who uses it every single day (and night) and won't buy an iPhone that doesn't have it or at least something equivalent.
