No Dynamic Island?
Same design?
Same processor?

Apple didn’t even try with the iPhone 14. Lol. They said let’s create a BS update so others would want to pay a little extra for the Pro.

And, it worked…more $$ for Apple.

See... when I saw the event live, I thought to myself the introduction of the dynamic island was the focal point in terms of feature. But when the 14 without it was mentioned, I already thought this was gonna be bad news. I think they should have just made 3 models: entry, medium and advanced specs, but all 3 should feature the island because its the heart and soul of the new iOS/phone. I think the lower priced models are made to please the Asian markets, but then taking the most popular color out of that product line is once again another mistake. Making color depend option is deliberately screwing with customer options/choices and that's just stupid. Just like some cars only offer black leather in combination with other certain wood trims on the dashboard.

Shocking! Apple sells us the same phone as last year and people don't go for it. Glad people are not just sheep and they send clear message to Apple that this is not on.
If they didn't have anything this year then they should upgrade just the PRO and leave iPhone 13 as the mid tier. SE, 13, 14 Pro would be for everyone.

What is ridiculous is not that Apple in just a few weeks has already cut 5 production lines of two of its flagship products, but that there are people who, for not to buy that nonsense of iPhone 14, buy the 14 Pro, which is a 14 with a ridiculous solution (Dynamic Island) and with an increased price compared to the already expensive 13 (but not in the USA, where iPhones are given away).
For the same reason there are those who buy an Ultra so as not to buy an 8, which is identical to the 7 but if you have a car accident call the rescue (useful, that only time it happens).

Anyway, everything is fine, go ahead like this at the Apple CDA, huge earnings insulting products.

This hits the nail on the head.

We shouldn't be discussing how Apple are "surprised to not sell many iPhone 14s"...
as they know EXACTLY what they are doing.

Every other year the PRO existed as an upsell to the standard model but only really for those with 'pro style' requirements i.e. photography (as nobody cares about the stainless steel enclosure).

This year....... obviously - the 14 exists in its current form ONLY to push buyers to the pro models.

Until next year when the iPhone 15 Ultra comes with the black box (again), 14 Pros are the way to go. They are mindconditioning this year with the white boxes for all iPhones.

This is why there should only be one iPhone, just like the old days. Every phone they put out should be a "pro". Just make three sizes, mini, regular, plus.

What is wrong with giving consumers choice? Not everyone necessarily wants the features/capabilities of a Pro model. Last year, the top selling iPhones were a mix of Pro and non-Pro (as well as sizes except the mini which didn't make the top seven).

However, Apple aren't stupid are they. Im pretty sure they expect their 14 to not sell well - and they are slyly pushing everyone to the pro models.

If that were true Apple would simply only manufacture and offer an XX ProMax iPhone. No need to invest the additional millions of $ rolling out smaller phones.

Apple isn't stupid and has gobs of past years iPhone sales metrics to draw upon. Some people actually want smaller or less expensive iPhones. Much much better to accommodate them rather than letting them purchase a competitor phone (and related services).

Having smaller phones in the lineup is not some sketchy/nefarious loss-leader scheme to only sell Pro/Max phones. Apple needs smaller/lighter-weight/less-expensive phones as well.

Pretty much the same phone with some mini differences. It isn't surprising people aren't running out to buy the same phone the for the 3rd year in a row.

14 Pro and Pro Max line at least offered some new things like the Dynamic Island and the Always On Display.

Everyone keeps talking about how "the same" the regular 14 is from the 13 and how normal people don't update every year. While that's mostly true, whoever created the dynamic island should get a massive bonus this year.

I suppose it makes sense that many of those first in line will by a Pro model. But I bought 3 regular 14's for my family (previously using iPhone 8 devices). My calculation? They'll last just as long as the 14 Pro, they're less expensive, and there were no critical features of the Pro that were not already available in the 14. And our 8's are getting up there. The 14 provided the motivation to update, and the timing with the release date was more-or-less coincidental.

All the people that think this is normal and predictable, nobody realises that the great majority of people don't update their phone every year or two (and most of them don't care about the specific CPU either)? The iPhone 14 is new and improved for a lot of people with phones from 4-5-6 years ago. That is not very different from last year model is not the reason it's not selling more, or that the Pros are selling more than expected.
It is normal and predictable because the type of people who preorder at launch want the latest and greatest and not some rebranded iPhone 13 from last year.

I went from an 11 to a 14 pro. I traded in my 3 year old phone and verizon gave me 800 toward a new phone. $100 vs $200 broken up over 2 years, or $4 vs $8 a month, was a no brainer. I would bet many people did that math and went with the pro.

Nobody wants the mini, except for a small vocal bunch of enthusiasts.
Mini sold a percentage of products that were useful and enjoyable in the safes of Apple and its executives, you know? More than that unnecessary 14 Plus toilet, it looks like everyone wants it big for compensation but then you have to buy them bling bling (Pro) because big is not enough.

Hypercompensation, nothing else. XD
