Apple needs to stop trying to milk its fanbase - just give us a really decent iPhone 15, not Pro, not Plus, not Mini or anything else - hark back to the days of Steve Jobs - there was just one iPhone (okay already it had differing storage options...)
Market segmentation is essential for achieving maximum market efficiency, where every paying customer is paying the maximum they are willing to pay, and the next customer lost will not be your opportunity cost.

Apple is slowly coming to the realization that:
  • Some people like top-of-the-line Pro phones
  • Some people like cheap phones
A low-end big phone is neither of these.
Make a top-of-the-line Pro phone in a smaller form factor, and I'll be there in a heartbeat.

Apple can’t defy physics. Unless you are willing to forgo battery life and processing power.

They made the same mistake for iPhone 14 (non-pro) as the iPhone 5c - prev-gen specs with prev-gen design and prev-gen processor.

Also, getting rid of the mini model is a bad move. At least give customers some choices! Yes, the minis did have poor sales during the iPhone 12 and 13 eras, so I think they need to try to improve the mini instead of just replacing it. With the poor non-pro iPhone 14 sales (especially the Plus), apparently, the situation is even worse than for the minis.

So, if they want the iPhone 15 non-pro lineup to be a success, I think they should change their strategy:
  1. Use the current-gen processor - at least for the naming for the sake of marketing. It can be a bit less good than the A17 Bionic on the 15 Pros, but at least call it A17 something; and of course, it should be actually better than the A16 with improvements, instead of an A16-like processor with the name of A17. They may even go for the approach of A17X or something for pros and A17 for the non-pros, as they did for the iPads.
  2. Dynamic Island instead of the notch. It's 2023, and the notch should be only for the SE lineup.
  3. At least 90 Hz if they still want to make the Pros stand out. I don't think anyone wants to buy a 60 Hz phone in 2023.
  4. Bring back the mini! And keep the Plus. Make this lineup strong.
With the strategy set up, they can start focusing on is to make an A17 processor that is in between the A16 and the "A17 for the pros" and designing the Dynamic Island that is optimized for the mini's UI.

So you want to stick to the old menu do you...

no, not what I said at all.
But no, I wouldn’t put every variation on the chopping block just because I don’t like that it exists, especially the lower-end products like the Watch and iPhone SEs or the budget iPads.

I don’t get it. I love my 14 Plus, the screen size is just fabulous - it’s great to have so much screen real estate and the Chip is also OP for a 60hz screen without any dynamic island thus being less likely to get any slowdowns with future iOS versions.

For sure my next iPhone is going to be (at least)the same size.

Everyone keeps complaining that the 14 and the 13 are basically the same… But complain that the 14 doesn’t have a mini.
The 13Mini has for the most part very similar specifications to the 14, what would be the point in upgrading it?
What would a 14 mini have at the current 13 mini (which Apple still sells for the exact same price they did on release day) doesn’t?

Should go back to the basic. Enough with segmenting one product into too many variants.

Just iPhone (2023). And iPhone SE (2023) for those budget conscious.
Perfect.
iPhone SE: $429, 4.7 inch screen with home button.
iPhone (2023): $1099, 6.7 inch display
Hmmmmmmm, yep I don’t see any issues with this.
Not at all.
You get 4.7 or 6.7 with a $670 gap between them and you’ll like it.

Apple needs to stop adding "creative or lack thereof" adjectives to their phone names...

Except Apple doesn't seem to have got the memo and instead went with a blatant cash grab selling a big screen iPhone 15 which costs barely more to produce for an extra $100. Fortunately people have seen through it opting either to the regular 15 or the 15 Pro.

I feel the mini should really have a mini price and should replace the SE. It doesn't need the very latest processors and cameras but should offer a solid iPhone experience in a small, affordable package.
Agree wish they would do the next SE as Mini body with Touch on power at a reasonable price

I'm on an annual upgrade plan with Verizon, and I didn't even bother this year. Figure out that stupid notch, and my goodness, get to USB-C. My iPad is C, my Watch Ultra is C, my iMac is C, my Apple dual-charger is C. C a picture Apple?

Surely they already know which iPhone 15 models will be manufactured? Isn't this more about how they will be marketed?

So what’s the bottom line here, pro model line pricing or pro model plus sized pricing? are they concerned no one is buying the pro bigger models as Or just the plus?

I would like to see the actual numbers for the 14 plus sales. Everyone is all "bring back the mini", but (i may be mistaken), i thought i remember reading something to the effect of the 13 mini only accounted for something like 3% of total iPhone sales. If that indeed is the case, no one bought the mini and no one is buying the plus. Just release a Pro and Pro but bigger.

The Plus is too huge and too expensive. I love my 13 Mini. I do wish they put more pro features in the smaller models.

Apple said they are going to stop producing in China which is the main issue. (remains to be seen) Covid has hit China often enough to slow sales down. Not only that, Citizens of China are fed up with their Govt. with Covid crackdowns, and Apple banned the airdrop from Chinese citizens to prevent them from communicating with themselves and the outside world. Perhaps Apple are the Communists themselves.

BRING THE MINI BACK, COWARDS ❤️❤️❤️

Seriously, I went from 14 Pro Max, to 14 regular, then back to the 13 Mini. For which I bought AppleCare for – for the first time in at least a decade if not more. I’m planning to stick it out for as long as possible. The weight and size is so perfect, even with big hands.

The lineup is too complicated. They should offer three models -- low-end, mid-range, and high-end.
I would change it to: small size (mini), mid size (regular), big size (plus).

All should be high-end with as close specs as possible, then let customers decide on size. If you want a bigger screen, you can pay more and get a Plus model.

I don't like your text formatting! Until then, you're not in charge of writing the menu!

After I got my iPhone 1, I would upgrade to the next version when it came out. Eventually, I would upgrade at the introduction of every other model. Now, I'm still on my iPhone 12 Pro. With every iPhone roll out, we get diminishing returns. The new features don't justify getting a new phone. At this point, I feel like I'm waiting for my 12's battery or external speakers to die.
Agreed. I’m still on an 11 Pro and decided to save a thousand bucks this year and just replace my battery instead of upgrading. At this point I may skip the 15 too.

I suspect it's too late in the development cycle for much to change with the iPhone 15 lineup (much how the 13 Mini was still released despite disappointing sales of the 12 Mini), however if 14 Plus sales are even worse than the 12 Mini was they may end up cancelling the 15 Plus altogether and just releasing the 15, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, with more of a changeup coming with the 16 series.

What do you think about this lineup trend for all their products?

Air, Pro, Ultra —> only difference between them size of screen and battery and of the weight of the device.

Brilliant! Using that same line-up — and nomenclature — across all its product lines, as you've outlined, would be a smart move for Apple.

It would bring clarity, similarity, consumer friendliness, and high quality no matter which product someone bought.
