Apple should consider bringing back the iPhone Mini with better battery life, camera, and so on. Call it the iPhone Pro Mini.

Also, the non-pro iPhones should strictly be reserved for the Apple event in the Spring.

Come on iPhone 15 Pro Mini, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

It was extremely dumb of Apple to get rid of the mini from the line-up and replace it with a giant phablet no one wants.

I hope it's selling worse than the Mini so they bring it back. I won't be buying a new iphone until they make the mini again

I think they should bring back the mini - have 3 sizes - and have the same cameras and processor in each. People that I know choose their phone based on how they physically hold it, how large or small the screen is. The speed of the processor is not as important to them. They don't see any difference. It's all about the size.

Bring back the iPhone mini and stop calling it mini and make it cheaper.

Bring back the mini…

I really, really hope it sells even worse than the mini. Maybe we'll get a mini for a reasonable price then.

With the economy stagnating for at keast 2023, the "middle class" will probably not want to afford a premium phone for a premium price. While most people who are still able and willing to buy a pro will probably still do that.

Except Apple doesn't seem to have got the memo and instead went with a blatant cash grab selling a big screen iPhone 15 which costs barely more to produce for an extra $100. Fortunately people have seen through it opting either to the regular 15 or the 15 Pro.

I feel the mini should really have a mini price and should replace the SE. It doesn't need the very latest processors and cameras but should offer a solid iPhone experience in a small, affordable package.

The regular 14 models should have had the Dynamic Island and Promotion and AOD. The still camera and video improvements should have been for the Pro models.

There is nothing “pro” about Dynamic Island or Promotion and AOD even though “pro” is in the name.

iPhone Air - $799
Light, portable, add a unique feature.
iPhone - $829
The ideal iPhone for everyone.
iPhone Pro $999
The best high-tech value.
iPhone Ultra - $1199
Cutting-edge features.

Maybe even add back an iPhone 14 Pro Max at $1099, but that’s a mouthful compared to the above. A 5.4” iPhone Pro could be intriguing, but would similarly make the lineup too convoluted.
See, that is part of the problem right there. You have a $400 gap between the lowest and the best. That's way too many choices and people start asking themselves if they are cheating themselves or will they have buyers remorse if they went with the phone they wanted but didn't buy the best.

What people see when you price these products too close together is marketing up sell. When the up sell hits me is when I bail out from buying anything. When you sell a simplified lineup the customer buys what they want and doesn't feel cheated like they are missing out on something better. That is the way it used to be with Apple's lineup. Now they are selling 2-3 past generations of stock just to try and hit every potential customer.

The biggest issue isn’t the $400 price difference, it’s that people who think they want they best phone also don’t particularly want the largest phone.

If Apple is apparently pulling a Samsung and throwing all the spaghetti at the wall, trying a Mini Pro is the obvious next choice. See how many of those Pro Max people actually prefer something smaller.

Problem is, that camera bump. Who actually wants an iPad sized phone in their pocket that is also a tritesticle

This thread reminds me of the classic 'Bad Idea Jeans' SNL skit from back in the day. All the things Apple shouldn't do are constantly proposed by fellow members 🤦‍♂️.

The Plus is simply too close in price to the Pro Max. It's that simple. That $200 difference isn't big enough if you use a payment plan over a long period of time.

I think the iPhone 15 should start at $700. The Plus at $800. The Pro at $1,000. The Pro Max at $1,100.

Too many options (same goes with the iPad).

The first thing Jobs did when he came back in 1997 was simplify the lineup as there were so many different products and models; they need to do that again.

This, exactly.

Apple has fallen into a mind boggling complexity of naming conventions for their products. iPhone 14 Plus (two suffixes). iPhone 14 Pro Max, that’s THREE suffixes where Max means exactly the same as Plus. It’s just the bigger version of that iPhone.

Drop all those suffixes and make the iPhones different enough and the price gap large enough that the decision is meaningful.

We don’t call it MacBook 5 Pro Max though that lineup has become too complex in its naming too — but that’s another discussion. iPads don’t have numbers or sizes in the name either with the exception of the mini which is an entirely separate iPad line like the Pro is to the regular iPad. Again, the iPad lineup complexity is yet another debate.

Call it iPhone and iPhone Pro, each available in 2 sizes which don’t need names. That’s the lineup. Choose between Good and better and pick your screen size. That’s it.

Each year, they get updated with slightly new colours visually designating their shiny newness at a glance in addition to the technical advancements inside. No need to put it in the name. People can refer to them by the year if it needs to be stated: This is the 2023 iPhone Pro.

Tim Cook is becoming another Sculley. The company may be safe now but it took years for post Jobs Apple to forget its origins and fall victim to corporatization of the company.

I've been listening to Stephen King's 11.22.63 lately, so I may be a little hazy on dates . . . it's still December of 2022, correct?

Weren't the 14's just recently released?!?

I'll be using this mini (or backups) until they are obsolete, rather than settle for Teh Gimp in a mini suit.

*sigh* AAPL has taken to following Ray Kroc, when they should have followed Dick and Mac McDonald's precedent.

I think the whole point of the Mini being introduced was to raise the price of the regular iPhone 12 by $100 but still being able to say iPhone 12 starts at $699 because that's such a nasty but very Apple thing to do. I don't think they ever intended for it to sell well. Then when they discontinued it so they can add a more expensive option and keep the regular iPhone with that $100 on top and what the plan was all about from the start didn't work - now it's a problem.

I agree that $699 is the starting price that makes sense, both compared to everything else on the market and Apple's own offerings. Which is why most people I know who are buying iPhones are getting the regular 13 currently and I would've done the same had I not gotten it last year. The 14 being too similar to the 13 also really helps with this but it's not the only reason people are not flocking to it. But then, having a $200 gap between the regular and the Pro is a big jump and needs to be justified with something major for the Pro and they can't seem to do that unless it's through gimping the regular to the point where it's once again unattractive

If it's true and they made the mini iPhones great! but if its another KUO ........here we go again..............and his bs. But remember soon apple will release a foldable iPhone. 16 series. hence if they do change any happen then. there be a standard iPhone as of now and a foldable type.

Apples product lines are getting convoluted just like they were before they brought Steve Jobs back. You would think they would have learned their lesson.

I’m guilty of the 24 month 0% payment plan

iPhone 14 Plus 256GB with AppleCare Theft and Loss - £53.66 a month/24

iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB with AppleCare Theft and Loss - £64.91 a month/24

I’ll pick the Pro Max (and did!) every time for the extra £11.25 a month thank you

I suspect in years to come the Pro Max will have a higher resale / trade in advantage over the Plus too

I tend to agree that simplification might be better. But with the volume that Apple does it becomes more difficult.

I'd selfishly like an iPhone Air that improves upon iPhone Mini, but then forgoing a traditional iPhone becomes the best option for offering three models.

iPhone Air, iPhone Pro, iPhone Ultra.

It seems silly not to offer an iPhone, doesn't it?

Then again it also seems silly and potentially confusing to offer so many different iPhone models.

I still feel the Mini felt the wrath of COVID-19. The 12 and 13 Mini came out during the start & peak lockdown so many people were opting for bigger iPhones for consumption purposes. With the economy on the downturn as well, having an iPad wasn’t a good alternate financially either so people wanted one big device to rule them all.

Let’s be real though. Unless you have so much downtime at work or don’t have a media consumption device at home it makes very little sense to use a huge phone for calls, text, and other random apps. The 6.1” is plenty big, the 6.7” is just inconvenient. I have a full sized suv and the 6.7 barely fits in a cup holder…that’s ridiculous.

The two things I want with the mini to get me to purchase it are a telephoto lens (don't need a wide lens) and usb-c with a faster transfer rate. Heck even just a mini with a telephoto lens would probably be enough... 😥

I'm reading through some of the comment section and people seem to gloss over the fact they released 14 and 14 Plus with LAST GENERATION chip. And then try to market it as this brand new iPhone (with different colors)... I'm still baffled by it.

Apple were better off releasing only the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max then call it a day! I mention this as soon as they announced the 14 and 14 Plus...
