Why not simplify the lineup, with just two models - a "normal" and a Pro?
This. I do like the mini and if I were in the market for a new phone I’d get a 13 mini right now.

But given something like the 14 lineup, if I wanted something better than the standard 14, I would not get the plus but go for the pro instead.
The slightly overlapping products in the lineup need to stop imo.

And by making the IPhone 15 Ultra that will affect the 6.1 Pro models sales making it like a IPhone 14 plus. People want the best phone. Before multiple models people just bought last years IPhone. Last years Pros are actually better than the standard models I think they need to ditch the SE and offer a good standard iPhone which gets updated every two years. Then the Pro phones are the main event at the September conference. Waste of time apple selling last years tech under a new name.

Remember the times when this was our lineup for the "iPhone".

Simpler times! Less is more.

Old optimized technology and more expensive. What did they expect was gonna happen? Especially in a recession where budgets are tight. They went too far and they know it, sorry, but this is not 2017. What they need to do is reintroduce the 5.8 inch screen, make it have all the latest technology: A17, Dynamic island, 120 Hz screen, leave the finish and maybe extra RAM for the Pro's. Drop the starting price down to 599. Not too big, not too small and affordable enough.

The question is are you going to upgrade to a new iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max/Ultra in 2023?
Probably not? They would have to reveal so seriously enticing features/upgrades to get me to get a 15pro. The 14pro has everything I want/need.

That is to say until they reveal the next big “gotta have it” feature 🤣

My only critique of the 14pro is the weight. I appreciate the size very much, after having the 11 and the mini and experiencing both large and small phones.

If your oft-repeated rumor of titanium chassis is a thing, that would be pretty enticing, and perhaps a removal of the constant dynamic island dot perhaps…. But honestly, I’m not sure there’s anything to get me to buy 15pro since I’m locked into Verizon for three years getting bill credits, and a carrier deal is likely the only way I could swing a new phone.

Plus, thinking long term, if I wait two or three years, the 16 or 17 pro would be an absolute beast and very much worth getting a new phone.

Last thought: too many people complain about the “new phone not worth it” when compared to last year, and it does make sense we’re plateauing. The watch does it, and I’m very happy with my 6 still and it’s two years old.

*edit: oops lied… ha… if they released a mini pro that successfully mitigated heat, I would strongly consider that.

It was extremely dumb of Apple to get rid of the mini from the line-up and replace it was a giant phablet no one wants.

Obviously that’s why it sold so well and was kept…

The only people that care about the Mini are echo chamber fanboys that think their opinions have impact on the balance sheet.

Galaxy S10e - Dead.
iPhone Mini - Dead.

People use their phones as media devices at the end of the day and a larger screen assists with that.

Your need to wear skinny jeans doesn’t trump Apple’s commitment to its shareholders.

“Not everyone wants a big phone”….funny the second best selling phone in 2021 was the Pro Max. Can someone show me where the Mini is on this chart?

Apple, you should be concerned

You keep making things that are too expensive, mis-targeted and/or also completely omitting some of us entirely and then often poorly execute on key details, such as software quality.

(iMac 27, Updated Mac mini, Mini phone & iPad buyers who also want new/updated models come to mind)

So, they’re supposed to widen the performance and feature gap between the regular and pro models and also introduce a more advanced ultra model? Are they hiding some secret “ultra” features or going to cripple the regular model?
Cripple the regular model of course. 14 is a step in this direction. Apple Watch 8 is a blatant example.

I hope it's selling worse than the Mini so they bring it back. I won't be buying a new iphone until they make the mini again
Bring back the S-updates, not every revision needs the next number.

They only have to release a new Mini once in a while. The Mini-folks are less than the big phone people.
Just got my Mini 13, so I am fine awhile. Hope they release Mini ~16-18 depending on 1st if and then what upgrades it comes with.
Apple, care about your Mini lovers, as we care about you ♥️

Soon we are at iPhone 33, will sound hilarious. Better system Apple.
Mac’s don’t get numbers, but have their release years?!

Bring back the S-updates, not every revision needs the next number.
That will literally hurt sales.

The time of big advancements is behind us, and Apple is trying to increase profit in any way they can.

They don’t care if the 14 and 14 plus don’t sell, they are bad value on purpose. The question is, do more people go for the pro model now?

Guess which one had higher profit margins?

Maybe the numbers show a lot of potential customers not upgrading at all. That might be worrying.

Apple is reportedly "seriously" concerned over the sales performance of the iPhone 14 Plus, the 6.7-inch non-Pro variant of the iPhone 14 lineup. As a result, it is considering ways to restrategize its iPhone lineup for next year.

iphone-14-lineup.jpg

The iPhone 14 Plus is the newest addition to the iPhone lineup and replaces the 5.4-inch mini iPhone. The iPhone 14 Plus features the same design, cameras, and performance as the standard iPhone 14 but with a larger display and battery. According to a post by yeux1122 on Naver, who has shared both accurate and inaccurate information in the past, Apple is thinking of ways to reevaluate how it treats pro and non-pro iPhones for the iPhone 15.

The post outlines two possible strategies reportedly under consideration at Apple, with the first being to further differentiate the pro and non-pro iPhones, which was previously rumored by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Secondly, Apple is considering reducing the price of the Plus model of the lineup, which starts at $899, according to the post, which cites supply chain and industry sources. A price reduction of the Plus model means the standard ‌iPhone‌, which starts at $799, could also see a price decrease unless Apple wants to shrink the pricing gap between the two models.

In the last few years, Apple has shifted and reevaluated its iPhone lineup a few times. Starting with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple began offering small and large-sized iPhones before branching out and offering four models, two standard and two high-end models, with different materials, colors, and camera features. Starting with the iPhone 13 Pro, for example, Apple began to offer the same camera systems on the 6.1-inch Pro and 6.7-inch Pro Max model, unlike in previous years where more advanced camera features were reserved for only the largest iPhone.

With the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro, Apple chose to offer two standard and two high-end models with matching sizes: two 6.1-inch models and two 6.7-inch models. Both the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature the same cameras and designs, the only difference being a physically bigger battery in the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The iPhone 15 is still a year away, so it's too early to know what strategy Apple will use. In one sign, however, that it's looking to unify the entire lineup, Dynamic Island is expected to come to all iPhone 15 models. I suspect the iPhone 14 isn't doing much better, both are simply too expensive compared to the pro's, I suspect Apple will hike the price of the Pro's instead of reducing the price of the 14's 😏

Back to the basics, what Steve Jobs told Nike CEO. Get rid of low quality s* products. Even though Apple products are great there is a line where prices are out of proportion, even for Apple.

This is like the XX time they re-strategize their line up in a couple of years.

This is what you get hiring new graduates focussing on numbers instead of the product, quality and experience.

How about a 3 iPhone lineup again. Get rid of the SE, and just have the mini, regular, and plus. Give all 3 the 48mp camera and 120hz display. I see no reason the Se, 12, 13 mini, 13, 14, 14 plus need to exist. It should just be the 14 mini, 14, and 14 plus. This will never happen of course because that would defeat Apple’s current marketing where they price everything close together and always push you towards the next model up. It’s tacky and not at all Apple-like. Anyone around before the 11 models came out knows what I’m talking about. Even back in like 2012 there were 3 simple choices. The 4/4s/5. Then they did the Se/6s/6s+ and that was a great lineup. An iPhone for everyone, with 3 distinctive sizes, and a good balance between the 3. All had the same processor, same main camera, same color options. You simply chose if you wanted a small phone, a medium size phone, or a large phone. It would be nice to see Apple return to this kind of lineup as I believe it was the best in terms of not just trying to upsell you to the next model up for no reason. If you didn’t want a huge phone there were 2 equally as good options, and if you wanted a huge phone, you could get one, but it wasn’t also priced so much higher because of extra features. It did all the same things the tiny Se did.

This is a friendly reminder that Apple still sells phones with 60 hz screen in 2022/2023. Forget flagships, low end and mid range Android phones have been coming out with 120hz screen for many years now. I love Apple products but I totally understand why some people call Apple customers sheep, lol!

Too many options (same goes with the iPad).

The first thing Jobs did when he came back in 1997 was simplify the lineup as there were so many different products and models; they need to do that again.
Yes. “Which one do I tell my friends to buy?” etc.

I’m convinced that if they replaced the SE (4.7”) with the mini form factor (5.4”) at a reasonable price, it’d sell so well that it would eat away at higher-end iPhone sales.

Apple needs to relearn the iPod Mini to iPod nano lessons

Either kill your own "best" (with something equal or better), or someone/something else will do it for you

Yup. Purposefully hold back 'features' to upsell. It's BS.
